In the korean TL it sounded like he didn't put much hope into them defeating UM1. Now this looks like he thinks they're actually able to pull it off.

There are other possibilities. If Monjiro and U&G reaches Muzan, there's a high chance of UM1 retreating to go to wherever Muzan is. Also snek and harlot are supposed to be fighting the biwa demon. If they win, the whole fortress will probably collapse and we don't know where everyone will land.
That said, the barrage of moon breaths in this chapter and the flashback with Tanjirou is a huge death flag on grandpa. I'm scared.

It's perfectly acceptable if this common sense was held simply because almost nobody up to now had came close to a case where it didn't work straightforwardly. Remember that in the last 100 years nobody came close to cutting the neck of an UM nor even saw Muzan, so it's perfectly acceptable that they held this notion despite Muzan being immune to that shit and some UMs having gimmicks to hide their neck. Also, Akaza being able to regen his neck is supposed to be something unprecedented.

Douma got killed by two unmarked non-pillars+ the weakest pillar and the two of them were more or less fine after the fight. Koku will be killed by 3 pillars (two of which are the strongest ones), all marked+ Genya, and 2 of them are most likely dying or being crippled for life soon after the fight.

Douma was playing all the time, he could have killed all 3 at any given time. He lost for the same reason Gil lost to Shiroe
