Looking back at it, I think Kuroko is one of the anime that had the biggest influence on my taste in anime. So many things I look for in anime nowadays are things I first saw or noticed in Kuroko.

Agree with Chihayafuru and Slam Dunk, but still, Kurobas has something the rest lack. Fujimaki managed to satisfy female and male public almost equally, and distriuted aspects of his manga both parts enjoyed. It was a refreshing shounen with a simple story with attractive characters and top-tier character design. Maybe, that's what OP is looking for.

It really doesn't. If you want basketball manga then Slam Dunk is the way to go. It's superior win characters, plot, and art. That's without me mentioning Real.

Slam Dunk did, and half of the readers of Chihayafuru are male as stated by Suetsugu herself. No idea on the other three so I won't comment, but I do believe Hikaru no Go had a large female readership.

Art was shit in the beginning, and the looks like shit in the extra chapter against those Americans. The superpower shit was dumb as fuck as well.

You're right, Inoue is the best if basketball is everything you want.
I still think Kurobas was refreshing, though. It's not like Fujimaki could do a lot with the sport theme either, and that was also mentioned by Inoue, but it felt nice that Fujimaki was able to write a modern story based on the same sport although the premise sounds dumb (I mean, Buzzer Beater's premise is almost equally dumb if not worse, and still it worked).
