You're sincerely the first person I've seen who prefers the K-On manga. I've read it and it feels so skeletal in comparison to the anime and much more of a bog standard 4koma.
>193029350
>SM and yotsuba
Very close, but not quite: That isn't the Sailor Moon manga, but "Codename wa Sailor V".
what's the bottom right manga?
Damn, didn't know why I slipped over my keyboard and wrote "SM" instead of "SV". Nevertheless, it's a great manga for binging in one session, though i wish there were more chapters
It's easily been easily 3 years since I read it, maybe I just kept it in good memory. Definitely will have to reread at some point, though my point still stands that the anime didn't do it for me.
>do you also read manga
I've read less than a hundred manga, so no. I guess I've read Matsumoto's works and own his art books, so that's something. For some reason manga are less immersive to me than literature. So every time I try getting into manga I quickly lose motivation because I have a hard time setting the right atmosphere to enjoy myself. Maybe one day... guess I'll be forced to do it soon since I ran out of worthwhile anime to watch a while ago.

Okay, I'll be nice. It's DNA².
Thanks. Also sorry I might've worded that a little bit retarded, didn't even really give it much thought.
i think i couldn't get into it just because it felt too like hanna barbera style or something which weirded me out
did you like rahxephon immediately when you first watched it or did it grow on you? what does the trajectory of your appreciation look like?
>i think i couldn't get into it just because it felt too like hanna barbera style or something which weirded me out
You have no fucking idea what you're talking about.
what are these shorts?
i really don't but i'm willing to learn. i do know when i was watching lupin iii i kept thinking of old cartoons i saw on tv as a kid. that's what i meant with that statement but maybe the comparison is obviously wrong to people who know something about it? what's so wrong about my statement?
>what does the trajectory of your appreciation look like?
Good question. I genuinely can't recall. On my first watch it peaked with e24, but I don't think I actually appreciated the world building episodes (e15, e12, e8 etc.) at all. IIRC I even hated e15 because I considered it ugly. Pretty embarrassing in hindsight, given how I bought an entire book for its key animation frames afterwards. Then again, I also thought Yuasa's works looked like shit when I first started watching anime. To me, RahXephon was similar to Palme. I watched it, had a gut feeling that there was something to explore, did some research and it just went from there. Not sure what part of it appealed to me initially. Might have been the subdued romance. Or maybe, after having watched Evangelion and Fafner, I was just happy for the protag to not be some angsty teen for once.
Lupin's visuals and overall production quality exceed any Hanna-Barbera TV animation produced during the 60s and 70s 100 times over. Maybe your comparison wasn't entirely inaccurate since Tom and Jerry (directed by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera) was a major source of inspiration that Monkey Punch drew from while writing Lupin but when people say "Hanna-Barbera cartoon" they're usually referring to the cheap 60s and 70s TV animation.
If it is the case that you dislike Lupin because it resembles Tom and Jerry then I'd like to ask why that is. What's wrong with Lupin reminding you of cartoons you saw as a kid? Also I sure as hell hope you watched green jacket in its entirety. Dezaki and Miyazaki both have some fantastic episodes that I'd hate for anyone to miss out on.
thanks. admittedly a lot of this is lost on me because i didn't get to most of the episodes you mentioned. but i will say in response to your comment about the protagonist that for me the biggest reason i couldn't get into rahxephon is that i didn't like watching the characters, they felt somehow really off-putting.
yeah it's not as though i knew the tom and jerry connection i just meant as you said "cheap 60s and 70s TV animation" so in terms of visuals the comparison only went as deep as "they're both old" for me. but maybe even more integral to the comparison in my mind than the visuals is the sort of stories of lupin iii episodes which made me think of 60s 70s cartoons i saw on tv because of the way things seem to happen one after another which in both cases makes me feel awkward and uncomfortable.

In what way? Behavioural patterns? Designs? There's a lot of peope who really dislike the designs I think, something that always surprises me since Akihiro Yamada is easily one of my top 3 character designers. Admittedly the show suffers quite a bit from the shitty resolution though.

that frame looks like ass though
True. It's considerably lower resolution.
And I'm not only saying that because your quads grant you absolute authority.
off-putting behavior. i like the designs.
i'm not sure i can satisfactorily pinpoint the reason for it but in lupin iii it seemed to me the developments in the stories came and went too quickly and unexpectedly for me to fully grasp them on a sort of emotional level. one guy has the upper hand and then suddenly he doesn't and then he does again that kind of stuff. which was somewhat intense and i couldn't watch more than two or three episodes at a time because it made me feel a bit exhausted. but then i think of something like luluco which i really enjoyed and it also introduces new developments quickly but for some reason it didn't bother me-in fact it entertained me quite a bit- and that puts me at a loss.
Best version of that exact pic I could find.
Of course, it would help not using that bighugelabs shit in the first place, because that kinda ruins all panels by upscaling them to 1000x1000 px.

