Odd time signatures in anime
weird one in yuruyuri first meeting with chizuru in the library seems to be a syncopated 8/8 (!!)
8/8 is weird enough on its own but it doesnt line up nicely with where the downbeats fall
There's 5/4 in Monogatari.

Explain what this means, nerds
It means it belongs in Yea Forums
Musical division of beats.
9/8 means there are 9 beats per measure of music, and that the 8th note is the designation for how long the beat lasts. 6/4 would mean 6 beats per measure with a quarter note as the beat length designation.
Most standard compositions are done in 3/4, 4/4 or 6/8 time signatures
To add to this, it usually also contains an implication about how the rhythm is supposed to be felt. For example, 3/4 and 6/8 are technically the same, but in 3/4, you have three groupings of 2 8th notes whereas in 6/8, you have two groupings of 3 8th notes.
5/4 though that's probably one of the less unusual things about it

Probably at least one track of aira anime soundtrack
Trained anons, what timing is Houseki no Kuni's 'Danger' in? Sounds like some kind of 12/8 + something else compound but I can't really get a feel for it. In any case, much of the soundtrack has some weird gamelan-influenced stuff going on.
I would notate that in 3/4 and 180 bpm.
Azumanga Daioh has 7/4 in the chorus

Evangelion must have some.

That one is in 4/4.
Good thread but my autism forces me to note that there are plenty of unusual rhythms that are still in 3, 4 or 6. Time signatures weren't made to acknowledge syncopation and so do a pretty poor job of representing the rhythm of a piece of music.
That's true, and they also fail to represent polyrhythms and polymeters. Moreover, music isn't a competition of who can write the most complex or unusual rhythms, because if it was, everything would sound like shit.
