Fuck it, Lupin thread

I recently started this huge ass Lupin marathon, where i watch everything from the series, all jackets and movies. So far it has been a good ass time, but boi are these english subs rough. Would love to find something better, but ill probably tough it out
What are some of your fave moments in the series?

Lupin's great from what I've seen. Barely started Red Jacket though, since I tend to enjoy episodic stuff more when it's live-action.
Some of my fave episodes of Lupin were from Green Jacket, including the particular episodes where Lupin's in jail and stays here for a year or so, the one where Lupin is on a runaway train with a girl he saved from some guy (very ghibli-esque style on the girl, so it was defs a Miyazaki episode), and the clock tower in the snow mountain.
What's some of your fave eps OP?
Also, lads, is the Goemon/Jigen/Fujiko movies any good? Looks to me like they're in the style of the Fujiko show but I'm not too sure I want that kind of drama from a Lupin thing right now.

OP here, one my fave episodes is actually from green jacket too.
Its that one where he challanges this detective that was once his dads rival i think, and for his getaway, since the showdown was treated as this big festival, lupin disguised the entire crowd as himself. And then when they thought they caught the real one, it was revealed that it someguy disguised as the detective himself, which then the crowd itself procedes to switch the lupin costume with the detective one.
That moment gave me a hearty chuckle. I pretty much lost it at that point.

Here is a better screenshot fren I took the same one

Man, I vaguely remember this, remember enjoying it as well. I need to rewatch Green Jacket sometime. Despite how slow it was at first, I got into over time, and found jt was really solidly done. It still holds up rather well for something from the 70s (comparing it to Uchuu Senkan Yamato from 3 years later, which I couldn't get through due to how slow it was).
What part of the franchise are you on now though?

Thanks, i very much apreciate it

Just about to reach the halfway point of pink jacket. Again, eng subs are rough, but ill tough it out. After pink jacket, ill start working on watchin the movies

Goemon's introduction in Green Jacket is a good episode.

Tons of great episodes in Red Jacket. One of my favorites is where the gang goes to some country in the Pyrenees and an assassin is after Jigen. Lupin levels the playing field by disassembling Jigen's gun. And pretty much every Jigen episode is great.

Attached: smiling_rupan.png (301x536, 276K)

Jigen episodes are fantastic. They are often pretty fuckin dark too, they were some heavy stuff in there. Remember that time jigen took that bullet out of some chicks leg? That shit was raw

did you also watch the live action?

Attached: l3liveposter.jpg (760x427, 121K)

After pink jacket, ill start watching the movies. Im watching the movies in release order too, so im gonna take a while to get there

watch castle of cagliostro. was the first lupin movie i ever watched, and has by far the best story of any of them. i heard miyazaki hayao was part of the team for it

That one episode where zenigata easily defeats lupin and his team, only to ask them for help

That episode was fuckin awesome, i loved it. Zenigata is fuckin great

i'm curious where are you from?

Will watch it for sure, cant wait for to get to it, once i finish pink jacket

Australia

OP, Im from Portugal

sounds good, keep in mind that for the movies it doesnt matter what order u watch any of them in

hmmmm...

Ive seen the trailers for this, it looks so good. Why does it look so good?

Say, where would you find a good place to watch lupin stuff, with good eng subs? Those crunchyroll subs are really not good

Like Gantz:O, it's not trying to do that "emulate 2D animation in 3D" that so many 3D CGI anime try to do, instead making it look cartoony and stylized while still being designed according to 3D principles.
All in all, looks fucking great. Can't wait for it to be released.
As other user mentioned cagliostro, unless you've already seen it, check that movie out first when delving into the movies. I'd recommend, after that, the Mystery of Mamo. Very... interesting (?) direction that one took for a Lupin thing, which I guess makes sense since the director for it was some dude who directed avant-garde porn or something (though the movie itself isn't sexualized or weird, but maybe my memory isn't recalling it as much).

I just wish someone will translate the manga.

I remember losing my sides when I first saw that episode. Lupin's just so over-the-top sometimes.

Lupin, he's a nice man

But hes cool

>top 10 anime betrayals

OP here, can we just talk about how SUPERHERO is the hypest shit?
Whenever you hear that play, you just know Lupin just stole some shit and got away with it while bamboozling everyone.
Easily my favourite song, although sexy adventure is really growing on me. Specially with the opening that comes with it, that visual of Lupin holding the city in his top hat with hands is great.
Whats your fave song in lupin?

here's a quest for you guys, how many episodes of the lupin series features women dancers?

