I tried to give it a shot, I really did. Got like 10 episodes in, but Jesus, there just wasn't a hook. Sadly I agree...for now. Might give it another shot some other time, because there has to be something behind the hype

I've yet to watch this show. Tell me about it's upsides. From what I understand it's barely animated, so are visual directing, background art etc at least good? Or why would someone watch 70 episodes of it?

If you think theres a good payoff for watching all the way through including the filler episodes, you'll probably be disappointed

Try reading the manga user, the anime moves too slowly. Or give one of Urasawa's shorter series a read and see if you like it first, they're all fairly similar.

Well it maybe poorly written, but Urasawa is so great at delivering his conspiracy series, like when you got stabbed out of nowhere by stranger, you don't know who's friend who's enemy, etc.. So basically Monster is all about enjoyment.
For the cliche though, it probably has movie cliches but at least it rarely being used in anime, most cliches in anime are shounen and high school setting with little girls, etc.. When I watched Monster it didn't feel cliche at all.

To be fair, you have to have a really high iq to understand Monster
