The brightness of the bamboo filament isn't used as a plot device, the entire point of the scene is just for Senkuu to dab on the stone world and show how far he's come in the last 16 months, as well as to get Gen on his side. So yes, it's not 100% scientifically accurate, but for the sake of dramatic effect it makes the scene much better.

For a STEM degree(to be a scientist or a doctor) you have to dedicate 6-8 years of rigorous study and being poor as fuck in order to be able to succeed. I disagree. Most Universities build their curriculum as if you are only going to school and doing nothing else(unless you got there on an athletic scholarship). Which means they're creating a course load that requires you to go to school for at least 6-8 hours a day to complete a degree and have at least another 6-8 hours of study time/assignments to complete.

Of course it is entirely possible to do both if you go into an easy degree or a degree that doesn't push for so many assignments to be done. But with the way most STEM degree programs are built, they automatically assume people don't work. That's why you see so many engineering students without friends too, they don't allow you to have a life outside of school work.
