So I just finished watching this after reading the VN route. I think ufotable did a decent job on Shirou's mentality (though, I'm not a "muh inner monologues" type of guy, but IMO they should have included his thoughts during the date in EP12, since it shows his Survivor's Guilt). OST was fire with Last Stardust, Brave Shine and Emiya, but I'm sad that we didn't get the Ever Present Feeling during the confession scene in EP13. I also liked the anime original scenes and changes from the VN. Whole thing is a 9.5/10 from me. Would be a 10 if they included those 2 things I mentioned and Fuji's shitty omlette scene. But overall, I think it was a great adaptation. Now tell me why my opinion is wrong.
Also, a few questions: Why did Avalon seemed to stop working when Caster became Saber's Master, but started to work again when Rin took her? I still kinda don't get what happened to Shirou. He knows that his ideal is stupid, but still decides to go after it. Is he still going to end up as Archer? Which days does each Heaven's Feel movie cover?
Forgot to also include LiSA's This Illusion cover in the list of great OSTs.

>Which days does each Heaven's Feel movie cover? Movie 1: Day 1-8 Movie 2: Day 9-14
Sebastian Roberts
>they should have included his thoughts during the date in EP12 inner monologues don't work in anime, it bogs down the scene. For example, the rain scene in lost butterfly was so bad and slow because of Shirou rambling on about Wormslut while the directing was showing time had slowed down which was really awful
Dominic Johnson
>inner monologues don't work in anime, it bogs down the scene I agree most of the time, but this wasn't a long monologue. He basically said something along the lines of "Why am I having fun? I don't deserve this" it'd take like 20 seconds and they could place it during the ride on the bus, before Rin started nagging him.
Brody Gomez
One more thing, I got disappointed by the fact that Shirou and Rin didn't kiss at the end of EP25.
Jace Nguyen
Best Fate route imo. As good and hype as HF is (the fights in movie 3 will probably be the best in all of Stay Night) the writing also abuses of tragic tropes and the plot can be a bit dragging in the middle of the story.
UBW on the other hand has a better pacing and a more balanced plot overall. Also the romance isn't a plot device like in the other two routes, hence why it doesn't feel forced (I still love Saber tho).
Christopher Powell
>the fact that Shirou and Rin didn't kiss at the end of EP25. This bothered me a lot too. They were way too chaste. In fact, did Shirou and Saber kiss in Deen/Stay Night?
Asher Hernandez
My biggest problem is with the atmosphere. As much UBW might be the most heroic of the three routes, the VN has always a mysterious, brooding, dangerous feeling that the anime lacked. Especially after the first episodes. Also there is something wrong about pacing/directing; not felt like it had any weight to it. Maybe it's indeed the lack of inner monologue.
Matthew Diaz
Yes
Nathan Watson
Yes but it sort of pans away.
Daniel Harris
I think the pacing was fine, but I thought the 1st cour would end with Archer's betrayal and confession scene. Would be a nice way to finish a season imo. But I don't mind how they did it, especially with This Illusion cover by LiSA.
Benjamin Ortiz
>In fact, did Shirou and Saber kiss in Deen/Stay Night? Not only Saber but Rin too.
>I think ufotable did a decent job on Shirou's mentality (though, I'm not a "muh inner monologues" type of guy, but IMO they should have included his thoughts during the date in EP12, since it shows his Survivor's Guilt).
I think the VN was a lot better. ————No. That's not it. The VN really wastes your time with inner monologue, among other things.
"Ha, ha… Ah… Ha…" Nasu is a hack, and Ufotable did his own story far better justice than he ever did.
"—————" ––––—But. It's only natural. They did skip over a few important things.
Daniel Fisher
>———— You are the autist who made a thread the other day, aren't you? Why it's so hard to understand that ———— are the equivalent of '...' ?
Mason Kelly
That sounds entertaining. I'll have to see if I can find an archive.
But no, I'm just sharing my thoughts in the style of Nasu. If he overuses this shit that often, even by Japanese standards, then naturally more than one person is going to notice and make fun of it.
Jayden Perry
Yeah, fuck Nasu.
Daniel Ward
Man when that song started playing...
Only thing missing in that OST was a remix of Ever Present Feeling
Don't forget >Can't be helped Also, I think that dentists in that universe do quite well, as everyone seems to grit their teeth all the time. While we are at it, maybe Shirou has some unchecked stomach problems, since he has nausea all the time?