Attached: bandicam_2018-06-01_00-11-57-864.jpg (1703x955, 343K)

Hey was Jesus having a hot sister an actual thing in Japanese Christianity? I know they got some weird beliefs, or was that all just made up for the show?

Attached: lupin the third_archeology find.jpg (640x464, 26K)

Probably made for the show
"Hey look, Lupin is such a chad, even Jesus sister wants his dick, and shes too pure for that shit"

Did you even see the episode? She was a cold hearted violent vampire bitch.

Any fans of part 4/5?
Found out 5 is on Prime Video in japonese

Oh yeah you right shit. Im sorry
Been a while since that ep. Red jacket took me a long fuckin while to finish it

How was part IV, bros? I haven't seen anything since Jigen's Gravestone.

Why couldn't the main series get cool villains like Yael and Hawk? All we got was Mamo.

Attached: mamo blown away.png (854x478, 600K)

You know that teaser at the end? Doesn't go anywhere, fucking memory hole'd. Other then that pretty good, the Daniel Craig like character is cool, but the main villain in the second half is bizarre and makes me wonder what combination of narcotics the writer was on.

There is some town in Japan where they claim the brother of Jesus lived, I think. Or maybe it was Jesus himself.

OP here. Im really glad, you guys came to the thread. I really wanted to share thoughts with other lupin fans, since im going thru the series for the first time. I hope you are having a good day.

Thanks for making it.

That episode from green jacket where Lupin spends a year in jail then escapes on the day of his execution to get back at Zenigata for humiliating him is pretty great, though I always like prison escape episodes.

Attached: a crossover I wish happened.jpg (417x313, 29K)

OP here, imagine if there was a crossover game between Lupin III and ace attourney.
Gumshoe and Zenigata working together would be the hypest shit.

So far, I've only seen Castle of Cagliostro and Part V, but I quite liked both despite not really knowing about the characters going in. I know I probably went out of order. What should I watch next?

Based op lupin 4 ever

A bump for more lupin

Either start from part I or watch the Koike movies if you don't mind gritty Lupin

>Do Italian zoomers watch parts IV and V?
I wouldn't know but we still get new stuff broadcasted shortly after they come out, I remember watching the Fujiko serie on national TV, uncensored, around midnight.
Boomers are a still a force to be reckoned with though, when Part IV aired there was a petition to change the OP because it was sung by locally famous rapper rather than by the guy who sang the old ones.

The story goes the one who died on the cross was Jesus's twin and the real one went to Japan. Yeah this is a thing. Gets brought up in Steel Ball Run off the top of my head.

>Literally spends the year screaming that he isn't Lupin
>Escapes by swapping himself with a guard who is wearing a Lupin mask.
>The guard almost gets killed because no one believes that he is not Lupin

Just watched the movie about Nostradamus, and hot damn was that some quality content. Is Red Jacket best era of lupin?

Reminder.
I need to update the chart and add Goodbye Partner and Fujiko's Lie.

I'm going through Red Jacket currently, after that I have Pink Jacket left and then I'll literally have watched all of the animated material.

>Also, lads, is the Goemon/Jigen/Fujiko movies any good? Looks to me like they're in the style of the Fujiko show but I'm not too sure I want that kind of drama from a Lupin thing right now.
They are in the style of the Fujiko show in a sense that the animation is similar and there's a certain kind of "edginess" and "coolness" to it. Jigen's movie is like a pretty solid anime two parter but it's lacking the payoff in the story (for now), Goemon's movie is the weakest but it's worth watching for the interesting antagonist (even if he isn't elaborated upon) and the battle near the end. Fujiko's movie is extremely good and it's beginning to elaborate on the story (it ties all of the three movies together), so it's worth watching the previous two movies because of that. It also has amazing fight scenes and the movie explores Fujiko's usage of her sex appeal way better than "The Woman Called Fujiko Mine".

Attached: ranking.jpg (707x9994, 2.04M)

>doesn't go anywhere, fucking memory hole'd
Based on Fujiko's Lie, which has the villains from the previous two specials appearing, my guess is there's going to be a pay-off for the teaser in the upcoming movies. I'm guessing they will be a Zenigata and then finally a Lupin one.

Mate, Miyazaki directed it and it's by far the best thing he's done

>and has by far the best story of any of them
So you don't like Lupin, got that.

It doesn't have the best story but it has the best aesthetics of any Lupin by far. I'm not that user, by the way.

you need to find an italian

>when Part IV aired there was a petition to change the OP because it was sung by locally famous rapper
who is it?

There is no point in working on the shitty reversed and censored scans, if you had your hands on the new faithful italian release I'm sure pastas would help translate, me included.

i'm still mad we dont have yet a french version

Jigen looks really weird.