I liked the mono no aware aspects of it. I just think it didn't really amount to much in the end. I still appreciate what it was trying to do, but I like more maximalist and grandiose things, so I wasn't really part of it's target audience.

While you're at it, you really should look up what "waifu" means and rename it to something sensible, like "3x3 bestgirls.png".

I'm starting to get a good picture of why you feel the way you do about Lupin. It's the kind of series that doesn't take itself very seriously, as you said. The action is all over the place and fights are full of characters dodging impossible amounts of bullets. It's partially for those reasons that I enjoy Lupin so much but I can just as easily see why they would be turnoffs to some people. If you want to see the best of what the series has to offer though you should definitely check out the episodes listed in
it is flcl in the top left you got it right
middle left? I watched a few episodes but forgot its name
You mean Maruko-chan? It's probably the most popular long-running TV anime in Japan. Really big with the "family demographic". I myself have honestly never seen it - too many episodes to get into. Would be like starting to binge-watch the Simpsons as an adult, I assume: Nice, but hard to get through.
>the most popular long-running TV anime in Japan
what about doraemon?
...
I haven't been on here in years, the 3x3s seem very different. The template used to be something like (NGE, TTGL, Spice and Wolf, Welcome to NHK, FLCL, Haruhi, those kinds of shows) but now it seems like its more like one or two obscure shows that you only watched for the purpose of putting it in your 3x3, one or two genre shows (mecha, sports, MS), one or two mainstream shows (Sailor Moon, Fate/Zero) to show that you're "not pretentious" or whatever, a show by Yuasa and a show by Kyoani
Another contender. That's why I said "probably". Maybe "arguably" would have been a better word here. After all, how do we even determine general popularity?
There is no template, user. Just include what your honest favourites are.

Ah, okay, then.
I had a 3x3 that I made some time ago but I don’t find it so I’ll just do the usual pretentious “taste rating”.
KareKano is really great
Monogatari is really great (UNLIKE MADOKA MAGICA!)
I love Haibane Renmei, Texhnolyze is amazing, Angel’s Egg is really good and KareKano is great. Ping Pong is the best sports anime ever made.
Really comfy retro collage. What’s Do Re Mi about?
Really surprising how you have Princess Tutu on your collage and still like the vastly inferior Madoka Magica. Hyouka is a really good SOL, as Aria and Anne Of The Green Gables. You also have Digimon Tamers, that’s no question the best kodomo ever made alongside Princess Tutu.
Good collage for the most part (excluding anime I used to like but now dislike F/Z, S;G, K-ON!)
This is the weirdest 3x3 I’ve seen in my life
Thumbs up for SSY, Tutu, LOGH and PB. JoJo’s is a great action show and again, I don’t get how after seeing Tutu you guys still like Madoka
Very honest grid. And I hate all of it except Haruhi and NHK.
Terrific collection of unique once-in-a-lifetime shows
Kill La Kill is the best action show we got this decade, Little Witch Academia is amazing and heartwarmingness at it’s best. Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Champloo are as great as always and Soul Eater is one of my first anime so I’ll love it and ignore how the second half is weaker in comparison.
The best ITT.

