As a 34 years old who watched Orphen on Magic Kids (that's how it was that channel named?) if there is something I remember is that no one cared about the show.
People knew about it because it was one of the few anime airing on TV at the time when the the only source of anime outside it was expensive pirate VHS tapes very few could afford, but almost no one genuinely liked it.

I don't think it's a bad series, but the anime was probably pretty generic for its time. I first watched it a few years back, and I really enjoyed it. It reminded me heavily of other shows from the 90's but had its own twist with who the real antagonist was and how they were dealt with. It was refreshing after watching a bunch of modern, seasonal crap, so maybe that helped me have a better opinion of it when watching.

JNC is releasing the 5th volume in November. They keep putting it on break to assign Steiner to translate other stuff, so it's pretty much going at Yen Press speed.

If your planning to read the official translations, be aware that they've changed most of the names from the English spelling previously used, Cleao to Claiomh for example. The JNC staff openly argue with people on twitter when questioned on it. Everything else is pretty good but the names take some getting used to.

When it was first announced, the editor and such all gave really happy responses. While the writer was literally "Why are they adapting it again? And why now?"

Yeah, when I said it was generic, what I should have said was that it starts off appearing kind of generic high fantasy with its setting, magic, etc., but as the series goes on, it really does come out as its own thing. I really liked the twists it had, especially how fucked up the whole situation was. Even the ending of the first series was weird, but it was done well and was pretty satisfying.
