Did they really? I am unfamiliar with all their animes besides Pokemon, but from what I can probably figure, the only thing 4kids did was just original intros. They didn't actually do original soundtracks though, did they?
I feel studios like Dic, Funimation, and Nelvana got more heavy handed in actually producing original episode music rather than using the japanese episode music.

4kids' jokes were usually shitty pop culture references or worse than the original jokes in the show. Not to mention the shitty voice acting that was even worse than most dubs. Not to mention releasing their edited versions without the original version. Stuff like Doremi are already funny. I haven't seen 4kids' version of that but I can only imagine the kinds of things they did with that series and the censoring an already show for little kids.
Japan censors anime too and people blame it on Japan trying to cater to the US.

To be fair, after they lost the license it was apparently found that they didn't even want it and it was pushed on them by Toei. The whole situation sucks and gave us several years of their shitty OP dub but it was ultimately just shitty Japanese business.
