Live TLs have always been a part of Yea Forums culture and Kimetsu isn't the first series where I've read translations next to scans. If techniques can be passed down through ancestry, much like how Tanjirou learned the Dance of the Fire God from his ancestors doing it for centuries, then it's not a stretch for Genya to be able to use techniques by partly becoming Koku.

Right now is their best shot while he's recovering but he seems to have a plan for the pillars. If he's at 100%, probably impossible without a timeskip. I imagine he has some broken demon arts too

Turning a pillar would be more of a fuck you fight your former friend as a frenzied demon while I wander on back to Muzan situation, you'd think as soon as any of the pillars regained their mind after being turned they'd immediately kill themselves. Demons seem to eventually regain control of themselves in a warped fashion, they might become demons for the drama but they won't follow and serve Muzan after her escapes.

I'd expect a huge shitstorm if they introduce completely new people as pillar replacement instead of using, you know, Tanjirou, Inosuke & Zenitsu. Moreover, it'd feel like like a huge asspull, since you need to kill a twelve moon or 50 demons in order to become a pillar, and we've seen how each of the twelve moons died.

Hunters die all the time, Pillars are just those who take longer to die, and the very lucky few who even manage to retire. There never will be a waiting list of potential Pillars waiting on the outside because only 9 can make the cut.

Not if the requirement to fill those positions bars more people than the lack of positions do. I was under the impression that anybody who killed one of the Twelve Demon Moons or 50 demons automatically qualifies. The manga never explained how they would decide who becomes Hashira if more than 9 people fulfill those requirements, and most members die young, so I assumed that meant slayers rarely ever reach those requirements.

But that system doesn't account for the Tsuguko system they have going on either. The whole Hashira-decision process seems really inconsistent overall.

The manga doesn't bother to explain that because it expects you understood the times it has stated the mortality rate of hunters are through the roof, the possibility of having so many good hunters that that are qualified to become Pillars is small, they just won't survive through literally all 10 ranks below Pillar.

You don't need to look further than Kanao, she is the most talented of the cast, already a Tsugoko, yet she was only ranked 7th of 10 in the system. It might be the Douma fight that makes her "level up" to 10th rank and then Pillar.

It just says that Muzan couldn't find the Blue Spider Lily anywhere in Japan, so I guess the China part was also just a theory that originated from that.
