Well, I don't know if the LN address this issue, but canonically Russian mages were put into gulag because the vast majority of them fought against the Commies during the Russian civil war and was done for practical reasons, not because of some irrational discrimination against mages so mages from other countries have no reason to worry. The hatred and fear of the Empire is widespread, but I don't think US and Britain want Commies to win either because Europe dominated by communism is as bad as Europe dominated by the Empire, if not worse

The reason the whole army adopted her thesis on flexible kampfgruppen was because the two top dogs of the army vouch for her.

Nigga she's the devil of the Rhine, every battle she fought was a complete victory (if you ignore the whole naval battle stuff) she developed new ways for the empire to fight and improved the logistics of the railroads, she could think of something that ends with the deads of many like gas bombs or just straigh out telling the world planes are better than mages.

She has influence, but not outside of a small mayor. And every attempt by her to increase her influence has ended in her being put to even more danger and even farther from directing the HQ. All she can do is suggest minor improvements on how to fight the war, not weather to fight it or not.
Also being X is constantly nagging all other nations in the world to declare war with setting up situations where Empire seems like some sort of supervillainous end of the world army.

She could not convince the empire to kill off the remains of the broken french legions, and was threathened with execution if she went awol and did it herself. She is just a Major, tho a tallented and cherished one.
Also everyone thinks she is a psychopath so nobody wants to hear about her 20 point plan to kill every single russian.

If the improvement does not win the war, its a minor one. Difference of killing 30 million or 90 million russians before your defeat is thanks to minor improvement, not a major one.

Except it really doesn't work that way. The shit she wrote in military academy is only just being implemented. Her biggest influence is on battle tactics, she has basically no say in strategy even if some of her theorems are being used.
And even if she does have friends in high places there's a limit on what they can do as well. The Empire's army is quite bureaucratic and they don't get to just do whatever they want. At best she can redirect the course of a battle or two, not reshape an entire theatre of war.

In his defense they are minor by looking at them from a wider angle, she can't do anything about logistics issues, she can't do anything about public opinion and politicians, diplomatic means are out of the question.

The Empire problems lie within the relationship between the politicians and the military which is something that in real life really bite Britain in the ass during World War I as later in the war the British prime minister would actively sabotage the war efforts because he disliked the commander of the BEF
In Germany it became quite the opposite as the military (mainly Ludendorff and Hindenburg) started to have a massive influence over the Empire's politics and successfully shot down every peace attempt made by the politicians. Germany during the last months of the war was effectively a military dictatorship
Youjo Senki seems to portray a similar reality where the politicians and the military are at odds which forces military to act more conservatively and with more caution

I think most people will stick to Major to refer to her due to the majority of her defining actions (so far) happening then. Same way she's very rarely just called Lieutenant.

At this point her magical attacks are close to primitive nukes, exept there is no radioactive fallout, which is pretty great.

Only the prayer-powered ones, and the mindcontrol ain't nice in the LN, it's basically a different character and little to no memory.

I think that the film could have used more lewd scenes with Tanya-chan.

the part where Mary got blessed and Tanya just shoot the shit out of her is fucking great.

Honestly, other than the bullshit deus ex machina at the end where the antagonist girl somehow gets whisked away before Tanya finishes her off It was pretty fuckin hype. I forgot how good the soundtrack was and the facial animations were great.

The plot was a little boring though, and excessive used of 3D for background characters during fights was painfully obvious and not very well implemented.

I'm gunna say about a 6.5 or a 7, enjoyable but with some noticable flaws that hold it back.

Next season very well might not happen.

It doesn't make much sense in the movie, but in the LN Tanya attacked Moscow before the Commies received mages from their allies. The Commies also released their mages and tried to improve their image so most American soldiers don't know about the gulags.

Movie is a fun ride, it may have some audio issues but overall, it was good.

I was great, just watched the SWS version

Movie was pretty good. They streamlined some things from the novel like not having the boat fight, although that might show up again and introduced the plan fighting with mages.

I wish they did more with the Rommel stand-in though. The LN fleshes out Tanya's relationship with him and you get some nice insight about how people see Tanya as a direct subordinate.

I mean, the deus ex machina can just be chalked up to Sonzai X being a bitch, but you're right, it kinda sucked. It's probably setting up the next season.

novel is slightly different and they basically united together different parts of the novel. Mages were in fact in gulags, but were called back after moscow's attack. drake and mary team wasn't in russia yet, they went there in the next novel in fact. the fight in the end was much smaller and a different operation in mainland england in which mary was being trained

she did and suggested to fight this war as a liberation war anti-commie to avoid real life situation in which stalin could call it a national war and united anti commie faction against the germans

I haven't read the LN yet but am I right thinking Tanyas mind control from the prayer is influencing those bigass reports she writes in a way which suggests she wants to be in charge of it and thus shipped back out to the front even though thats the complete opposite of what they want? Or is the guy in charge just a dick?

She holds off using the Type-95 in the novel a lot and when she does she has no memory of what she did for the most part while also acting completely against her intentions and character most of the time.
