Whats the weirdest format you've ever received anime in?
Back in 1999 or 2000 I received a full copy of Neon Genesis Evangelion in some weird ass format that as far as I could tell only played in some "TV player" video player software. I think the format might've had TV in the name too. These were very small video files that played on a pentium 1. Resolution was insanely small in todays terms, something like under 320x240. Has anyone else encountered these files?
Was it a Disc? There was this thing called "video CD" that was popular in china.
Logan Martin
It was a disc but there were files on it. The whole thing fit on a few discs though, don't video CDs only contain an hour or so?
Henry Russell
You don't happen to still have the files on you, do you?
Justin Allen
I VAGUELY remember receiving episodes of record of loddoss war on CDs that would only play in something like real player or quicktime back in the 90s. I think manga entertainment released a few shows this way. They were officially liscensed & only played in real player or quicktime on your computer.

I wish, that'd be amazing

I vaguely recall something similar I remember a store owned by an old Chinese couple sold Inuyasha disks but you had to buy proprietary software to actually view it
Jack Wilson
These two sound the most like them. Definitely had to watch Eva in a super goofy format. I wish I hadn't lost the files.
Jack Perez
Sounds like VCD to me. I miss the old days of shitty quality video in shitty formats. There was something magical about it all.
Ian Lewis
PAL BetaCam. I don't have a clue how I ended up with that. Pic related is not a format, per se, but it certainly was a bit unusual.
Man, UMD was cool for the time. Somehow shitbags still scratched up the discs though...

I remember being blown away at the quality of umd video when I first saw it. Really blew the competition out of the water at the time. I think the reason so many got scratched was because people instinctively tried to "open" the umd case to get the disk out when they first saw one I know I did.

user, that was it. That lead me to finding Viv TV and an example of an Eva episode. I owe you buddy. From the deepest part of my heart, thank you.
