Casca is back after nearly 20 years lads, discuss what's going to happen to the group dynamic with a female knight in the pack
Berserk Thread
It will be interesting to see if they get to know more of Guts' past and about Griffith from her.
She's not really integrating into the group at the moment, but if she could, I think she'd make a much better swordsmanship instructor for Isidro than Guts does. He's not really the teaching type. I'd also like to see how well she holds up against Serpico, not that he'd ever actually duel her for fun. Stick in the mud.
Lesbian sex with Farnese
Casca can fight, being the famed Band of the Hawk's third strongest swordsman (despite jobbing and needing to be rescued constantly during GA) so I'm sure with some enchanted equipment she can keep up at least as well as Isidro and Serpico regularly do. That said, her greatest contribution would be her ability to form tactics and give commands. In terms of group tactics, formations and leadership she was only behind Griffith. I could see her barking orders at Roderick's sailors or Gedfring's mages and laying siege to monster lairs and stuff like that.
Frankly, if Casca can actually get a handle on her PTSD, I could see her becoming the unofficial leader of the group, assuming they function as a ragtag merc band fighting monsters. Guts is used to taking orders from her, anyway.
In terms of how she'd get along with each person. I'd say protective of Farnese and Schierke, not sure about the rest. She used to be pretty bossy, so it depends on how they respond to that.
Guts is gonna abandon the party and go off on his own again. He can't stand to be around Casca that's afraid even to look at him. So he's probably gonna become Skull Knight 2.0 and try to defeat Griffith/Femto.
It ends with guts killing Femto, but that's actually the Kekaiku as both Skull Knight & Guts actually become part of the God Hand as well. No one said there's only five fingers.
I'm ok with this
But he has no reason to go lone wolf again?
He has no huge reason to stick around with them anymore, either. The whole reason Guts accepted keeping helpers around was because he could not take care of Potato Casca with just him and Puck. Remember, Guts has a voice screaming in his head to ditch them all the time, and it only gets louder when he feels angry and sad. And he still hasn't completely given up on his goal of revenge.
Now Casca is safe, and not in some cave prison all alone either, but in a mystical paradise. And his continued presence is a burden to her right now. So Guts could easily convince himself that Casca is better off without him for the time being. Hunting apostles was already a suicide mission, and after the roar of the Astral World, even moreso. So if Guts cares about his new pals, he would want them to remain with Casca on the safety of the island. Meanwhile he returns to doing what he was before he needed them, the bloody path of vengeance.
A part of him just wants to go lone wolf again. He just needs a good excuse to get around his promise in the cave.
Some points for people who haven't re-read Berserk for a while. Remember:
>Casca settled with Guts because Griffith was unreachable. However she worships Griffith as a god.
>Guts won't leave Casca because he fears she will get raped again. If he ever leaves is because he could potentially hurt her.
>Black swordsman arc Guts is long gone and he will never return.
>With that said, Berserk isn't as edgy and grim as you remember. Since golden arc it becomes more lighthearted with some brutal moments here and there. But it's mostly gags with action scenes.
>There are more ideas besides the idea of evil.
>Elfhelm is part of the astral world
If that means less chestnut Puck, then that's a good thing.
>Guts won't leave Casca because he fears she will get raped again
From a certain point of view, that's not a bad reason TO leave.
And being "part of the astral world" doesn't matter that much anymore. Everywhere is part of the astral world right now. But at least Elfhelm is a nice part I guess.
Puck still has to tag along somehow. Guts can't get rid of him, and Guts won't last long without any heals in his current state. So if anybody gets to follow him it'll be your boy Puck. Schierke can heal too, but I doubt she can do it as well as pixie dust, since Puck still helps each time.
And outside of in-character reasons, Puck has to provide the levity, especially if Guts ditches the whole babysitter brigade.
feels like faggots want guts to lone wolf out of convenience
He is never going to escape farnese, isidro, and schierke as much as you want it.
I hope Guts go lone wolf again, then meets Rickert by his own, gets scolded and then meets with the party long time after.
How much of a time stretch will there be once they leave elf island? a couple of years?
It can't just be Guts and Schierke anyway. If Schierke comes along, Guts has to take Isidro, Farnese and Serpico too. Otherwise there will be no one to protect Schierke when she's chanting spells or when she uses astral projection to 'steer' the berserker armor.
