The way that conversation played out was more personal and hinted at something outside of the situation because of Akaza's strange response "I will kill you for sure" to Kokushibou even when Akaza was pissed because of Douma's behavior.
Finally Kokushi went apeshit after Akaza died and cut away some pillars around himself.

Kokushibou stepped in not because of the violence(Akaza hit Douma earlier in the scene and he didn't do shit), but because Akaza gave Douma, his superior, an order ("Get lost!"). It's subtle, but I think it adds a lot to his character
