Asuka is less relevant to everything than Gendou, and it seems like she might realize it herself and overcompensates by being a tryhard. Rei, Shinji, and Kowaru are the only ones that matter.

It's not that Angels aren't trying to cause an impact, is that's the impact is like a wish granting thing and the Angels want to use it to delete mankind, while Humans involved in the impacts have just ended up resetting Human life - so it's important to the Angels regarding /who/ initiates it. It's an abstraction of a dead Shinji still in Unit 01 and still speared through its core with Cassius, while a silhouette of an intact Unit 01 is going berserk marching on something and being shelled, and Gendo gives some kind of order. If they had enough of time and things didn't go straight to shit after Episode 15/16, they may have gotten comfortable enough to let their guard down around each other for a split second and actually act on it to support each other. But shit went off the deep end by that point and they had no real hope to overcome themselves.

Ya I agree that there is bond between Asuka and Shinji a desire they have for the other. But I would not describe it as love. They need to sort out there feelings and understand themselves better before they truly have a chance of a romantic relationship.

That's not canon. The only canon sense in the series is that when the pilot's plug "dives" too deep into an eva's core, shit gets weird for them. Berserk Eva's are the beginning of weird shit when they dive too deep, but are recoverable. Then you get situations like Rei's or Shinji's where they go balls deep and transcend physical barriers. Rei did it once in the anime and then again in EoE, and so technically does Shinji also get dragged into it in EoE, but also Shinji ends up doing it trying to save Rei in the second Rebuild film.

Of course there are questions as to why when it happened in the rebuild, Eva-01 suddenly got all the Angel powers, but there's probably no doubt that Eva-01 being "like" an Angel at that time, Shinji was probably feeling "like" an Angel too given he was balls deep inside Eva-01, so deep in fact he unironically penetrated Eva-00's core.

Nevertheless, Kaworu had to have had a good reason to stop it all.

It is likely that Eva 01 is one of the four Adams in Rebuild. That would explain why it was showing all those angel like powers. And explain why it was regressing to a earlier state when it initiated the Third Impact.

Well they fought the 10th angel at the end of Rebuild2 and Kowaru becomes the 13th angel at the end of Rebuild3, so it couldn't have been all that exciting. Lots of things unrelated to angel attacks seem to have happened though, like the creation of Wille and somehow Eva-01 got into space and was orbiting earth.

it seems ambiguous. It's hard to tell if her core was removed and exploded, or if it just popped out for a second then went back in. The end of Rebuild2 shows the angel Eva-01 with two cores, so one is obviously Rei's. Seems like Asuka does something to Rei's core to start the engine of the Wunder, but the huge explosion just keeps it all ambiguous.

Come to think of it, the value of the angelic Eva-01 was because Rei and Shinji, or their two cores - so maybe it wouldn't really be all that useful as an engine if Rei's core was destroyed.
Hopefully that wasn't just lowkey Rei-getting-killed to start the Wunder's engine.

Kaworu is a cool dude, it's a shame he gets hate due to having a predominantly cancerous fanbase and other shippers getting triggered by his presence.

overall i'd agree but i feel like the gay piano scenes ultimately detracted from that and, honestly, from their relationship in the film in general. they felt indulgent and kinda broke up the atmosphere in a detrimental way for me.

I think it was just a bit too long for me, it took some time out that could have been spent developing the relationship between Shinji and Misato and Asuka, my two other favorite characters.

Is the Rei shinji saved still part of Eva-01, or was she recovered? There's a Rei in an LCL tube in Rebuild3 that the Rei who captured Shinji from Wunder meets. The Rei who captured Shinji is very emotionless, while the Rei in the LCL tube seems to be more animated. The Rei in the tube might be the Rei Shinji saved, and the scream of the explosion which started Wunder's engines might be something else.
It might not be a red core that's exposed when Asuka stabs through to Eva-01, but rather the arm her Eva was equipped with, which has a ball joint that looks about the size of a core. So the explosion kinda sounding like Rei's screams is probably just coincidence and meant to sound like a generic Angel scream probably.

A lot of stuff happened between Rebuild2 and Rebuild3 so it doesn't seem too unlikely that Rei could have been recovered at some point.

God I love AxS. It may be my favorite (potential) relationship in all of fiction.
The Eva staff rode a fine line between giving us too much and too little, and the resulting sexual tension is just insane. The characters are also very interesting on their own, so the idea of them being together is even more tantalizing, considering it'd entail some growing up on their personal aspects that need fixing the most urgently
