Bittersweet
Shinji realized its better to form relationships even if it results in pain but he realized it a tad to late and fucked the entire world up
altho the ending is open ended enough that you can imagine other people coming out of the orange juice and humanity rebuilding

A happy one.

Seeing how Asuka was there despite being been killed I assumed that everyone who died had been brought back or at least, the people Shinji thought of.

haven't seen Eva in a few years but isn't it implied that anyone can come back if they want?

Its left a little ambiguous on purpose I think.

It was? If it was, it completely flew over my head. I wouldn't be surprised if that were the case, though.

I think that's why Asuka came back. She had the will to keep on living even if it meant suffering. While the Seele dudes would happily stay in the juice. Then again, my boomer memorie might be failing me.

When I first watched the show it took me longer than I would like to admit to establish a connection between the Committee and Seele. I would like to say I was a dumb 12 year old, but that'd be a bold lie.

it stopped being funny after you spammed it for the 5th eva thread in a row

The actual final scene is soul-crushing with a hint of light.

>happy one? A sad one? Bittersweet?
Yes

It's definitely bittersweet. The characters get some resolution and they grow, but the world is still pretty damn fucked, and virtually everyone is tang. The ocean is piss red and it could be that the entire globe is devastated permanently.

Cool, thanks. I'm guessing then that a lot of people managed to come back.

Why was Shinji's first instinct upon seeing Asuka to kill her?

Infamously left just a little bit ambiguous

None of those simple emotions. It's meant to be poetic and to thematically complement the climax. The triumphant, hopeful climax in the dream world where Shinji figures it out is meant to be contrasted with the harshness of reality. Even if he gets it now, the hard part is yet to come as he is seemingly left with the worst circumstances possible to do what he came back down to do.

Just saw it today. Although I haven't seen a lot of anime, I think no other work of fiction that I've seen made me feel that much like Evangelion.

The most obvious answer is that that is what he did last time he saw her. And it shows that Shinji is still afraid of rejection.

Well one theory is that Shinji has been on the beach on a while. And he is choking Asuka because he is not sure if she is real.

Yeah, and we only see two people do so. What does that say?

We also only see one beach.

Really? Because the idea that I got was that very few came back.

Out of the ones we see tanged the only one that I see coming back is Shigeru because he flat out rejected instrumentality everyone else embraced it super hard.

>Netflix gets the license
>Still no BD release for US
Death to Netflix and death to everyone that gives money to Netflix

I originally thought that only Asuka had come back because Shinji had willed her to life before I got that reminder. But I'm more optimistic if people just needed to wish to come back in order to do so; I do remember the sounds of screaming all around the Earth as they were all joined into one; with that kind of reaction it wouldn't be foolish to expect a fair number of people who wish to retain their individuality.

What did Shinji even eat while he was sitting there?
The Tang?

Bittersweet, obviously. There's nothing happy about the near-death of the human race.

The Beast That Shouted Love At The Heart Of The World?
Yes. Undeniably so.
EoE?
Absolutely not. EoE is the bad ending, where Shinji doesn't realize in time.

He believes that she hates him, because he hates himself. So he loathes her and that's why he murders her.
EoE is the bad end to Shinji's character arc, while 26 is the good end.

That is a stupid interpretation, if Shinji thinks Asuka hates him it is because how she acted last time they saw each other.

Anime doesn't get better than it, and though people will insist there are better shows, there aren't.

>one theory is that Shinji has been on the beach on a while

I think that the script basically say this explicitly. if you notice, Shinji has made graves and the nails have rusted. The Eva units have also rusted. He may have been out for weeks if not more.

TV series ending - happy
EoE ending - sad
>>youtube.com/watch?v=hf1DkBQRQj4

Series ending is definitely a happy one.

EoE is bittersweet, since the world is royally fucked even if people can come back. like how will they grow corn

>Infamously left just a little bit ambiguous

It isn't left ambiguous whether or not they can come back. They can return if they want to restore their AT fields and become individuals again. To experience pain and suffering but also joy. What is ambiguous, and is quite unsettling for it, is that it doesn't seem to be the case that others seem willing to return. They seem to be happy in the LCL. Shinji may have arrived first, Asuka arrives later, and perhaps they are first or just the only ones we can see. Who knows.

It was a different script.
I don’t think there is any mention of Shinji making any graves except for nailing Misato’s cross.

So is he basically leaving periodically to (presumably) eat, drink and sleep, and just hangs out at the beach when he's awake?

The rusty nail still exists, as do the rotting Eva series.

Who the hell knows? It's all left very ambiguous, but I just don't think it is unintentional that the shots linger on the cross and nail and Eva units.

>The rusty nail still exists, as do the rotting Eva series
I mostly focused on your use of plural for graves and nails.

Where exactly would he leave too?

There's no reason there wouldn't still be supplies/a bed in the city

Everyone remembers the beach choking scene, but no ones ever talks about the heartfelt sequence between Shinji and his mother that happens right before it.

Because the idealistic talk is obviously meant to be contrasted towards the harsh reality.

There is also no reason for Shinji to lie on the beach, yet he does it anyway.

Bittersweet. We know anyone with the will to live can come back but Shinji made graves for his friends thinking they wouldn't. This leads me to believe it's been a while since Shinji was left alone and is at the beach desperately waiting for someone to keep him company.

His relationship with Asuka is also bittersweet since she shows him some sign of love but still calls him disgusting

Why did they need to kill all the angels before commencing Third Impact?

Attached: 1416185507420.jpg (800x550, 157K)

I'll never understand this pic. Is Shinji his regular size and it's a perspective trick making him look like a small kid or is this really a /ss/ situation?

He was also told she was dead and multilated. Its like a nightmare seeing her return, bandaged but alive at the end/rebith of the world.

Asuka is on top of a sand mound while shinji is at the lower slope of it, its perspective

Because humanity would be defenseless as tang. Meaning if Seele initiated Third Impact there would be nothing stopping a angel from initiating Fourth Impact. Well that is what I think at the very least.

Dude you're fucking obsessed with this dumb shit.

Still didn't understand the ending.
