Technically not entirely true, Tanjiro awakened the mark against Gyuutarou, the very next arc has Zentisu and Inosuke not fight alongside Tanjiro, right after that all Pillars were informed of how to awaken the Mark and since they are seen as the strongest hunters Gotouge had to make them awaken it first otherwise it would make the Pillars not that far away in terms of power compared to Zenitsu and Inosuke, Tanjiro gets a pass since he is the protagonist and has a special Breath no one currently has.

Since Zenitsu, Inosuke and Kanao have had their big fight, now going for an even greater challenge wouldn't make them awakening the Mark something unlikely.

I don't know but if ever there's a series that just screams nobody is going to give a fucking shit about anymore in 5-6 weeks (or about the extent for which it's been trendy anyway) it's this one. Not even trying to be a dick, but like considering the majority of it's support in Japan is from Fujoshi who are notorious for moving from franchise to franchise on a whim and that outside of Japan (and even within) it's getting most it's buzz from flashy action junkies and social media band wagoners it's just kind of destined for it kind of like Attack on Titan after it's first season only to a much much greater extent.

Also there's the fact that nowhere near as many people were talking about it before the infamous episode 19 and almost all the buzz for it has been concentrated into the final 3 minutes of that episode and to a much lesser extent the ones after, whatever show in Fall is the first to have the flashiest action sequence with an insert song and/or appeal to fujoshi is kind of destined to inherit it's most supportive audience. Fujos will probably pile onto Haikyuu Season 4 in Winter anyway.

I kind of feel like most of the original readership for this franchise is plenty okay with losing a sizeable chunk of the fujos and band wagoners though.

3rd disc will probably sell 10K as well if not necessarily 1st week since like Vols 1 and 2 it also has an event ticket to meet popular VA's and you have to buy 2&3 together to get that one. After that one though is anyone's guess.

Disc 4 will be the first to not have an event ticket and just include the standard benefits (No event tickets, no soundtrack stuff from a popular composer etc.) and the first one to release after the show has ended and into the Fall season so I'm pretty skeptical about it matching the sales of the first 3 volumes. I think it almost entirely depends on how much the fujos are still willing to buy the DVD's (pretty much the entire reason it was a first week 10K seller) and the storefront sales without the whole get meet Natsuki Hanae event ticket thing.

I also kind of expect Symphogear XV to be a 10K seller at least with Vol 1 and probably the only one from Summer if it is. It's been doing really well on Amazon preorders almost all season, had high initial ranking when it got listed and still has a month to go before release even. It has popular VA's as well and is basically an idol show with action sequences and insert songs which is apparently the quickest way to popularity nowadays. If they were to add any sort of event ticket in the next month with a cast that includes Nana Mizuki, Yuki Aoi, Ai Kayano, Yoshini Nanjo and Inori Minase among others and make it a concert that'd 100% seal it as a 10K+ seller.

I think Gyokko still has something to do though. In an earlier chapter, it was revealed that he could stay alive without his head. Plus, after the Fourth Moon died, who was it that reported to Muzan that Nezuko could survive the sun and the location of the Demon Slayers's headquarters? We know that UM 4 & 6 have been replaced but we nothing about UM5. I think his body escaped from aftermath of his fight because Muchiro was in a hurry to get to Tanjiro and give him the ancient sword. I also think that Muzan gave him a special goal of finding Nezuko. I mean his design is so
uniquely grotesque(in a cool demonic way) that it would be a shame not to use him in the future. My final evidence for my thoughts is that there all those demon slayer veterans guarding Nezuko. I believe that Gyokko may end up fighting them all and possibly winning to make the plot more dramatic. Bottom line: I think UM5 is still alive and he will play a part in getting Nezuko to Muzan.

It's discs aren't being marketed like your standard daytime Shonen Jump adaptation that just gets shit out onto DVD in a Box Set with just the episodes. It's getting the full Sony benefits package treatment and picked up a ton of Fujo support.

I mean we've seen before how much getting the fujos full undivided attention can inflate a franchises sales numbers. We've also seen how fast and how hard they can disappear in a season or two with Attack on Titan, Jojo's Bizarre Adventure etc. Thing is they never tend to give a fuck about the content itself even if those franchises obviously have fans besides them, they tend to just be there for the buzz and effeminate dudes until the next more immediate example flares up at which point they start buying up all the shit for that thing.

The series is alright for a Shonen Jump one, but the main reason it's selling as well is it is at least at the moment is because fujos are currently going absolutely nuts for Tanjiro and Zenitsu. That and they basically cast every popular voice actor in existence even if it's just for a bit role (gotta incentivize them event tickets), put Yuki Kajiura on the soundtrack and made the OST an extra on Vol 1, and had their typically most bank artist LiSA (who is huge with teens in Japan at the moment) do the opening even though she doesn't really fit the whole Shonen Jump vibe....but mainly the fujos. Like I'd be shocked if it wasn't a seller.

I mean like it's always been there as a Shonen Jump series before Aniplex (and to
a lesser extent ufoTABLE and Shueisha) worked their hype machine to inflate it's popularity with the anime adaptation so it doesn't surprise me that it was already being translated.

