It's not entirely clear why or how Riku and Schwi fell in love; it had to be rushed because of running time; T.v. series often have the opposite problem that the progression is too slow but the viewer never really sees Riku and Schwi fall in love; he is merely informed that it happened at some point and is supposed to accept it.

And the entire plot about "no longer killing and it works with no explanation given" was just bad. Too many unexplained weird things that "just happen".
