Change my mind

Anime is just glorified manga. Change my mind.

Panelling exists to specifically make things flow well on a single page

and that's why they are better, lower production costs means weirder things get made

Why would I? Manga are comics and most have such piss poor art that they aren't any better than books. Calling them storyboards is false, though. If anything, they are layouts. Storyboards are too simplistic and unpolished to be the equivalent to manga pages. Be that as it may, comics are still laughable compared to the art form that is animation.

> Look at OPM S2
> Look at Orobochi's design.
Yeah, no, bitch. Some things aren't as feasible in anime as they are in mangas.

It would be like saying that books are glorified notes. And paintings are glorified doodles.

anime is way too slow for me, id rather read manga

Does this mean comics are too?

No, fuck off

that's like saying a book is a glorified script

At least time is taken to at least colour comics

have you seen the difference between the size of comics and manga you fucking stupid crossboarder ?

I'm not seeing how this is a defense of the artistic inferiority, only one of efficiency.

>western comics
>superior in any way
Get a load of this retard.

id much rather have a good looking manga, then a shitty 10 pages comic with bad art

Books are just glorified sets of scribbles.

Anime is just glorified paintings arranged in an order to look like they're moving.

>reads colored jojo manga once

Not necessarily, but at least the effort is made. Not colouring manga results in loss of artistic potential.

Digital coloring looks like shit. It's even worse in western comics than it is in those digitally colored manga. There's nothing wrong with black and white art just like there's nothing wrong with black and white movies. They're two different skillsets and the way the art is drawn is designed for whatever they're going for.

There's moments in TV anime adaptations that are less animated than the manga they're adapting.

>They're two different skillsets and the way the art is drawn is designed for whatever they're going for
That's fine if it's the case and they're are certainly manga I've seen that look great in black & white, but moreoften it look like something that should be coloured but isn't and ends up looking like a doodle or storyboard because of Japs and their shitty production system and no doubt stubborn traditional mindedness.

>but moreoften it look like something that should be coloured but isn't
The only time I've ever felt this is when you see pages that were originally colored but then were reprinted in black and white for the tank release. Most manga I've read look similar in the way they use white space and shade. Maybe I could see this with Made in Abyss since its art kind of looks like water color. It sounds like you just have some bias that you apply to every manga because you want them colored.

...

>there doesn't need to be a separate manga boar-

it really doesn't need to, animeonlies are annoying but tolerable

I'd be glad to
>weebs will never have something as artistically significant as Watchmen

Attached: comic-scan.jpg (1913x1076, 962K)

Not that guy but a lot of manga these days is just basic digital linework and grayscale bucket-fill. I don't think coloring would make it better, but it would not make it worse either.

Anime/manga has plenty of edgy "deconstructions" of existing genres already.

MOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOODS

There's also plenty that are still drawn and shaded by hand.

Why should I?

Why is this board full of fucking idiots?

Attached: mugitemplate.png (1030x918, 1.7M)

Storyboards are just shitty manga.

You're one of them. Otherwise you wouldnt come here.

It's a kind of trolling I've never seen before. I'll give you that much, faggot.

Any kind of comic is a glorified storyboard

Manga board when i'm tired of sharing a board with animeonly subhumans.

Drama is the superior art form anyways
>No manga will come close to the formal perfection of Oedipus the king

ghibli is glorified disney

Anime is just glorified ads for their own glorified storyboards.

>thread is a glorified shitpost

Manga are just glorified toilet paper.

>singular form of a word + are
OP sure is retarded.

50s-60s manga had a lot of those.

how about jojo

One Piece has surpassed it

yeah and?

Dialog is glorified text. Words are glorified letters. Letters are glorified grunts and sounds.
If don't consider manga stories then what are animations? A glorified collection of pictures?
How much dust makes a pile? What level of completion does a page need until it turns into a story OP? Otherwise you're just hinging on continuum fallacy.