It still gets me just how easy it seems to be these days though to get something to go viral for Aniplex nowadays though. Like you don't even necessarily need a mega hit series to begin with even if it's usually where they like to start. One with a modest profile and all the right starting pieces (Zenitsu and Nezuko being the main marketable characters here) will suffice. Then just slap Kajiura or Sawano onto the soundtrack, pay every popular VA to be in it, add tons of benefits to the Blu-Ray packages, air it on Saturday night at 12AM and go throttle on the social media marketing and retweet campaigns while timing your key episodes for maximum impact around release dates and you're pretty much golden. At worst you're probably going to end up with a top 3 most popular show of a given season, but it'll probably just be the flat out most popular thing by a long shot due to lack of marketing competition and Crunchyroll and now Funimation (which Sony bought last year) usually plugging it in the West as well.

There's a reason they keep picking series with the intent to go after Fujoshi and/or any notably hardcore fandom and are trying to monopolize and buy exclusive contract for anything and anyone that are proven selling brands too. I'm legit surprised they haven't tried to get the rights to make a Nier Automata anime already considering they already seem to have struck some sort of rights deal with Square Enix for various other things.

It wasn't marketing itself as a mecha series anyway so that's hardly surprising, it was marketing itself as a teen melodrama and waifu war show first and foremost. If it was trying to be like an actually good mecha sci-fi series where the plot and characters actually went somewhere and mattered, but didn't have a sexy generally seen naked waifu character for people to draw fan of and waifufag and shitpost over like say Gundam The Origin nobody would have paid any attention too it outside of Japan and Crunchyroll and various influencers certainly wouldn't have shilled the shit out of it.

It's starting to look now like nothing is ever going to compete with Gundam ever again in the sci-fi mecha anime and merchandising sphere which much as I usually like Gundam kind of sucks. Like it's gotta be roughly 90% or more of the entire market for mecha sci-fi content all on it's own now. Every single attempt to compete with it no matter how much money and trendy names Bandai or Aniplex or whoever tries to throw at the project never seems to gain any real traction anymore and the producers usually just give up part way through and start trying to market waifus instead. And sorry I don't count Western weebs shitposting over a sad backstory episode that didn't actually matter and was clearly their to boost it's popularity at the start of the 2nd cour along with going mental over 02 (who already barely anybody seems to care about anymore) and threatening to kill the VA of the blue hair chick nobody ever really cared about even while it was airing counts as real traction.

I have a hard time respecting a lot of fan artists nowadays even if their artwork is good cause they all just seem to just bandwagon onto whatever is currently trendy on social media to try to get it retweeting within as many circles as possible. It's like their artwork is technically good and detailed but they have zero ambition and inspiration of their own, whatever will probably get the most retweets and likes that's what they draw.

Entirely depends on if the fujos move onto something else or not by the time it comes out and if it's anywhere near as trendy still in 2-3 years which is likely the earliest we'd see another season. The way hype cycles and momentum work now and how quickly stuff can gain it or lose it to other things on social media in a matter of months or even weeks it's really hard to say. A lot of these people seem to be around for the hype cycle itself so I don't know how much it actually matters whatever content is coming in the future or not.

Oddly enough Makomo isn't mentioned in Tomioka's backstory though, even if Tomioka wasn't close to her she would get a cameo to properly flesh out Sabito's ordeal, so I don't think Makomo is from the same period. Makomo could have befriended Sabito as spirits.

Brainlet here, so it seems early on and quite far in to the manga that the breaths visual effects on their attacks are just that - visual only, to slice up the illustration and not literal.

However later on when Muichirou is fighting, he produces literal mist with his style, and at the very least Zenitsu produces thunderclaps and electricity.

Same reason there's a lot of high quality iDOLM@STER, Granblue Fantasy, Azur Lane, Love Live, Girls Frontline and Fire Emblem fanart I'd imagine. I expect the Kimetsu no Yaiba fanart (which has an anime that is basically designed to look like mobile game character art in a way that the original manga most certainly does not) to more or less stall out once the anime ends and they're all probably band-wagoning back on to drawing stuff for the upcoming, GBF, Azur Lane and Fate/GO adaptations. Hell the next season even has some non gacha game shows with characters that can almost compete with mobile game shit like SAO, BnHA and Psycho pass as well as some Fujo sport shows, but really I expect like 80% of all fanart that gets drawn to be the gacha show adaptations......so business as usual.

Not multiple times, literally twice in the series so far, the first time when Zenitsu fights the spider brother, the second when Zenitsu helps Nezuko in the Infinity Train, and at that is never confirmed as actual lightning.

I can't even imagine what anime or Japanese media would look like nowadays without social media, but probably vastly different and a whole lot less white noise commentary, shitposting and bad to medicore shows being popular cause of some meme they sparked in one episode at just the right time to go viral. To say that social medias existence completely reinvented how the stuff gets made and how the fanbase thinks, talks, comments and acts would be something you don't see a whole lot of nowadays in it's community....an understatement.

It's a stylistic choice, go ask Wani why that is what it is. Zenitsu moves faster than a bullet and Pillars have physical strenght to push boulders that weight hundreds of tons.

