Apparently it is a misconception that space is freezing. It is technically cold because there is no heat but the human body will not LOSE heat either. However all body fluids in contact with space will vaporize because of the vacuum. An intact dead human body would not lose all fluids immediately, skin is pretty though, but Kanata's arm is severed and exposed so I expect it would dry up fast. It would most of its mass and turn into a tiny dusty skeletal arm like you would see on a 2000 years old mummy. It would not decompose. Decomposition requires water, heat and bacteria. We already covered that there won't be much water or heat, but on top of that the the arm will be bathed in cosmic radiations that kill bacteria. Depending on the radiation shielding on the suit these radiations may cause the last bit of mummified arm to completely disintegrate.

I initially thought the something similar, it was an abandoned space ship after all. I think it would've been cool if someone had an airlock accident.

It is entirely possible that the ball has clumsy controls, such as input delay or the ability to process only one input at the time. Let's consider that the ball has both and works like this: first Charce picks a direction and a duration in seconds, the ball takes one second to process the order and then it moves in that direction for that number of seconds, during which it cannot accept any new input. Simple enough, but difficult to use. If Charce had already given the ball the order that would kill both Kanata and himself in the next second then it is understandable why Charce had to disable the device as the only way to end the threat.
