This.
Pom Poko is almost unwatchable

what makes this absolutely average cartoon a masterpiece?

Heidi, Anne, Yamadas, Kaguya, etc. are all great

>Heidi, Anne
he should've stayed making these

Keeps the toddlers quiet for 2 hours

Because Kaguya and Only Yesterday are absolute kinos

Yikes!

Get some fucking taste, man

Yes, don't watch any of Takahata's snorefest for starters.

Totoro is peak Ghibli.

Everyone likes Totoro

I enjoyed Kiki and Howl a lot more. Totoro was alright but I don't get the hype. Totoro himself wasn't even in the movie that much, really.

Objective Ghibli ranking:

>God tier
Iblard Jikan

>Excellent tier
The Story of Yanagawa's Canals
My Neighbors the Yamadas
Whisper of the Heart

>Great tier
Pom Poko
Only Yesterday
Princess Kaguya

>Decent tier
Ocean Waves
Castle of Cagliostro
The Wind Rises

>Average tier
Porco Rosso
My Neighbor Totoro
Grave of the Fireflies

>Bad tier
Kiki
Spirited Away
Ponyo
Laputa

>Shit tier
Mononoke
Howl
Marnie
Nausicaa
Cat Returns
Earthsea
Arrietty

Directors like Yuasa and Oshii are around average/decent tier while hacks like Kon, Hosoda and Shinkai are shit tier.

I don't even know how kids, Japanese or otherwise, get to like Totoro
Totoro and the Catbus are goddamn creepy

>Whisper of the Heart
This is the only one I can agree with
Kondo was a loss to Ghibli.
Damn.

>Yuasa
>K-drama tier shit movies
>decent tier
lol

>great
They are not great, they are masterpieces

Kiki's is the best Ghibli

This is objective fact, if you argue you are wrong.

eh
Porco Rosso's better.

That's up there for me too. Those two, Wind Rises, Totoro, Whisper of the Heart and Spirited Away are the best ones. (Also read the Nausicaa manga it is god tier) The others just kind of blend into a sea of forgettably okay, with Earthsea being hilarious in how out of place it is.

The love for Whisper of the Heart always felt overblown to me, probably because of the death of its director and its relative obscurity. It's not bad, but it's just so corny and on the nose in every single way, it's unthinkable to me to compare it to Ghibli's best movies.

>it's just so corny and on the nose in every single way
Agree on the corny part
but for some reason the high school parts made me giggle like a kid

i think just about everyone agrees on that. the good takahata ones are kaguya and poroporo. fireflies is the one liked by pretentious assholes

Only the ending is corny, the rest was charming and believable.

I will never ever understand this meme movie and it's diehard fans. It is extremely boring and has no merit to it.

Both OP and ED has folksong status somewhere in nipland now
kids and old men will lynch you for hating it

That's not Spirited Away though.