Ideally just draw what they legitimately want to without concern for how many likes or retweets it's going to get on social media. Like it's almost kind of sad that genuinely good artists that could be drawing any number of different things will only ever draw fanart of trendy waifu and husbando characters now. Again as much as there are more of them than ever now and fanart is arguably of technically higher quality than it's ever been it all kind of basically looks the same too.

I don't really count that Creayus guy as a counterexample though because even though he just draws C.C waifu stuff after 10+ years of it now essentially unbroken it's pretty clear it's because it's what he really truly wants to draw and finds inspiration from.

Know your market, sure not ALL of them are doing for rep points, but there are many works that are made solely for recgonition points, always doing what you want may not get you a following, like at Comikets artists will be driven to draw for a property that's currently hot, not just stuff they actually like.

Tapioka not mentioning her is weird but it could be explained: They were probably all of them student under urokodaki, he fought hands and got almost killed by hands, then he was saved by Sabito and passed out. When he waked up he saw only Sabito corpse but not Makomo, and tought he she was killed by another demon but Sabito died protecting him.

There's no need for her to be mentioned or some story made up because they were never said to live at the same time much less take the same test

That only works for Tomkioka's point of view, but that the flashback is meant for the all-seeing reader, who should have gotten a word on Makomo if she was part of Sabito and Tomioka's generation.

Regardless yeah I haven't seen in depth discussions of people talking about actual content and things that happen in shows in years and it feels like shows are just being made for the social media audience nowadays anyway judging by how the average one that isn't an adaptation of an existing source can barely demonstrate a coherent narrative week to week anymore. It's always either what you say or people being butthurt assholes who can't handle anybody that doesn't agree with their largely unfounded opinions on what is good or not.

It's not like I don't hot anime chicks with popular waifu traits or whatever, but like fuck they're literally in every show nowadays so I don't see that much point in making noise about them so much as discussing the things that may or may not set them apart and their arcs. People just seem to shy away from that conversation now anyway probably because they'll just get trolled about having shit taste, but if they start a circlejerk about a waifu and post erotic fanart there's at least a chance somebody might give them some form of approval and what more could matter on the internet than the token approval of complete strangers.

End result is just a whole lot of noise, where there's more shows, viewers and content than ever before, but all anybody cares about is whatever is flashy and hyped up (so probably whatever is in the same big budget Aniplex time slot Kimetsu is in) and almost nobody has anything to add to the conversation besides safe commentary like "10/10, I liked the music, x character looked hawt."

Drawing popular things is a good way to promote yourself as an artist though if you want to make somewhat of a name for yourself. I think it’s fine as long as you can tell the artist put actual heart and effort into the work.

Yeah that. I distinctly remember there being a lot more variety in what people drew or at least posted to Danbooru 5 or so years ago. It's been the same shit every day for years now though in Touhou, Kantai Collection, Granblue Fantasy, and recently Fate/GO, Girls Frontline and Azur Lane. Occasionally you get some trendy seasonal shit or meme that breaks out for a bit, usually exclusively from an Aniplex viral marketed show or some Nintendo thing with waifus like Fire Emblem, Pokemon or Xenoblade, but anything else is lucky if it gets even a few hundred entries nowadays. Like even something like Quintessential Quintuplets getting as much fanart as it does including after the anime ended feels like a breath of fresh air and mind blowing in terms of material even if I don't give two fucks about the shows or characters because at least it's not just another gacha thing or whatever some bigshot company like Sony or Nintendo is plugging.

It gets really fucking boring seeing the same characters you don't even necessarily like or even want to fap too over and over again day after day year after year in varying levels of quality and that you know are only being drawn, upvoted and circulated because of social game trends or because a large producer is commissioning it. So much so that I've even added filters and plugins to try to thin some of it out on the interface.

Speaking of this show and it's fanart, but is it me or does it's pixiv entry rankings make no fucking sense like a lot of things with this shows apparent overnight popularity. Like you go into the daily rankings and it's all over them then you click on them and they have like 3 digit views and favorites yet are somehow ranked higher in the daily rankings list than stuff that has 4 or even 5 digit views and was posted later. Like there's almost nothing about this shows apparent explosion in popularity online that makes sense to me even if I'm used to shows in it's Aniplex sponsored time slot suddenly apparently being massively popular out of nowhere and that's just one example.

Like it just doesn't feel real, even more so than usual for these things. It was reasonably popular show before, it is a Shonen Jump show by a popular anime studio and the biggest producer in anime nowadays, but ever since episode 19 went viral, which didn't even seem all that special and mostly just had an insert song at the end it's like it's being artificially signal boosted somehow and being made to appear more popular and trendy than it really is right as it's disks are starting to go on sale and a new manga volume came out. Like I know it sounds paranoid but I don't know man. It doesn't help that the recent episodes have been Bog Standard Shonen Jump fare that have clearly seen a fraction of the buzz episode 19 which aired almost a month ago did.

Let me put it this way, with how trendy and popular it looks on social media right now you'd think it's stated manga boost and disc sales which are already pretty good would be about 3 times as much.
