The ending was underwhelming not only because of the ships, you braindead moron. It didn't resolve anything but the Tenma and Karasuma's situation, and it did so with a fucking copout.
If School Rumble were your average 4koma slice of life comedy, you wouldn't find so many people so butthurt by the ending. It had some sort of progression, and that you chose not to remember it doesn't excuse it dropping the ball so hard it literally killed the mangaka's career.
