Most stories have a main character who you follow because it is that characters story, not because they cant write other characters.
Look at all the people who have published more than one book that is not bound to the same franchise, they have written stories about different characters and their plots.

He got a little character development during 1 arc and you all praise it like hes Jesus. Most shonen protagonists develop (except fairy tails Natsu, but that is by far the worst piece of shit), look at Naruto.
Start of as a bullied kid who just do pranks, and develop into a teen that takes responsibility. Both characters did grow, and both are pretty mediocre in development if we compare them to anything not written for kids/young teens.
