The only thing noteworthy about him is being "cucked" and that's a mere consequence of the intention to pair Kokoro and Mitsuru together, two characters they actually gave a shit about.

In fact, I think they made Futoshi this way so things would go smoothly in their favor. It didn't work out perfectly, but few people genuinely care for the character. Why make a shit character to sacrifice in cheap drama as opposed making a decent one, I don't know but it's one of this anime's problems.