You have been visited by the Roderick chad. Reply with "based" to get god tier battle ship sailing skills.
fuck off
Not really. I like Isidro and Schierke and the others a lot. I'm just thinking of what Guts might do, and making an attempt to bail on them would hardly be out of character. He has a good excuse this time. I'm not saying it has to work.
Fag
>Skull Knight & Guts actually become part of the God Hand
This is awful.
I'm not the one fishing for (You)s without content. So yeah, I may be a fag, but I refuse to enjoy and engage in contentlessposting.
Thanks for the (you)s fag
At this point you're doing it wrong by justifying groups of characters by narrative convenience and not by their motivations. I don't see why Puck would want to leave Elfhelm in this particular situation, maybe if he's still more attached to Guts and the behelit than to the rest. We also have to consider SK's motivations now that he's currently in Elfhelm.
I really hope he sticks around, and the fairies convert the Sea Horse into an airship that can traverse the Dragon Lines as well as sail the sea. I want world traveling Fantasia adventures. I want to see what the other Godhand are up to in the far flung areas of the world beyond Femto's sphere of influence.
He's the best thing to happen to berserk in a while. He's chad and has the skills to back it up. It's good that he's not a sword fighter because he would never be able to compete with guts, but now that we seen his ship skills it cements him in his own lane. Serpico still a fag somehow even after getting rekt by guts.
>NTR
DROPPED
>and not by their motivations
I acknowledge Guts' motivation, and we're primarily talking about what Guts might try to do: , >I don't see why Puck would want to leave Elfhelm
He left in the first place because he was bored. If Guts tries to bail, I could see Puck choosing to follow him rather than stick around playing with the kids, much like he did after Lost Children Chapter. I know he gets along great with Isidro, and I could see him hesitating, but I think he'd choose to stick with Guts even if it's alone.
Again assuming that Guts tries to slip away somehow (I'm not even sure how he would at the moment)
>I could see Puck choosing to follow him rather than stick around playing with the kids
I don't see Ishidro not following Guts either, maybe and only maybe if Caska promises to train him.
I don't see anyone just letting him leave. Not Isidro, definitely not Schierke who sees it as her destiny to follow Guts, not Farnese who looks up to Guts and credits him with her awakening, not even Casca if she could even try to help it.
But if Guts really is going to run off, he won't be asking them first. He'll just slink off when he thinks no one is looking. And you can fault me for plot convenience but I think if Miura is going to have anyone notice in time, it'll be Puck.
But how would he even leave Skellig? Maybe Skull Knight will provide an out.
Whatever Guts decides to do aside though, the more interesting development is that we know Moonboy is on the way to mama and papa, since the last thing we saw Griffith do was transform and fly off. Casca seemed aware at the Hill of Swords that Griffith's new body contained her baby. If she sees Moonboy while she can reason, will she remember that feeling she got back then? And if she puts two and two together, what then?
I was referring mostly about this quotes:
>Guts won't last long without any heals in his current state. So if anybody gets to follow him it'll be your boy Puck.
And
>Guts has to take Isidro, Farnese and Serpico too. Otherwise there will be no one to protect Schierke
When from a writers perspective you should ask yourself what Puck, Schierke, Isidro, Farnese and Serpico would want, instead of thinking it in terms of how useful they would be to Guts.
Besides, makes a good point for Guts not wanting to be accompanied, and in the event he has to leave Casca for her to function properly he would prefer most of the group to stay with her.
based
I wonder if we'll get the next chapter before 2020.
I'm just thinking of how things have worked so far. I understand it can just be written differently, but those issues would certainly need to be addressed. And one way to solve those issues is just have Guts succeed in escaping.
DIGITS
We'll get one at the end of this month.
Now those are questions worth my time. Nice digits too.
this
Roderick is 2chad4me. If this is the old Berserk, this guy would have dozens of skeletons in his closet
isn't that the 30th anniversary?
I don't know. All the more reason if it is, though.
The reuinion was even more boring than I could have imagined.
I miss the old puck. I don't mind chestnut puck but ever since he fused with Isidro's head he isn't a character anymore.
Was this the edgiest moment in the manga?
Is he really supposed to be a teenager? I thought he would be 12 at most.
