I actually like Naruto but that's complete bs. You're introduced to 5 big villages and a few smaller ones, yet Kishimoto forgets about all of them except leaf and sand until 500 chapters later. Sound was also relevant for about two arcs unveil nobody cared anymore. You also don't see anything about the kingdoms and their
relationships with the villages until right at the end.

Bleach on the other hand did develop soul society a fair amount, delving numerous times into the darker part behind it. Hueco Mundo is just nothingness but that's literally the point. It's just a hollow wasteland

Is it opposite day today? The pacing of Bleach is so bad it's nigh impossible to speedread it, unless you're skipping entire chapters. We never had a problem with speereaders, only shippers who are know to deliberately ignore information that doesn't coincide with their presuppositions, and people forgetting things that happened 200 chapters ago, which is just plain forgetfulness.

The point of shonen is that by definition the audience is so young they haven't seen anything else before, so mangaka can keep reinventing sliced bread without much scrutiny. Tribalism, especially the tribalism of youth is stronger than common sense and evidence anyway.

It's a bit different now because of the internet and the wide spread availability of information but that certain wasn't the case is the dial up age of Bleach or Naruto.

Bleach stopped looking cinematic toward the ends of the SS arc. Kubo quickly got sick of adhering to the weekly mangaka lifestyle and being governed by editors as he was forced to perpetuate a long-game story. As such, his artwork suffered dearly. I don't want to make excuses for the guy, not at all, just wanted to point out that Kubo's general artistic attitude and style of creation is not at all cut out for weekly deadlines and long, over-arching plots. The only kind of series that he could maybe write effectively on a weekly basis would be something like a fashion-designer shounen which would be 50% slice of life filled with crazy outfits and non-sequiteur character interactions and 50% superpowered runway showdowns with set-ups and conclusions all governed by glorious asspulls based on STYLE POWER.

Extended Karakura fights for every Shinigami and Fullbringer ar getting cut short (the Shinigami coming so early was cause of their popularity) are notorious examples of editor meddling desu. Also this is my personal opinion, not fact, but Byakuya surviving was obviously not what Kubo wanted and he probably survived cause of all that fan pressure (and probably editor influence since he had such a hard-on for the Shinigami). I remember people twiiting Kubo using the fanscans and threatening him while the chapter wasn't even out yet in Japan, God that was a shitshow, no wonder he's in no rush to return.

I've read tons of manga.
Battle Shonen manga always have fucking terrible drawn action and benefit the most from anime adaptations.

With DB you can read the action very very clearly because Tori's art is clean and not overloaded with pointless clutter all over the place.
This is why I rate Toriyama so high. He's just on a whole other plane of existence to other mangaka when it comes to technical skill. He knows the limitations of the comic format extremely well which very few mangaka nowadays even do.

With Kubo while he keeps it simpler than most mangaka he wastes so many damn panels on just foot steps.
His fights are terribly paced and drag on for too long. And in the end the fights are resolved with bullshit hax powers.

The average anime fan can't really comprehend more than "tiddies and fighting", and while Bleach fulfills both of these categories to an amazing degree, the narrative complexity was too much for the average socially inept horny fourteen-year old boy or hot-topic daddy-issues girl.
Bleach also had characters who didn't do the same stupid shit over and over, and suddenly got stronger. Kubo invested a lot of effort explaining how most characters got to where they were, and why they got their crazy bullshit anime abilities. Little Tommy and Tiffany don't have the attention spans for that.

Soifon, Yamamoto, Hitsugaya, Tosen, Renji, Shinji, Komomura, are terrible fighters because they try too hard to act like noble samurai in the middle of a war. This is why they get badly trounced by the more industrialized Vadenrich, or styled voer by Aizen