The whole story sounds very Jojo.

he looks fine to me

I don't trust this list, fuma conspiracy is really boring.

looks too young and soft and pathetic weird little beard

Moreno

He looks like an atheist from the 2000s

sounds cool but more fitting for the ending credit personally

is this italian fan made good or bad?
youtube.com/watch?v=5f3KqEkcpC0

Why is Lupin so popular in Italy?

Italian anime boomers treat the people who dubbed and sang the ops as demigods, this was bound to happen regardless of who it was that tried to substitute Giorgio Vanni. That being said I do think Moreno did a shitty job, the lyrics are unironically a meme and I'm not into rap.

There are so many Lupin specials that are impossible to find, I've yet to watch Stolen Lupin or Return the Treasure since I can't find them anywere.

did you search on nyaa?

There's a god tier collection that was uploaded on nyaa (I think it was uploaded last year), it contains pretty much all of the specials.

Before the year 2000 Italy had a great exposure to anime, resulting in a couple of generations growing up on them, among those there was Lupin.
As for why is he so loved, can you figure why a womanizer thief that looks like a monkey, treats policemen like a joke and cares about his friends would be popular here?

I would have imagined it to be more popular in France but I think they never got it due to copyright issues.

If it can make you feel any better I'm a bit envious of today manga and anime status in France today.

what issues? the use of the name "Lupin"?

Yes, Lupin is/was called Edgar there because of those.

I think the name Arsene Lupin is copyrighted or at least it still was in the 70s but I think it expired now. That's why they always wrote it RUPAN.

but they use it for the BD

Attached: 7516.jpg (400x324, 42K)

Found it. Sucks that it's around 50gb when I only need two files but whatever, I'll give it a try. Thanks anons.

This is a masterpiece.
I unexpectedly heard the notes of this song one night of a few weeks ago from a house near mine.

His beard seems too short.

sounds so Parisian

what do you think of the french op
youtube.com/watch?v=-_i7fms0rX8

Sounds pretty comfy

>when I only need two files
You can choose which files to download specifically, although it won't hurt to get the whole collection, I hope you don't plan on watching just two specials.

>Un gentleman, un Milord
>Est reparti dans l'ombre
>A l'autre bout du monde
Pretty cool, I like the beat

>You can choose which files to download specifically
I had no idea you could do that
>I hope you don't plan on watching just two specials.
I've already watched everything else in the collection before

Based pink jacket filtering plebs again and again.

sad he made the chinese flat

it's realistic

>fuma conspiracy
>boring
Certified shit taste
Never post about Lupin again

Make me.

>shitty repetitive ten minute motorcycle chase scene
>disjointed scenes
>shit tier humour most of the time
The only good stuff Babylon has is a few scenes, for example those with Zenigata and the girls (ironically you posted one of those).

Sorry, but you called it "shit animation style", you aren't entitled to an opinion. Pink jacket loose, expressive animation is at its peak in this movie.

>the animation is unique so it must be good!
How to easily spot a pseud
Just because something is different it doesn't mean it's good

Who are you quoting?
Frankly, just don't try to make a chart that wants to be informative to neophytes if you outright hate the style of one of the major entries of the series.

>Who are you quoting
Nice /jp/ meme, the use of meme arrows hasn't been the same for many years, get on with the times or get out
I haven't watched Pink Jacket yet, the "shitty animation" comment isn't shitting on the series itself because the story can be still good even if the animation isn't good. Babylon is bad because of how disjointed it is and how many terrible scenes there are (story-wise, not animation-wise, just remember the motorcycle scene at the beginning which just drags on and on and on to the point that it really makes you wonder how greenlit that shit).
>if you outright hate the style of one of the major entries of the series
The majority hate Pink Jacket's animation style which is understandable since it's really ugly. You're in the minority here. Just because something is unique doesn't mean it's automatically good, pseud. There's a reason why people want to pretend Pink Jacket doesn't exist. Check out the comments of the fans who are talking about their favorite episodes - what are the chances you'll find even three of the episodes from the Pink Jacket? Furthermore, what are the chances of finding someone who genuinely thinks Pink Jacket is the best series, trumping Parts 1, 2, 4 and 5?
If you think the style is good, that's fine, but the facts still stand.

>makes a chart without even having seen the entire third series
Honestly embarassing. But if you want to know about the greatness of pink jacket's animation, Anipages is more informative than I could possibly be:
pelleas.net/aniTOP/index.php/lupin-iii-part-3

Chill, it's a chart about specials and not the series themselves. I've got around 40 episodes of part 2 left, after that I'll see part 3 and finish with all the animated content. I know about that article, I'll read it once I've seen the series. Already read most of his part 2 article, it's pretty good.