If Guts does take off somehow, I hope he winds up running into Silat again. I've been hoping that he and Silat would come to an accord since at least the end of Retribution, if not his brief appearance in the Golden Age. Plus, Rickert is with Silat too. And Daiba, I guess.
Heck no. Not even close. That isn't even the edgiest panel with Wyald.
That would be this one.
I didn't mean the panel specifically, but the whole sequence in general. I don't know, it was just pretty disturbing my first read, although I did read it when I was a teenager and not as desensitized as I am now. I can't really think of anything that comes close to it except maybe the torture scenes in conviction or Serpico burning his mom.
But I don't even think that's the edgiest scene in the entire manga.
The torture scenes in conviction are pretty grim. Even more grim I think was the cannibal baby stew in the hallucinogenic orgy cave. Thinking about it, in terms of very edgy sequences, the ones I'd rank high would be: Guts losing himself and grinning while hacking a confused little ghost girl in half (pictured) just for that setup; adult attack (a mutated child violently raping another to death); the parade of women impregnated through a systematic campaign of mass rape being fed into an artificial womb made of sewed together apostles to make a mutant demon rape baby death army; the birth/death scene in the troll rape den; and what I might personally say is the single edgiest scene, Guts imagining ripping a retarded helpless Casca apart with his fucking teeth. He didn't actually do it, but that imagery was pretty visceral, especially given the characters involved.
That's off the top of my head. Wyald was fun because he obviously got off on it, but whew. Some of these scenes get really dark.
Casca using the Behelit to sacrifice Farnie and gain power to kill Griffith for revenge
>Black Swordsman Guts is long gone and will never return
Wouldn't say never; there's going to be a point where Casca is either kidnapped or Guts thinks she's dead and the rampage is coming back
All the apostles get off on it to a certain degree. Besides the Neo Hawks, it seems. They're practically choir boys. And it's weird, because even the Egg who was the (relatively) nicest apostle before they showed up was a prolific serial killer who tore apart his victims and used their remains to create bizarre religious iconography. Ed Gein style.
Supposedly even the backstory for how Grunbeld became an apostle deviates sharply from the norm we've seen so far. Miura didn't write it, but was involved(?), so I'm not sure if it's supposed to be canon or not.
Guts origin story was pretty edgy; born from a dead woman hanging from a tree. Plus his encounter with pic related
Gay manga dropped
Yup, his entire childhood was just tragic. Here's another rather edgy Guts scene. He goes on to tell her that maybe if she kills herself she can go to hell like mommy and daddy.
I like both this and the lighthearted gag stuff. Personally, I think if the plot ever gets moving again, there's a good chance we could return to the really bleak scenes and material. Just a hunch. Assuming Miura can ever start keeping a schedule again.
Why would it? She sucks. Couldn't even handle normal dudes back in GA, now there's monsters and demons everywhere. How much magic would she need to be pumped full of to be even a little relevant beyond being Gut's now-sane morality pet?
Less than Isidro, apparently. She soundly handed him his ass, and he's made himself useful on a regular basis.
>Couldn't even handle normal dudes back in GA
She was the best goddamn fighter in the Band of the Hawk before Guts showed up.
She only lost to the guy with the trident because of her period.
It would be hilarious if she gets that earth spirit axe.
It's too bad by the time she got a rematch with Adon he'd gone full comic relief joke villain. Slightly robbed her of her one major triumph against a named adversary, making him a goofy joke beforehand. Other than that, all she had was dispatching randos and needing to get rescued the moment anyone noteworthy glanced in her direction.
Her being the Hawks' most capable swordarm barring Griffith and later Guts was sadly tell-don't-show back then. Berserk is my favorite book, but that's one of the few complaints I have about it. At least it showed her skill as a general in a satisfying way.
Remind me what was the wolfs deal. Is it guts own source of demonic power?
Daily reminder that berserk manga is still going after 30 years and the author will fucking die never finishing it. In fact i have read this 20 years ago and i feel old as fucking shit.
It's just an internal manifestation of Gut's rage and maliciousness, not a literal demon. The chains represent Guts keeping his composure and not chimping out, but he has his limits and eventually goes Berserkā¢.
Maybe no ending is better than a shitty ending.
