What I'll always love about Shana is her Tsundere qualities made good sense for the work. She has never had any friends because she was trained as a warrior and never really spent more time then needed traveling. So she has emotional problems early on that even out relatively quickly as she gets more used to normal life.
Yujji wasn't just a harem protag. He actually tried to do things to fix the problems he could see. Added with his rather thoughtful personality and he could come off as a dick sometimes and could in the novels go unnervingly far in his actions.
For such an old work it really still does impress me with how a lot of thought was actually put into why the Tsundere couple works out and how all the characters flaws affect them.

Yeah that scene was great. She basically told him she was going to fuck him over and he would never see Shana again. His response was to wipe his sword out and impale her though the torso and cause Shana to flip out from seeing him almost kill her mother figure. They really weakened his character by not showing all the times he showed he could go too far. Without that 3rd season felt more jarring because people weren't used to the idea he was someone who was willing to go really far in his goals.
