They realized they screwed up and now they're adding missing Yuuri scenes, aren't they? Making an entire movie about one single character, no matter if the most popular out of the main three, is extremely dumb when you know what led YOI to its success was mostly the relationship between MC and his coach, and if you know the movie is taking years to come out.
I wonder if the story ends up being convoluted and messy now that they're adding stuff. It's nice that they want to fix it for the fans, but I'd rather watch a well written movie about just Victor than a shitty one about many characters.

If they are just adjusting the original storyboard and adding Yuuri (and maybe Yurio) scenes then it'll be fine I guess. Maybe they were authorized to stretch the length of the movie. This this just speculation anyway. We will never know what really is going on.

I am just a casual so I am going to watch it when it comes out. It was enjoyable but they should have strike when the iron was hot. It certainly has a royal fanbase but how big is it to keep it up? I am sure people will still go around and watch it but I am not expecting the same reactions as when the anime was airing.

People try to keep their expectations low about Ice Adolescence, but the truth is everyone wants the final product to be worth of all the years of waiting, even if MAPPA can't obviously fulfill every single fan's need. If the result doesn't live up to the hype I can see even more people dropping the show for good. Not straight up making a season 2 was a mistake.

Yes, I think keeping expectations low is the best for the loyal fanbase at least. There were production issues for sure and other stuff that will never see the public light which didn't allow for a S2 shortly after.
I am not very familiar with Narita's works but I think he usually tends to like vanilla stuff or rather something that is intense but in a good way. Shizaya was intense + hatred + character designs helped the fujo crowd but didn't make Narita consider it as something more.
