This show was great. Why did Japan absolutely despise it?

I like it
Pros:
>eerie atmosphere
>good character study
>great concept
Cons:
>weak main characters
>meh conclusion

the meh conclusion is because they were setting up for a S2 that never happened because the show tanked

Really sad, had potential of a modern masterpiece

It’s weird cause I think season 2 without the Black Haired Woman wouldn’t be the same.

I'm surprised people actually liked it. It was a pretty mediocre combination of death-game mechanics, too meaningful for you (but not really) and "these people are dead, isn't it sad?" that kind of went nowhere.

I liked the character designs, though.

Was this the last time Madhouse actually tried?

Hunter x Hunter unironically

Only the pilot was actually good.
Most of it was wasted potential.
Great OP though.

This. Also the OP was godly. I listen to it at least once every couple weeks.

Death Billiards was one of the least interesting stories. The young guy was kind of scummy but not really a bad person at heart, while the old guy seemed meek but he had figured out the game and was merely putting on an act. That's it, there wasn't much to it, it only left a better impression because it was the first.

I want Bradio Flyers playing at my funeral.

Also, the animation was downright comical in how it tried so hard, with inhuman movements and expressions and characters drooling and crying all over the place. I know that the Anime Mirai was meant to showcase animation, but they went too far at the expenses of the product.

Death Parade was in 2015, user.

It has an 8.23 score on mal, though

ACCA 13 was 2017 and good

And how many of them bought the BDs?

It was good but Madhouse put the least amount of effort they could get away with, half of the episodes were outsourced.

>My reading comprehension
I will kill myself to atone for this mistake soon
to answer the question, probably but I did enjoy Parasyte and Boogiepop

This is the main issue. The reason most series never see the light of day again if Japan doesn't like them, is because the Japanese are the ones that put in the money, most Westerners don't/wont. Japanese will buy the BDs, figurines, special event tickets ect.

The first few episodes were good but it went to complete shit when it tried to have a plot.

>Madhouse put the least amount of effort they could get away with
That would be Parasyte

>Only the pilot was actually good
Pilot one? Huh?
Kinda agree. I though that the couple one and actress/gamer boy and the singer/fangirl were terrible but the black hair girl and the revenge duo were really good.
Id watch more tho, it was a decent watch overall.
Also ED is underrated.

What's acca?

>Inb4 lurk more newfag

More like try googling instead of asking.

They didn't get away with that one. Also checked.

Boogiepop was 2019 and unanimously praised by all but China

Just because something was "good" doesn't mean Madhouse actually put effort into it. Boogiepop had some good scenes, but the art and animation was usually middling. With a few outliers, they've been pretty disappointing the past few years.

>ntr faggotry
It was shit

well maybe they should stop earning a name for studio with most articles on hellhole work conditions then

Starters? look at that fucking hair.

Is it really good? I watched like 2 episodes of it when it came out and dropped it

Liked Decim, reminded me of Ulquiorra

You and a bunch of other people. It confused a lot of people because of it's bizarre episode format. there are multiple stories going on at once, that all converge, but it flips back and forth. It was decent, but you need to watch the entire series to get the whole picture.

Got tired of the
>SIDE A: I AM OBVIOUS BAD GUY WITH A PROBLEM
>SIDE B: I ALSO HAVE PROBLEM THAT IS WORSE THAN YOUR PROBLEM
>SIDE A: I ONLY DID PROBLEM BECAUSE SAID PROBLEM
>SIDE B: WELL I ONLY DID PROBLEM BECAUSE OF PROBLEM I KNEW ABOUT
>SIDE A: I-IMPOSSIBLE NO ONE KNEW ABOUT THAT BUT I ALSO KNOW IMPOSSIBLE THING ABOUT YOU
>SIDE B: NANI?!?!? AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

Probably would have worked better if shit introduced wasn't such run of the mill tropes in terms of shit, and I actually knew the characters worth a damn before judging their shit. Pulls like that can work when characters are established a bit, half of an episode(if that) to establish shit isn't enough for me to give a shit about the conflict.

Threadly reminder that she cheated on him.

Shit should have been episodic in the same way PSG or Dandy was episodic though there was a pretty slight overarc of a plot that you could look into if you wanted but really didn't hurt the individual episodes.

how did they made such boring characters seem so fun in the op?

it was shit then they tried to make a deep plot, the one shot was better

its like half assed persona + mira nikki which every one likes the individual parts better than that mongrel mix

it was kind of just a drawn out retread of the OVA

Nips have shit taste. News at 11

Isn't that the core premise of the show though?
How can you blame the show for you watching it after it told you in the first episode what it was going to be about? Were you expecting it to stop?

The bowling episode was nice

This. I can't think of a single actually decent show that the NIps liked but the rest of the world didn't pay attention to, but I can think of dozens of the opposite scenario.

Mediocre trash

Liked when Decim dabbed on a single mom.

>take some part-time job as a shinigami
>you must determine whether souls stuck in limbo..
>deserve to be reborn or eternal purgatory
>you're not allowed to know anything about their previous life
>so you make them play a death game and gauge their reaction
i'd say the weight of their decision is way too 'deep' for you to grasp what the show is about. if I had to pull the switch, I'd be sending your soulless marxist ass to purgatory.

It's good, and probably better enjoyed marathoned.

He looks like the dude from mushishi

Boogiepop came out this year and I liked it

Japan hated it? I thought it was awesome.

I basically agree but it had a good aesthetic and was entertaining enough to watch.

hey even if wasnt true before its true now

The threads were better than the show. Having "abusive husband" vs "cheating slut" in the first episode sent Yea Forums into chaos

I would have liked it more if it was a judgement of the week for the whole series.

>Why did Japan absolutely despise it?
why the hyperbole? Disinterest does not equal despising something absolutely.
