It really doesn't. At least not so far. Maybe after things get sorted out much farther it will become... something, but who knows. Things in this series are quite messy, and the author generally hasn't just had things cheat to make stuff work out, so even if he starts trying to sort out the romance stuff its probably more like a classic love triangle than a harem. And then satan is going to throw a giant wrench into that.

Well, for one, she looks like satan, which is a huge turn-off. Second, the anime and really the series as a whole tends to gloss over this point, but people are generally aware that hanging around her is an incredibly good way to die horribly to the witch cult. Elves and half-elves are specifically targeted by them and as you saw with Uncle Pete, he'll flatten a whole nearby village for shits and giggles just because it's in her proximity, and he's been doing that for at least 100 years. Thirdly, she doesn't get out much, so she doesn't exactly meet that many people. The people she does interact with tend to realize quickly that she's pretty retarded, to what extent they'll voice that depends on status and politeness and whatnot, but generally most characters think she's kind of dumb the same way they think Subaru is a shady fuck, but don't just throw that out there all the time. And finally she's typically wearing a cloak that inhibits memory and recognition, so you might remember you had talked to a pretty girl that day, but you wouldn't know it was Emilia even if you met her again later.

Hmmm okay should I stick with anime only or read the WN/LN? I can tell the author is very, uh, inexperienced but I don't mind.

And I know I seem critical of it here but trust me I do really like this series, its just i've seen good concepts/starts wasted by authors who don't know how to make a good story out of them so just turn them into generic isekai number 6 trillion and i'd rather not have that disappointment again.

If you want to have no preconceptions it might be best to just watch whatever S2 spits out since it's in the works, but if it ends up being pretty shitty or not feeling quite right I'd check out the WN, it's more accessible and probably better than the LN.

what are the differences between the WN and the LN?
The LN tones down characterization, world building, straight up cuts content out, and past Vol 7 it takes influence from the anime which makes it cut way way more and drastically changes the structure of events. The WN is superior in most ways, except that it will never have official translations into english/other languages.

If you want to jump to where the anime left off, start with Arc 4. I strongly advise you to start with user's interlude (the part you start with) because his doesn't skip the Natsuki Rem chapter like Translation Chicken does. Translation Chicken's translations are higher quality and more polished than user's but he hasn't finished Arc 4 like user has. Start with user's interlude, then switch to Translation Chicken or just keep with user's like I do. Also user's translation gets way better the farther into the Arc because I guess they were learning as they went.

user's Arc 4 is 1600 pages and 660000 words.

The only 2 scenes with CGI in the first 13 episodes (arc 4) will be the scenes in which the rabbit is forming its hoard, so when Roswaal blows up the house with Goa and when betty and subaru beat back the rabbit for good, and the mobbeasts attacking the mansion . The cgi won't be that bad for the rabbits

In the next 12 episodes, (arc 5) the CGI will be the people rioting in the city under wrath's control . Expect Overlord levels of CGI here

the first episode will be the scene with Rem and crusch getting glutted, which will seem kind of different from the place where it happened in the WN/LN considering it was meant to be episode 13 because the first 12 episodes had to be re-written because they wrote Rem into arc 4. hence why S2 is taking so long, and hence why Tappei is now a director for S2, and we haven't had a WN in almost a year now.

Episode 13 will be mansion interlude chapters where Garf and his sister reconcile their differences. 14-24 will be Arc 5, with an OVA being the scene from arc 6 where subaru makes his pledge to Rem
with the arc 4 re-write, we will be getting more WN content for the arc 4 part with Tappei being brought in for the re-write. Garf fight will actually be there but shortened, but don't expect WN things from arc 5 to be there (like the garf vs reinhard fight).

Kadokawa has let the entire series slip into a domino effect. It first started with the WN/LN changes and edits, (mostly Tappei's fault for submitting 1000+ pages for the first volume), and then the Anime and Manga having further canonical cuts and revisions of their own.

Whats really putting the nail in the coffin is White Fox screwing itself by trying to write Rem into arc 4 for marketing reasons, and people at Kadokawa pulling the plug, and just throwing the responsibility of the arc 4 re-write to Tappei as a director. Lots of issues with VA's getting upset their lines aren't going to be used, having to do more/different lines for the same pay, etc etc. Not to mention Kadokawa already has lots on their plate, and their studios are running at max right now.

At least with it as well there's no reason to argue the whether or not certain events that appear in different adaptations actually happen off the record in other adaptions. I always recommend reading the LN of the anime portion because of how much is missing, like a good 50% is missing since you don't get Subaru's and Rem's monologues. After the anime the WN is what you want. The LNs are so bad I cannot recommend reading them. The rewrite was atrocious to the point I don't believe the author had anything to do with them.

I think it was a combination of this, and also because Subaru was being used to represent the shitty, entitlement of an otaku who misinterpreted the fantasy world as a gift to him. Even a little later, you can catch him in the thought process a few times of expecting things to just "work out" for him because it was "his isekai" fantasy.

But this scene could have been handled better, because I legitimately don't fault OP or anyone else for not understanding this, as the way the anime shows it, it just looks like he's relapsing to the state he was in when he first got there.
