Because my requests are usually for more obscure shows but I don't really see how someone would need to study up on a show instead of just following the request, since the requester has already made the request with the character and his characteristics in mind

I'm gonna let you all in on the most public secret around. Us drawfags are fucking sick of "X wearing X" requests and these threads are literally 80% that. What isn't outfit swaps is usually too vague to catch interest or too stupid to warrant effort. In descending order of frequency we take specific ideas, our own fetishes, or actually interesting ideas the most. Believe it or not "leaving it vague to see what the artist does with it" does not help in any way. If I see a request like "bocci wearing a frilly swimsuit" VS "Bocci climbing on the ceiling a walmart like a spider while wearing Audrey Hepburn's dress from Breakfast At Tiffany's" you can bet your ass I'd take the second one just because it actually has a setting. You want a higher chance of your request being taken? Put in some goddamn effort and request something where you don't basically give 100% of the work to us. We come here for fun or practice, not to interpolate what you didn't say you wanted but clearly want anyways.

To the extent one can speak of effort I do think I put them into the references and descriptions. I've seen that said before but to be honest the requests where I DID write a lot of specifics (without bloating it with dumb shit of course) never really got picked up until I sized it down. Thats what it feels like at least, there's no 100% way to tell since it could also be someone already picked it up while it still had a long description and delivered it once I had already downsized it. This is why I'm genuinely curious about your mindset, there's no way to tell if I'm doing it right or wrong since it all feels so random. I guess it does differ with every artist after all but I'm still curious about the consensus of what to do and what not to do in a request, I just want to get closer to the ideal format so I can have a better chance at getting something drawn of characters that might be a bit more obscure.
