Part 8 isn't finished yet. Hard to judge. If I had to judge it right now it'd go above 1 and 3 but below 5.

This. It's Morioh but part 7 tier. A better written story, more complex characters, greater artwork, more fleshed out themes and philosophy.

The Morioh of part 4 felt almost like another character of the show. It was a bizarre town in which the weirdest kinds of people hanged out in the weirdest kinds of places. For the main cast Morioh represented the carefree peaceful life that a highschool student should have. For Kira Yoshikage Morioh represented the tranquil and quiet life he had lived.

Part 8 Morioh is just a place. You could set the story in a suburb in New York and a little would change. Yes, you have the "wall eyes", something that had importance in maybe the first ten chapters.

There is an attempt of pushing s theme about "identity", but it ends up being nothing more than a McGuffin for the main character, and it doesn't matter anymore cause we already know everything that happened before Gappy was "born".
