Devilman: Crybaby

How was this the only good netflix original anime?

What's so different about it that is different than the other netflix originals?

>What's so different about it
Classic manga + directed by Masaaki Yuasa

It averages out to an 8/10

Violet evergarden was better to be honest.

Seriously, that's the same recipe for Uzamaki and I'm hoping it'll turn out good as well.

Style over substance done right.

That's not even a Netflix exclusive.
And it's also shit.

>Devilman: Crybaby
>Good
imagine having standards THIS low

Was anyone else a bit disappointed with this adaptation? I mean the acting was pretty good and the score was brilliant but somehow it just never really came together to make something worthwhile for me. I don't begrudge anyone for liking it obviously, and it's definitely vastly superior to a lot of the other "originals", I just wasn't particularly impressed myself

Just because something turned out popular, doesn't mean it's bad user.

>Good
I want reddit to leave. Ur shit taste might be contagious

SOULLESS

we're not in Yea Forums, it's okay to like things.

>not an exclusive
Where else is it hosted?

>good
noob detected

I wanted a personal take on the story that wasn't merely an imitation of the original, and that's what I got. There are clear flaws with the pacing etc, but I don't really care.

agreed
it feels like it's just suddenly "hey everyone is dead lol" without the proper development or buildup
there's some great aspects to it but i can't believe people think this is a masterpiece

The skip to the apocalypse is even more sudden in the manga.

I thought the rappers were a nice addition.

fucking secondaries

It reminded me a lot of the Parasyte adaptation, interesting take but didn't really click I guess in some areas.

It wasn't really the same. Parasyte the Maxim was a rather faithful adaption other for some cuts and cosmetics, while Crybaby was a vastly different story based on an existing manga.

is any of the cutie honey anime worth watching? i watched all of Re:Cutie Honey except the last episode and read the manga

Is the Cute Honey out of print in English or something? I want to complete my Go Nagai collection but Amazon keeps telling me it is out of stock

You might as well watch the last episode of RE, it's not as bad as episode 2 (which was directed by the Overlord director no less).

The opposite.

Stay mad, shitter.

>Devilman: Crybaby
>good
The fact watchmojo considers this turd anime of 2018 is colossal red flag of shit taste.

We're not in Yea Forums. How am I a shitter?

Is Cutie Honey Universe worth watching? Was the Cutie Honey manga intentionally cut short? I remember reading it and it left and an obvious cliff hanger. I don't even think it was a cliff hanger, it just ended outta nowhere.

It's bland, ugly and has bad music. Watch literally any other CH instead.

Fucking kek, Janny likes devilman crybaby from jewflix. And thats why the faggot removed my post and warned me. Suck my dick nigger. u have shit taste.

>I decide what to like or hate based on others' opinions.
t.sheeple

no one said anything about its popularity. are you retarded?

>it's a "cold open on raw homosexual ass-fucking" episode
Miss me with that gay shit, crybabyfag.

>over substance
Nani the fuck

Sure popular stuff and watchmojo aren't necessarily reliable as far as quality goes but even a broken clock is right twice a day, moreover, being a contrarian doesn't make your taste good either.

Is Yuasa doing Uzamaki?

Hi Score Girl is also good

No, Nagahama is.

Crybaby is good, but could have done a lot of thing better. The final battle is good tho but should be “deeper” if it ended like in the manga

Many scenes of the final battle in Crybaby were taken from Shin Devilman.

Lewd

I wish that they could have used more brighter and/or a less drab color scheme.

I get that the atmosphere from the get-go is supposed to be grimy, disturbing, and urban, but I feel it could have really have used a brighter colour palette in the beginning that maybe over the course of the anime got drabber, could have made the world feel a little less detached.

The colour direction they went with just makes the world look and feel exactly the same during the time when everything's peaceful to when the world is literally ending and being bombed. It's cool they at least went all out with colours during the club/apocalypse scenes though.

>Is Cutie Honey Universe worth watching?
Yes, if you are actually a fan of Nagai and Cutie Honey, it's pretty much the best adaptation you can find.
Also, make up your own mind and don't ask for opinions in a thread full of Yuasashitters like this one:

>It's bland, ugly and has bad music.

Someone who thinks that Crybaby looked good and that Universe looked bad has not the faintest idea what he's talking about. It certainly isn't bland in comparison. And the music was great and highly atmospheric. Of course, Yuasashitters won't get any of that, because they couldn't care less about the acutal substance of an anime.

