That was Haifuri, though they failed to stick the landing. Could have been a goofy tournament story like GuP, could have been a serious dramatic story instead of magic hamsters, could have been slice of life on the high seas. Instead it was just a mess of everything with the tone and pacing all over the place. Needed a more solid vision of what they wanted. It's the same reason the KanColle anime was shit.

Kind of hard because even one Destroyer already need loads of characters.
Unless it's something like about a WW2 armed fishing boat and helping main forces scout the submarine and saving people from sinking ships.

There's some bits of the other squadrons on YouTube, but I don't know if they were ever subbed.

It's not the same. I've tried Azur Lane for a couple of months but I couldn't get into the story. The girls are sexy, but they are not "cute". None of them charm me or capture my imagination. That Yandere carrier comes closest because of how in-your-face she is but even then I can't say I actually like her and I can't even remember her name properly. It's Taihou or something but the fact that I'm not even sure shows how forgettable they are.

Kind of. They supplanted Battleships as the primary source of "firepower" even though the latter are much more interesting.

You can just handwave it that most of the components of the ship are now automated. You can reduce the crew down to 5-10 girls like that easily. It won't be pure realism, but Kotobuki and GuP have their fair share of stuff like that to keep things interesting.

Epitome of mobile guns. Absurd amounts of moving firepower.

Yeah, until missiles did everything shells did better. Longer range, more accurate, more firepower and they actually required a lot less space. This meant there was no real reason to concentrate massive amounts of firepower (unlike with shells, where you need a big ship for a big canon that can launch a big shell over big distances).

Also aircraft carriers are hella awesome.

Yeah, but missiles aren't as archaic and awesome as giant shells.
