I also like the idea of Krista/Ymir being some kind of soul split in two or sisters who led different lives starting from the moment where the pact with the Devil was made. If Ymir alone had been stuck inside the PATHS as soonas she made the deal (which her child form implies since legend says she was still just a girl when she met the Devil), then she wouldn't have been able to live 13 years in the real world and have children. Krista being described as a good girl people love in Historia's book and the latter's facade being equally kind, selfless and self-sacrificial would also fit the idea of Krista letting herself get imprisoned inside the PATHS and enslaved to the future generations of royals for the sake of her people. I'd really love to see it come into play somehow.

I'd say once Zeke "died" his avatar appeared in the paths, that avatar is connected to Zeke in the real world. Isayama made sure to make us know that you can spend an eternity in the paths while in the real world only like one second passed, so that means Zeke in shinganshina has a few seconds (Gabi is still falling from the shooting, Reiner is jobbing, etc) but he can have years and years with Eren in the Paths.
I imagine Zeke's avatar will disappears once he decides to get out of there or dies, but Ymir's avatar can exists there even if the original one died. It took Eren five years to get back his first memories despite his predecessor sharing his blood, and he had triggers to help him every step of the way, namely Historia and his dad's notebooks.
Meanwhile Zeke's predecessor didn't share his blood and aside from the glasses memento he didn't have anything he could've used to help himself access past memories. He wasn't a researcher either so his knowledge came from Xaver rather than any experiment he could have made on himself.

This chapter more than any other so far highlights the themes of advancing that are lost in translation when calling Eren's titan 'The Attack Titan'.

Although considering what the title of the show was translated as, it makes sense to call it that to an extent. It's juts a shame that the weight of Eren's advancing (shingeki) might not be very apparent due to translation.

The only merit of Ymir's storyline is it mirrors Historia's. She tried to be mean, live for herself and even her titan looked like the Devil, but in truth she was the closest to an actual Krista who sacrificed herself for others. While Krista will have a role more like the actual Ymir.