Name a better 2018 anime then.

>Name a better 2018 anime then.
Most 2018 anime were better.
What do you want to hear?
Better Netflix anime? Better Nagai adaptation? Or just any better anime in general?
Hell, even Darling in the fucking Franxx was written more cohesively than Crybaby. And that's saying a lot.

>wah wah he liked a show directed by this specific man, he clearly can't think for himself

Now, now user, you don't have to force yourself to write such atrocious things just because you can't prove me wrong (without any real, not meme examples provided, mind you).

>he liked a show directed by this specific man
The problem is not that he liked something Yuasa made. It's that he calls a properly animated series "bland" when Crybaby looks like pic related.

Attached: crybaby_runs.gif (500x281, 2.29M)

I would honestly much rather watch Castlevania or Seven Deadly Sins or even Kakegurui

Devilman Crybaby is such a fucking horrible adaptation of the story and the characters so horribly executed I half expect the ghost of Go Nagai to murder everyone involved

Remember to not reply to the Nagai schizo and his gifs with horrendous framerate (in 2019).

>without any real, not meme examples provided, mind you
Better "Netfilx anime": VEG, Sirius the Jaeger, Baki
Better Nagai anime: Cutie Honey Universe, Mazinger Z Infinity (if you count that as 2018)
Better anime in general: Lupin III Part 5, Gegege no Kitaro, Zombieland Saga, Sora yori mo Tooi Basho

And that's only a relatively small selection. Crybaby was among the worst of the year, and definietely the worst adaptation I've ever seen of a Nagai manga, by the virtue of not getting anything about the source material right and blatantly ignoring what it was about.

And now fuck off, shitposter.

they completely shitted up the characters beyond belief, there is zero sense of friendship between Ryo and Akira, and Akira is ridiculously tolerant of Ryo's bullshit.
Like his reaction to Ryo attempting to kill his mom is to completely forget and forgive it literally immediately, it's so fucking annoying and insulting.

In the original manga and the old OVA it's at least understandable why it takes him so long to be suspicious of Ryo.

>muh running
Your IQ is just showing at this moment

>the Nagai schizo
Ah, here we go again. Yuasashitters hating on the fact that some people actually know what they're talking about.
Feel free to provide the same gif with a better framerate. It looks just as shit.

>by the virtue of not getting anything about the source material right and blatantly ignoring what it was abou
how so?

Any actual argument, troll?
Don't dismiss what you can't defend.

@193081565
I only hate obsessive shitposters who can't help but argue in bad faith. Now don't reply to me again, schizo.

Don't feed the troll.

I have my reasons to like the show as it is, which is enough for me, no one really changes it's mind by posting on Yea Forums, and I know you won't be the first.

>how so?
You've not read the manga, have you?
It not only misrepresented all the characters (most blatantly Ryo, but also Miki and Akira to an extent where their character arc made no sense), it also threw out all the themes concerning more value-based traditional ethics (and the conflicts that came with them) that the manga had. It added stupid meaningless drama (of the coming-of-age kind) that contributed nothing overall. And it had really shit pacing, weak narrative buildup and no thematic consistency at all. The writing was all over the place.

>I have my reasons to like the show as it is
Good. But then don't talk shit about other anime looking "bland" (when they obviously don't) if you can't see how the "show" you liked looked way worse.

>Akira never got to fuck this

Hey, come on. I hate Naruto as much as you, but you have to admit that it did have proper shading and clear lines, so please fix that in your pic.
Nice immitation of Yuasa's style though!

How was the overall message affected by that?

>muh yuasa
>muh running
>muh nagai
>muh netflix
Every fucking thread, it's ben almost 2 yeard already, ffs

He just can't get over it, it's better to just ignore him.

Crybaby just had a weak "war is bad" message. It did explore the ethics of what anyone did. More specifically, it didn't explore how humankinds shared values and sense of unity were what led to their own derailment later on.
It's kinda shocking how many self-proclaimed "professional" reviewers instead saw a "humans are the real monsters" message (nothing could be further from the manga's meaning) or xenophobia in Crybaby. Tells you how much Yuasa fucked up while dumbing it all down, if he even got anything of it himself.
As for how the meaningless teen-drama fluff affected it: By being totally out of place and fucking up the pacing even more.