Luis Brown
>Only thing missing in that OST was a remix of Ever Present Feeling Yeah, I mentioned it in the OP. I was waiting for the confession scene, and got disappointed when it was silent. Fortunately, someone fixed it. youtu.be/-kxu26xZIJw
Cameron Adams
>No "There's about ten meters between us"
Dominic Perry
>baby retard's first visual novel
Wyatt Williams
Anyone seen DEEN's UBW? Should I watch it just for keks?
Colton Turner
If you already know the route, sure, why not? It's the origin of the dolphin memes, after all. And it has a pretty decent Shirou vs Archer fight.
Kevin Williams
Last Stardust should've been the climax of the Shirou vs Archer fight, but instead it dragged on for another half an episode.
Sebastian Gonzalez
>Haha look at this dumbass, if he ate shit more often, it wouldn't taste so bad
Christopher Ross
>dolphin memes Is this related to the Magic Crest transfer scene?
Landon Green
Yep. There are fish-looking things in Realta Nua and ufoUBW, but DEEN UBW is the only one that, for some reason, has actual dolphins.
Jack Nelson
Do you guys think that a fate route by ufotable that followed more closely the vn, with the expanded content from HA and other shit would be cool
Yeah, and it's probably going to happen, either after Heaven's Feel or after F/HA. I kind of hope they relegate Last Episode to a BD bonus, but that's probably not gonna happen.
Dylan Flores
>LE If they relegated that to a bonus the ending would be the same as deens ending
Benjamin Gomez
That's exactly what I want. Last Episode was a mistake.
Logan Wright
Nah, it was great
Asher James
The anime original scene of Saber successfully taking a life off Berserker AT ALL made the entire scene fall apart. VN: Illya leaves after Archer shoots and nearly takes Berserker's life (he blocked when he never needed to so far). She finds it interesting and decides to let them live.
Anime: Saber takes Berserker's life, Archer shoots and nearly takes Berserker's life, and Illya is somehow more interested in Archer. Also, the entire "Saber+Archer cooperate to drive off Berserker without casualties" scenario split from fate/HF falls apart since Saber successfully kills Berserker.
I get that its necessary to tell secondaries what Berserker's ability is, but they pretty much downplayed everything else about this threatening, overpowered bastard that's somehow stronger, FASTER, and more skilled than Saber, and turned him into a reviving punching bag.
Illya being able to fight AT ALL beyond hypnosis also makes Shirou's heroic idealism in all 3 routes about protecting her from the war less impactful. It weakens it from "I protect innocent people" to "I protect waifus XD" since he let the other male (combatant) masters die.
And just my complaints within the first 3 episodes for anime original scenes done poorly and going offscript.
Michael Perry
It's too easy, too convenient, involves no sacrifice, is an asspull, and just isn't satisfying if you think about it. What are they even going to do in Avalon, frolic in the wheat fields 24 hours a day?
And there's something about LE epilogue Saber that just doesn't sit right with me. It's like "there is no more Saber, only Waifu."
Ryan Clark
And thats just*
Juan Wright
>Why did Avalon seemed to stop working when Caster became Saber's Master, but started to work again when Rin took her?
It works by proximity to Saber, since it is powered by Saber's prana. Its been hinted at in F/SN, and established in F/zero novels.
>I still kinda don't get what happened to Shirou. He knows that his ideal is stupid, but still decides to go after it. Is he still going to end up as Archer? According to Nasu the hack, UBW's Shirou won't end up Archer so long as Rin sticks to him, at a 50-50 chance. But Archer already exists in the throne of heroes, so it doesn't matter whether this particular Shirou ends up there, Archer is already doomed.
Juan Diaz
Wait, Illya doesn't have the familiar shit in the game? How does she beat Rin then?
Liam Hall
It was very satisfying for me though, and theres was sacrifice, since there was no guarantee they would ever meet again, after saber "died" and shirou lived his life, they both got rewarded, and who cares about what they do in avalon, its not like they are the only ones there
Brayden Harris
There's no Rin-Illya fight at all in the VN.
Henry Torres
According to nasu he never turns into srcher in any of the 3 routes
Cooper Williams
She doesn't. She sits there and tells Berserker to kill, and everyone doesn't move for fear of getting in the way of the fight/murdered.
The only fighting she ever did was kidnapping Shirou in Fate route, because he weakass shit.
No, Nasu does say this particular Archer in all 3 routes is from a different route altogether, but as for BECOMING Archer, Fate route is guaranteed to end up that way, while HF's Shirou is impossible.
Or are you trying to say Nasu set up a cuck scene as Last Episode, and it wasn't Fate Shirou?
Eli Brown
No he doesnt, he literally stated he doesnt become archer in any of the 3 routes, only thing he said about archer is that hes from a route similar to fate where he couldnt save saber
