Yeah the way she acts towards Shinji makes sense considering they were childhood friends and she isn't absolutely fucked up like in NGE. I mean, despite all her mental trauma in NGE, she still flirted with Shinji a lot and wanted him to care for her, so really in GoS she acts the same way but without all of the fake ego/autism bullshit.
Rei on the other hand I just can't get behind because she is a completely different person. I don't give a fuck about Kaworu though, Toji and Kensuke are Shinji's boys for life.

Non-canned food gets bad quickly. Canned food lasts a bit longer, but it still runs out eventually.
So maybe a year or two if they are very lucky.

Well if there is a nearby town with stores they can find plants seeds and try growing food. They could also steal some books about raising plants while they are at it, or could learn to hunt. And for water, water bottles at stores should be good to use and plumbing should still work for a while so they can filter tap water using a water filter.

If anything after 3rd impact the environment would improve. LCL is the primordial soup of life that earth life first evolved in, so microscopic ocean life should bounce back pretty quickly.
In the episode with Futzski and Yui they say that the environment was decimated after 2nd impact and mankind was heading for extinction anyway, so I like to think 3rd impact did something to fix that. Rei/Lilith's corpse would be like the greatest whalefall of all time, so if any fish are alive in the Pacific Ocean they must be eating well.

Plant life is intact according to some EoE screenshots so they could grow their own food using LCL as fertilizer and pick fruit, roots and vegetables for the time being. As for animal life, all of that is probably tang. Algae would probably thrive in LCL environment so they son't be short of oxygen.