Reminder that it started with Yuasafags attacking other Nagai things, as it always does.
If you can hand out criticism, learn to take it.
Crybaby is a giant meme and should be treated as such.

>It did explore
*It did NOT explore
Sorry. Had to correct that, with how pedantic people can get over all of this.

Like what Satan accidentally one shooting Akira and holding back the entire time? They couldn't because they changed the characterization to Saint Mary Sue Miki, Akira the Crybaby and Ryo the Sociopath.

>They couldn't because they changed the characterization to Saint Mary Sue Miki, Akira the Crybaby and Ryo the Sociopath.
Yep. That's where what might be the core problem of the whole script lies: They didn't care about the very thing they adapted and tried to replicate scenes without staying true to the characters.

He dies a virgin in the manga but fucks amnesiac Satan in Hell.

Yuasa isn't at fault. Code Gayass and Valvarape dude was in charge of the script and characters.

>It's another "autists pretend the devilman manga is a flawless master piece" episode.

>I would honestly much rather watch Castlevania
Castlevania is shit.

Yuasa was the director. He was the one who had the most creative control. Sure, he wasn't the only one who fucked up, and the writer has his (huge) share of the blame to take. But we can't absolve Yuasa who must have approved of that script.
And in the end, regardless of who's to blame, the result as a whole is a mess. People in here are denying that and labeling anyone who points out these weaknesses as a troll.

To be fair there isn't that much Netflix anime.
How much anime is there per season and how much of it is Crybaby level? Netflix barely produced a season worth of anime.
B was okay. Aiko and that cg robot one were generic seasonal. Watanabe went full senile westaboo. Can't remember the rest.

>Yuasa

>ghost of Go Nagai
Well, he isn't a ghost yet, so he can murder them himself.

In the manga, all demons used to be human. Not some weird dino beings but human who merged to survive the prehistoric era and evolved those kind of powers. They forgot this, Satan forgot this (Satan rebelled out LOVE to protect them). And bitterly realizes in the end how stupid her actions were and regrets them, not just for Akira.

The one who starts the witch hunt is a human being, not Ryo. Ryo's a character who was Akira's only human ally support even if he snaps sometimes under pressure and fear. That made the betrayal hurt more because Akira was left insolated. Sure he had Miki and her family, but they were hardly that meaningful in his journey as Ryo. He became Devilman FOR Ryo. The Makimuras are more grey because, off screen, they literally help to drive a family out and go with the demon accuser mob which, eventually, we find out are carry out and slain in a cladestine detention center. That the same mob and agency slain they is kind of twisted but karmatic, they were PART of this too. Miki's parents are taken by HUMANS and tortured to death in a human demon hunter lab.

Nobody is innocent. Akira gave up on humanity and let them kill each other and, once they did it, fought Satan. Humans didn't interfere in the last battle, they killed each other while both demons and devilman sat in the sideline. Akira didn't regret this outcome either, but Satan did.

It's not but the characters are less cliche and generic. Ironically the crybaby anime manages to not understand the characters are not what they seem.

Nagai is dead inside

B was absolute shit. It's the only anime I actually dropped.

Only when he's with Yuasa, user.

aoty by far

Attached: 1478767027551.png (1214x1109, 1.65M)

Shit taste man, the only good thing about it is the soundtrack

>In the manga, all demons used to be human. Not some weird dino beings but human who merged to survive the prehistoric era and evolved those kind of powers.
I'm pretty sure that they were never humans just that they looked human. Something like this youtu.be/Q9waEVdMcYk but they existed and evolved before humans. I'm guessing that aliens bullshit was to remove the religious elements.

I don't plan to read any of the sequels. God was right and Satan was a fag. The power of friendship is a stupid resolution.

>God was right
No, God wasn't right. God is the reason that whole mess happened and keeps happening.
Understanding the manga involves understanding that keeping the status quo is the essential cruelty. The inevitabilty of escaping that boundaries of the system is part of what being human means. It's the classical Faustian theme with all its consequences. And even the same antagonistic character modeled after the Christian god.

They were humans who lived with the dinosaurs. It's stated many times that's what the demons were, they gained merging abilities as a mere survival evolution.

>God was right and Satan was a fag
God is never right. God is always the bad guy in Go Nagai, before Devilman, Satan (the the versions of Satan like Lucifer twins in earlier works) is only portrayed as antagonist in Devilman, because was misguided and acted LIKE GOD and regretted it.