Fucking this, a tight action scene with a few speech bubbles, which technically couldn't be spoken in that time, becomes a retarded slow motion act of people floating in air or taking ages to connect a punch.
It's dumb every single time and I do not only read it faster, my brain plays it out closer to the intended speed than any anime ever could.
It's even more jaring when they put some filler animations with actual speed to make up for it.

there is a desperate need for so much anime to stop being so strictly based off LNs or VNs or Manga. There's no excitement when you can just read ahead. Seems anime has become corporate cocksuckery retards afraid of taking risks so they just want to make an anime based off something else that already has a fanbase.

There's nothing terribly wrong with it, but when there's more LN/VN/MANGA anime than original anime, it really just shits things up.

In a better world, VNs wouldn't even be made into anime because 90% of VNs are based around tragedy and are total downers.

It's a weird issue of the medium. Manga/Comics show key points while animation, by it's nature has to follow the full sequence. There's of course a certain art to the flow of manga pages but an anime needs to be a more complete "follow through." So the pace is naturally quicker.

This is especially obvious in reaction shots, which in a manga are done in one panel before be quickly moved past but an anime will hold on these for far too long as the characters stand around go "UH-AH....NANI!" And it's especially bad in shonen fight anime where they just completely drag out the pacing of what should be, by all accounts, a fast paced action scene. Even when you need to explain something, because you can READ faster than the voice actors can talk it still doesn't slow down as much.

I get you want to stick close to the source material but different mediums have different rules and I really wish more directors understood this.

Are you the same faggot that posted that thread that got deleted about manga being subpar or some shit? Because you're a fucking idiot.

"Glorified" means that something seems to look better than what it actually is. Storyboards are rough drafts that give producers a direction of how they create a film. Manga (as well as any kind of comic) on the other hand, are polished sequences of drawings that are designed to make you engaged with what you're reading. There's a difference. That's why manga isn't "glorified". It's not because it's a storyboard that is marketed as something different. It's because it's much better than a storyboard that gets marketed as what it really is - an amazing work of art.

Manga has limitless potential for how you can stylize your art. Animation must simplify the art that the mangaka has drawn. That's where the bulk of the criticism from manga readers come from. It doesn't look as good as the manga, but that's only because it takes too long to make every single frame of animation as detailed as the manga.

Animation looks prettier because it's produced by much more people than a manga. You need an entire team of animators as well as a director and screenwriter to organize how everything's done, as well as music and voice acting. Manga only requires one person with a few assistants. The average amount of talent in an individual working on an anime is much lower than the mangaka themself.

It's because the best writers are the ones that actually write LNs, VNs, and manga. Do you seriously expect an anime studio to write something with any amount of competency? Take advantage of the people who have the most talent in writing and create an adaptation of it. That's why anime on average has infinitely better writing than your average American cartoon.

Books are enslaved daydreams

>Manga are comics and most have such piss poor art
>animation has good art
How low of an IQ do you have to have to actually think this? Do you have any kind of experience in drawing and animation? Have you ever realized that art in animation has to be simplified for it to be easier to animate?

Manga isn't colored because it's too time consuming. That's the only way mangaka will have time to draw 20 pages a week.

>the best writers are the ones that actually write LNs, VNs, and manga

Holy fuck what am I reading. The best anime productions are better written than all of those.

>animation has to be simplified for it to be easier to animate?
Not necessarily, but almost always is the case due to time and money constraints, sadly. It's less of a comparison between two media and more of a result of deadline loving greedy megacorps wanting to just shit out more of whats popular because no matter how crap it is, basement troglodyte japs will eat that right up.

And animation is just moving digital linework and color bucket-fill. I don't think you understand how much skill it takes just to draw proper lineart when you see so much shitty colored art and paintings on the internet that are shit because they don't even have the basic lineart construction done correct.

>the best anime productions
You mean the ones that are based off LNs, VNs, and manga like 90% of them? Come back when you have at least 90 IQ you fucking mongoloid.

>not necessarily
You're already wrong. Notice how I wrote "easier to animate". Obviously it's possible to animate less simple art but that means it will take longer to do.

Yeah I getcha now.