>Yuasa

>Mahoujin Guru Guru

Dancer In The Dark is the greatest movie ever made. Are you a cultured Björkfag as myself?
I like everything here but Hosoda.
it's actually not that long, the original series is only 140 episodes or so. it was rebooted after that, and it's the 2nd series that still running today.
nothing is obscure, you're just ignorant.
Well, watching only the original one is an option. But is it actually better than the newer, longer, series? Shouldn't one watch both?
I do think it's an easy series to get into if you grew up with it airing on TV and catch it running when you flip through channels or put it on as some background noise. Just like I watched the simpsons or most 90s' sitcoms.
It does seem cozy enough.
Bump. 3x3 thread can’t die so fast
This will probably be one of the last 3x3 threads I ever post in. I'm kind of running out of anime on my backlog that seem interesting and I'm a lot more invested in rock music and jazz nowadays. I'll always watch Precure, though.
Damn, I don’t know you and you don’t know me but I hope we interact -without knowing it- on Yea Forums.
>chibi maruko-chan
nice
I'm gonna be honest here: I'm kinda gonna miss you. There's always new anime (besides Pretty Cure, so maybe something will catch your interest. Who knows?) I do agree that we need more jazz and rock in anime though!
Oh, and by the way, the last time you posted this you suggested a few things to me and the thread got deleted before I could respond. While I did not get to watch/read any of them in that month since then (pretty much exactly a month, as the archive tells me), first off: Thanks!
Kaitou Saint Tail has a really nice aesthetic, and the story outline reminds me a bit of Cat's Eye, albeit a bit more cutesy. Could be good!
Fancy Lala doesn't really seem like something I'd enjoy too much, at least not at fist glance, but I'll give it a go when I find the time.
Appleseed is something I've heard of, but never got around to reading/watching. It would definitely be interesting.
And, well, I already do already know Juushin Liger (the manga, not the anime) and I do like it. It doesn't quite have the grand scale of Devilman or the metaphorical level of Cutie Honey, but it is a more (inter)personal story about family, values, finding a purpose and so on. Also less controversial and risqué than the average Nagai manga.
And another curious thing: The two things you named as relative favourites on each grid (Sailor Moon and Cutie Honey) happen to be my personal favourites as well. No idea what that means in the bigger picture. Probably nothing.
Well, anyway, in case we don't meet anymore: Farewell, user! It was a pleasure talking to you.

what anime top right?
you dont need to start watching chibi maruko chan from the beginning. its one of those things that you just watch when its on, and you can pick up from anywhere. only an idiot would start binging it from episode 1
>only an idiot would start binging it from episode 1
I personally like the earlier episodes better, but I agree that it's not essential to watch the whole series in order or anything.
every manga/anime by Adachi is practically the exact same. I read/watched Nine, H2, Touch, and Cross Game and it was like watching the same thing 4 times
>its one of those things that you just watch when its on
Well ... considering I'm not in Japan, it's never "on" for me. Any episode you can suggest starting off with?
Touch fucking sucks, thanks for saving me some time.
Not him, but there's only a few episodes subbed anyways. I disagree that it's a bad idea to start at the beginning, because the early episodes are really very cute and good.
start with the newest one. as i said, its one of those "anime" that are more like cartoons than anime (alongside with doraemon, sazae san, crayon shin chan, etc). theres no end to it if u try to start at the beginning and nobody does that except for tryhards. theres no overall story, all u need to know are the characters, who you'll get to know just by starting anywhere.

I've seen a fair amount of older anime too (i'll add a few if i make my own 3x3) but its interesting how the rest of this board seems to be discussion of 2000s/2010s anime but 1970s/80s anime tends to dominate this thread
I'll look forward to your 2020s chart assuming I haven't offed myself by then. Also, watch Gold Lightan and Dokonjougaeru if you don't mind them being (mostly) unsubbed.
>the rest of this board seems to be discussion of 2000s/2010s anime but 1970s/80s anime tends to dominate this thread
Well, people do mostly discuss the anime that has not been discussed as much in the past and that more people are currently watching. That's first and foremost things that air or just just have finished airing (or have been released on BRD and as Torrents). That's why you mostly get seasonal discussion.
Lots of the people who tend to spam threads are also pretty young and new to this, so the troll-threads tend to be about stuff from the last 10 to 20 years.
On the other hand, the people in here post their all-time favourites, not for discussion purposes or anything like that, but just because. Which means you do get a range of nearly 70 years of anime. I assume that many of us in here did start watching anime before 2000, so a good amount of their favourites made an impression on them back then. Nostalgia does play a role.

Anyone still awake and willing to post grids?
So, what does the 3x3 need to look like to not be a template anymore?
>I'm kind of running out of anime on my backlog that seem interesting
Can relate. I am merely rewatching anime at this point and and sit around waiting so I can fnially download the blurays for recently released movies and OVAs. Seasonal has been terrible the past 2 years. Guess I actually hate anime.
I just woke up, so that's the best you're gonna get.

>I just woke up, so that's the best you're gonna get.
Not that bad for being awake. But you could have rated others.
making small talk is much more productive than rating anyway.
Punpun is edge porn. One Piece is worse than Naruto. Made in Abyss is literally pedoshit. I don't like the pre-Gappy Jojos any more. YKK looks boring but I haven't read it, maybe it's good. HnK has good art but I read some of the mangaka's other stuff and didn't like the storytelling.
Is that To Love Ru? Shitty version of Urusei Yatsura. What's bottom mid? I like fit girls. Bottom right looks cool too.
Welcome back, cryposter. Ping Pong is the best one. Didn't like Akira at all and I've recently been disliking all sci-fi. Parasite and FKMT are manly.
