I think the newer art kicks ass with its level of detail, especially in its backgrounds and character proportions and perspective. But it's a little weird with the juxtaposition between, for example, Yotsuba's highly-detailed sweater and her less-detailed face. It's part of the medium I guess. I like the expressions and they wouldn't work as well if they were very detailed, or at least it wouldn't fit the cute aesthetic.

I have the feeling that a lot of the backgrounds recently felt like filtered photographs which made them a little strange, but I'm not sure
