The OP is fucking amazing.

The church basement scene, probably Shirou's single most important character moment in Fate route, was butchered. Only the music was good, and even then the sound direction was often bad. Just listen to the music during the Shirou-Rin school fight, it doesn't fit at all.

If it could look as good as it did that episode for the rest of the series then it would probably be my favorite adaptation of FSN by virtue of being closer to the original artstyle/atmosphere

Deen had better character designs. It's the animation that makes them look bad.

The thing is, they barely stay true to the character sheet.

The OST, voice acting, faithful artstyle. Animation was shit but if that was the price to pay for it's existence then I'm OK with it.

They tried to cram every route into the show but it encompasses a couple of episodes at most, like the hamfisted Caster fight. Everything else is just pure Fate route and it isn't any worse adapted than ufo-UBW or ufo-HF.

That second opening is God tier.

UFO went downhill after KnK. Fate/Zero still had a genuine effort put in but everything after that just became experiments for their new tech and nothing more. Paradox Spiral and the two episodes about Kiritsugu's past get me every time because they're so well directed. Despite loving the VN, nothing in UFO's UBW or HF has given me the same vibes so far.

KnK was boring as fuck, and Kiritsugu was the worst thing about Zero

I remember the popular opinion a few years ago being essentially "DEEN shit, Ufotable good".

It probably has to do with a combination of contrarian behavior towards the more modern fate stuff (justified or not) and the dwindling number of people here who have actually seen the Deen version to contest any praise, but honestly if all this does is trick a few fags into watching a shitty adaption I don't really mind. The VN version is boring as fuck, and would be as forgettable as Breach if not for adaptations covering and improving it. The beginning is way too simple to loop for as long as it does before the melody kicks in. Kenji's instruments and chanting add a lot to it.

It's really only supposed to play in short bursts and it's meant to be a reflection of the power and majesty of Excalibur. Kawai's version is way too downplayed and completely fails to capture the essence of "THIS IS A GIANT LASER THAT CAN ATOMIZE MOUNTAINS".
