The whole point of the scavenger hunt was to build up the bonds, but the whole point was ruined when everyone forgot about the normal guy. Even the readers.

What made Medaka Box so great was also the meta narrative. Zenkichi didn't even break top 10 except maybe the first one in popularity polls until his Main Character arc begun and after that he was either second behind Kumagawa or third behind Akune. Kumagawa and Kamome were also incredibly likable characters. I miss it.

Ajimu's buddy can craft custom powers, this is her reaction when Zenkichi tells her what he wants.

Because we're not suppose to know what he's asking for. We get the reveal like 25 chapters later of what Skill he wants made to beat the strongest character known in the series to this point: Medaka.

I read all of Medaka Box to understand this scene because it kept getting posted in one page threads. I was not disappointed.

Yes you can, but the first arc is shit and the second one is Ok, the anime adapts those 2 and ends in the start of the best arc

It's fine. The beginning of the story the anime covers was the shittiest part of the story. The anime ends right when the story gets really really good.

Main cast is composed of ultra-talented superpowered geniuses except for the audience surrogate who is just the normal guy who gets to do some cool shit once every million years.
Eventually an antagonist with meta knowledge of how this stories work shows up and decides to break their group so she introduces a bunch of girls who are also normal people (more or less).
The main cast organizes a scavenger hunt to form bonds with the new group of girls or some shit like that and the first task is to solve a riddle IRRC. The girls do it easily and the rest of the arc is about them overcoming the next tasks and growing closer to the original cast. Once that's over everyone goes back to the place where the first task took place and find the original normal guy still struggling with it.
This whole situation leads him to realize that he no longer has a place in the main cast, since he was only "special" by being the normal guy amongst geniuses and now those girls took his position and are much better at it than he ever was. He loses his shit over this and gets in a nasty argument with the ultra-genius co-protagonist of the story, which causes a fallout between them.
Then he becomes one of the most based characters in the story.

So I gather that the anime adapted the least interesting part of it. I liked it, so I think I'll just watch it again and pick up the manga from there.