Guts created the beast, on accident. It's part of Guts' psyche. Guts' own hatred rage and fear, given malevolent will within the space of his ego.
Think of it like dissociative identity disorder, except magic, because Guts has spent so much time wading hip deep in astral fuckery, where one's thoughts can take form and influence reality (Schierke's words, roughly). They were in sync following the Eclipse during the Black Swordsman arc, but following the Lost Children Chapter Guts and his "black flame" as he calls it began to pull in different directions. To the point where the black flame became its own thing inside of Guts, and its will overcomes Guts and breaks into the physical world using the berserker armor.
More or less, it's all that's left of full-edge Black Swordsman Guts, in doggie form (Guts has been called a "mad dog" before, and further back associated himself with Gambino's dog whom he actually showed affection to) evolved into a split personality villain that just wants Guts to go on an endless killing spree until he dies.
>Schierke's words, roughly
Found that quicker than I thought. She goes on to muse about how the Dragonslayer is soaked in bogeyman ichor and all that, but I always found this particular line of interest in regards to the Beast of Darkness.
fking best explanation of the beast i ever read.
Y-You wouldn't lie to me about something like that, would you?
They say the power of belief is the strongest magic.
you forgot to mention the part where we all also die before this shit gets an ending
>I think she'd make a much better swordsmanship instructor for Isidro than Guts does. He's not really the teaching type.
When was the last time he actually tought Isidro anything?
I doubt we will ever go back to Black Swordsman arc edginess. That was Guts at his absolute lowest. But since then he has opened up a lot and accepted people into his life again. And his last talk with Godo before he died made it clear to him that endulging in this self-destructive behaviour will eventually break him.
What do you guys think about the idea of Berserk's story just kinda fizzling out from here on? As in, Guts and Griffith never meeting again, as they both sit in their utopias at opposite ends of the world, and Guts giving up on his revenge.
I think there is _some_merit to it, as it would currently fit neatly into Gut's character arc, but there are too many loose ends for this to happen (Skull Knight, Rickert, the loli medium, etc.)
I should be glad, but I feel fucking nothing at this point. I stopped giving a fuck about Berserk.
It took this faggot hack so long that I stopped caring what happens in what was once my favourite manga.
Also that dilaogue is fucking disgusting. The meme really became reality.
She can become the role she was always pre-destined for before Miura made the mistake of sloppily putting her with Guts for "drama"; the sidebitch. Guts, even with Casca in his immediate presence, couldn't stop ogling Griffith's naked ass in his mind.
Guts's been helping Isidro practice regularly since at least around troll extermination arc by sparring with him. Isidro complains to Casca that dueling Guts is only helping him get experience fighting giants, whereas she's closer to normal size.
Guts says during their spar before Enoch that he can help Isidro ditch some of his bad habits but their fighting styles aren't compatible, so Guts can't give him any specific training or advice. He's more a "stay alive and figure it out yourself" kind of master.
So when is Puck sacrificing the rpg party to become fairy king?
Threadly reminder that the ending of Berserk was leaked years ago.
Then why didn't you post it?
What if Casca's healing took 20 years (irl), because that's how long it would take to get over trauma in real life and Miura wanted us to experience that?
I wouldn't expect her to be better than Serpico after being out of practice for so long and being a jobber before.
Casca is probably going to just under Guts level is swordmenship to compensate for her not having a magical weapon
Well meme'd
His mentality was more along these lines.
cute feet
>griffith formally apologizes
>everyone forgives him but Guts is still seething
>nobody talks to him anymore because he's a resenful cunt who can't leave old things in the past
man, what a cunt
based
Right, he can't be trusted.
Quiz question: how many dicks does Guts hack off over the course of the manga?
Based
>Adon he'd gone full comic relief joke villain
For shame. I liked his design.
lol not even close
there was that pagan ritual where they cooked babies and had an orgy
Do guys like these count? If so, a lot
I think Skeletonbro is gonna take Guts on a trip to undo his fuckup while they leave Casca considering she can't even look at him without flipping her shit
Those are just mushroom people.
So Skull Knight is almost definitely Gaiseric, right? The angels that beat him were the Godhand, and they're trying to lure everyone to Falconia so they can do Eclipse pt 2
>Eclipse pt 2
You mean, Eclipse pt 3. Or 4 at this point?