Pretty good even if it has an underwhelming middle. A couple of really fucking great episodes and a satisfiying finale.
Problem is that the original better quality source is the Italian version and the Japanese version you can find around is still the TV one.

>it has an underwhelming middle. A couple of really fucking great episodes and a satisfiying finale.
For me it's exactly the opposite

It's good, but the quality and entertainment value of the pisodes varies a lot. I think part V is when they figured out how to do episodic shenanigans in a style that fits the current state of anime.

Just don't forget the original live action Lupin.

Whoever you are I fucking love you, hahahahaha. What a stupid idea that would honestly be really fucking cool if it happened.

I'm surprised I haven't seen any crossover art or anything, they seem like a weird series to have a crossover with. I mean hell, you could do an easy case of just Lupin is accused of something, Phoenix defends and Zenigata and Gumshoe both believe it's him only for you to prove him wrong and just as he's about to be set free he fucking escapes in Lupin fashion and it turns out it really fucking WAS HIM behind all that shit.

Basically 2-4 but with a comedic outlook on it all. Hell, having Jigen and Goemon helping you out by assisting the investigation would be cool, just have to have some bullshit that they can't free Lupin for some reason. Fujiko would also be a witness to this shit, possibly being a twofaced bitch as always and basically testifying against Lupin.

Attached: mpv-shot0139.jpg (853x480, 56K)

Recently went though all of Lupin this summer and I loved it. Didn't watch any of the movies since I wanted to get all the parts out of the way, but I'll probably give the movies a shot soon enough.

Part 1 and 2 were great, 2 was a bit too long for my liking and had a few hit and miss episodes. I didn't like 3 that much but I feel I may have been too harsh on it, it had a few great episodes though. Part 4 and 5 were really fantastic and I loved how the last episodes of Part 5 brought back old characters from previous series to see Lupin die, hell the entire premise was great, seeing Goemon stab Lupin and regret it after the fact was actually pretty heartbreaking since it didn't seem like a trick this time around. I do wish they kept Lupin in his state for a whole episode though, just to see how Goemon, Jigen and Fujiko would deal with it.

>So far it has been a good ass time, but boi are these english subs rough. Would love to find something better, but ill probably tough it out
>What are some of your fave moments in the series?
I'm a sucker for Zenigata and Jigen episodes so a lot of those were perfect. I loved seeing Zenigata work with Lupin as well, so all of those episodes for sure.

If I was being specific I'd say off the top of my head the episode with the kid that wanted the stamp was pretty great since it was a constant back and forth with a kid who wouldn't say no to anything and wanted that stamp and Lupin couldn't do anything about it, plus the banter she had with everyone was pretty great. The episode where Zenigata was "killed" and Lupin had to find out who was behind it and what happened. The episode where Lupin and Jigen became Shogi pieces for giant oni was super cool as well since they had to fight other pieces for a while and the entire concept was just cool.

Lupin was such a great series and I'm happy I watched it all.

Attached: QUALITY.jpg (960x720, 86K)

this and the episode with Fujiko's Ex might be my favorite episodes. The former is hilarious and the latter felt actually tense and exciting.

This was made by an italian group popular (back then) for their italian folk music. Lupin being half-french they just adpted their style to sound like it's parisian.
That song was only used really early on and was kinda forgotten unfortunately.

it'll be cool if Japan use it as an insert song one day

So what does people think of those character designs compared to the master file one?
youtube.com/watch?v=gZXBU3bURWc

Lupin's face seems weird to me in the new version, and i liked Fujiko better in the master file as well. Jigen is fine either way (i actually dig the new design choice with the shorter beard) and Goemon and Zenigata are fine too

Damn I really need to rewatch part 1, I don't remember liking it much outside of a few episodes.

Another bump for more lupin

What the fuck is it with lupin part 2 and hypnosis? So many episodes revolve around that shit that it's nauseating.

can italian bro post some sample of the dub

I wouldn't say it's the best Lupin instalment in terms of staying true to the characterisation etc. but as a standalone story it's one of the best, most archetypal adventure movies of all time, up there with Raiders Of The Lost Ark etc.

I wonder if they based Lupin and Jigen in Green Jacket on the UK tv show The Professionals

youtube.com/watch?v=o_bTtKK9Bvw
>In b4 blocked in your country

>Pycal
>not Whisky

doesnt work for me

Never heard of the UK show "The Professionals", but it seems like that came out after greenjacket aired.

>He doesn't know

Huh?

I think Red Jacket is Lupin’s most stylish look, but I like how green looks here.

What?
