IBO and G reco hg kits remain 'affordable' around $15. But most HG grades are still $20~$40. SD grades aren't even justifiable for its price given how tiny it is.

Not really, almost all HG's are less than 20$.
You can find great HG like all The Origin stuff for 1600 yen or so, and some revives have ridiculous prices like 900 yen, that's like 8$ for a damn nice kit. And that's going for the new stuff, you can even go cheaper than that with older models.
Even MG's are pretty cheap for what they offer.

Old UC hg kits still expensive af. Like Zaku III, Dra-C, Doven Wolf, GP02. Still at $30~45. Older MG still remain expensive because of their outdated frame, like Kamfer, Zaku Cannon, Acguy, still $45~$60. I agree newer hg kits especially from Origin became cheaper.

You can buy second-hand Ikea furniture from Ikea for a discount. My entire collection fits on a Billy so I don't really have to worry yet.

Depending on the model of the pillow, you're supposed to let it air out for a couple days first before sleeping with it. Not doing so can make it permanently smaller than it can possibly be so covers will always be too big.

Amazon is fantastic for the fact that if you're logged in it tells you when you already bought a book which is essential when volumes go 9 months between releases.

How do they package it? Is it like their other stuff, where they just throw it in a big box with 1 air cushion so it all jostles around during transit?

Not all the time do they use the air cushion but many times they would just pack it in a box they fit in and send it in either a big box packed to the brim or two different boxes where one may have an air cushion as they just put the rest of the volumes in there. The issue I ran into is for some reason they would have a manga volume partically opened and stick part of another volume inside of it to save space or something? It seemed too intentional to be an accident as they have done that on all 4 of my orders of over 20 volumes and for this reason 6-7 manga I got delivered were in worse off quality because of it.

Mate I've had them shove individual manga in bags with no protection so they arrive dented and warped. I've had them shove books into small packages with other unsecured items only for the book to be shredded by the time it arrived. I've had them send me 15 volumes (in 1 order!) in individual bags which got so fucked up during delivery I had to have them resend it all again in which case they finally secured the books in the package to send to me.

Amazon sucks for packaging.

The only manga that price are like the basic bitch shounen from Viz which are single volumes are cost between 9-11 dollars. Almost everything else is usually around 12-13 nowadays for single volumes and many manga on the list are from companies that usually charge more for single volumes like Vertical or Viz Sig runs plus there are some boxsets of complete series on there with some omnibus releases so that does kinda weigh it out.

There are enough coastal cities and such from down the east coast from New Jersey to Florida and following the south in places like Louisianna, and Texas that is a great deal of people and happen a lot. Even in non-coastal cities or states where there are creeks, lakes, etc. nearby they are commonly flooded all the time. Hurricanes have also done a great deal on Texas and Lousianna as well and can sometimes come up to the Carolinas and cause a great deal there causing floods and such.

All collections are part of a separate insurance because the insurance company has to send an actuary to evaluate the perceived cost of the collection and write a separate policy from there. Otherwise they give you a flat rate for estimated damages which are always lower then the actual cost of the item.

If flooding is the problem you can build your house walls to withstand the water pressure (basically build it like a water tank, but keeping the water OUT).
If thunder storms are the problem, you can also build your house to withstand it (see how buildings don't collapse during thunderstorms? Building a house to withstand them is even easier).
With earthquakes I don't think there's anything that can be done cheaply, but then i don't live in a place with earthquakes so I wouldn't know.
Americans really love building their houses out of cardboard and sticks though, so they prefer to keep rebuilding what nature destroy.

I have no idea what is going on with Melonbooks right now. They have always been slow to ship after Comiket but it never was this bad for any of my orders.

Do you rather collect artbooks or manga user? I have big collections of localized licensed manga but I'm considering to sell them because I'm in the middle of big house cleaning recently and it's highly liberating not to have a lot of stuffs honestly. But the main thing is that I'm fucking sentimental with my manga despite I myself feel that the only value left in my old manga is the pretty illustrations/artworks and some titles which I think will be good for my future children, I don't really feel there's any value left in a lot of their stories because I've already finished them. That's why I'm considering to start collecting artbooks, besides full blown artworks are always prettier while taking less space at the same time and you can pirate or pay digital subscriptions for manga nowadays

Avoid Comodo, they are still below A&J's flagship pillows. DHR6000 had a drop in quality a couple years back, but I understand it's good nowadays. Absolute best is DHR7000, but it costs 15'000 yen, so it's on a whole other level.
