First season had plenty of comfy episodes. Not everything needs to be serious edgy.

The humans ruined it. Chris was bad enough, but the shoehorned ethnicities+wheelchair girl took it to a whole new level.

Wheelchair girl and the female cop were probably the best human characters in the show. Former doesn’t actually show up much, so not sure what you’re talking about exactly.

So why was Sonic a borderline sociopath in Sonic X?

Its not about being edgy. Its more about not having poor production values, less boring episodes, and having some sort of series direction that doesnt revolve around Sonic hanging out with some spoiled rich kid that acts like he doesnt have much despite already having a cool grandfather, and friends his age to hang out with. The show crappliy adapting the Adventure games is the most directed and focused parts of the first two seasons while the rest of the show is just super boring shit. Its like they didnt have many ideas about what they wanted to actually show. Some parts like the Cop lady messing around with Rouge and Sonic playing with the wheelchair girl are nice but thats so few and far in-between.

The third season has much more effort put into it along with a bigger budget to make everything less boring. Even Chris is better as a character since at that point hes actually a smart adult (who was dating the wheelchair girl at the time) that turned back into his child body. Making him more mellow, far less clingy and actually useful. There's an original story that last the entire season that involves everyone in their own way. They dont waste episodes with dumbass baseball cause they gotta keep the evil space robot empire that has destroyed several planets from finding the Chaos Emeralds and taking over the galaxy. Its not super amazing but it really is the only season that's worth a damn.
