So it never got better than this then?
So it never got better than this then?
Nope. Was/is the pinnacle of anime.

Man anime must suck if the pinnacle of it is a mediocre adaptation of something great whose only redeeming value is its animation.
>Man anime must suck
yep.
>Man anime must suck
first time?
Yes, but we got it close.
>something great
The Akira manga wasn't even good either in my opinion, felt like a bunch of pretty pointless fights and chases and explosions.
>all the stuff not included in the anime was pointless
Every time.
I'm not defending the anime - it's been so long I can't even remember what was or wasn't in the anime - I'm just shitting on the manga separately.
How many people who say this actually read the manga?
your critique is horribly explained, of you have something useful to say you certainly choose not to say it
bullshit. yeah the art and animation was good, but the story was retarded and convoluted
Considering the cost and effort put into this. You could argue this was tip of the top on a mix between animation & story. There were other good stuff that objectively can be up there with Akira (Not going to put names, there is always going to be a contrarian moron).
Also consider that putting all of the manga material would end up in a pretty inferior anime series in terms of animation quality.
> the story was retarded and convoluted
Every story is like that, even our lives if you were to put it into paper.
This
Better than what?
>Man anime must suck
Welcome to Yea Forums. Enjoy your stay.
>Man anime must suck
where's the lie?
Otomo wanted to make Neo Tokyo feel like a real city, but he went overboard with the set pieces in the manga. The anime is much more consise and appealing. Not to mention it's a self contained story completely independant of the manga.
>Considering the cost and effort put into this
Sometimes I wonder if you people are merely ignorant or if you're genuinely retarded. Akira cost a measly 1.1bn Yen to make. Given how Japans inflation has been bordering 0 for the past 30 years, Ponyo was more than 3 times and Kaguya 5 times as expensive. There have been a dozen films with more "effort" and "money" put into them. The difference between those films and Akira is that the latter is a culmination of Japans greatest animation talents, with Takashi Nakamura spearheading his group of standout animators who have dominated the industry ever since.
