I'm easy to please. The tatami galaxy is always a controversial choice in these threads because people take it as the 'included to try and show taste' option. I think honestly it's just unique enough in terms of animation style and well put together enough in narrative that it's simply good enough to be on a lot of lists.
8/9 -Violet Evergarden
Despite it being an absolutely beautiful anime, especially on certain detail scenes with her arms, it never struck me as interesting. When I watched it I was never really engaged.
7/8 -K-on
While I like Urusei Yatsura I always consider it the inferior prototype of the same archetypes you later get in Ranma 1/2.
8/9 - Hajime no Ippo
I'll be honest Ippo would have been good in my book if it had been told in about 300 chapters. The story as it is drags on and drags on and drags on.
8/9 -Madoka
Madoka is bad. I never understood the enjoyment of it. Urobutcher has such better shows.
8/9 -K-on
Never understood the appeal for K-on. It never struck me as engaging.
> I always consider it the inferior prototype of the same archetypes you later get in Ranma 1/2
I'd say its the opposite. I'm rewatching Ranma right now and the ensemble cast just feels like a watered down version of what we got in UY.
I may need to reconsume it. My opinion is probably strongly colored by the fact I read Ranma 1/2 while I watched Urusei Yatsura.

That's completely understandable with Hajime no Ippo, still entertaining but the end is nowhere in sight. I have to have my fingers crossed that Berserk ends in the next twenty years, and Vagabond won't ever get finished since its author's passion is now into supporting real basketball teams.

Give an example of a cringe one and why. I’m curious of your opinion.
I don't have very strong feelings towards it. I don't even consider it a bad movie. My problem is that it utterly fails at invoking the feelings of anxiety, dread and uneasiness it sets out to invoke. I do however realize that this is a very personal issue of mine. To me, Paprika does a significantly better job at invoking those emotions additionally to being superior on all other fronts.
Perfect Blue also comes off a bit cramped and tries to juggle too many themes given its short duration. Unlike Paprika, it can't entirely justify doing so either. Dreamscape is peculiar because, well, that's what dreams are. The theme justifies the randomness of the events -- them being random is the point of the film. I guess in Perfect Blue's case, one could make the argument for personality disorders to have a similar effect on one's perception, but it still comes off as too stuffed. Although I do realize that all topics addressed (idol culture and criticism directed towards it, personality disorders and other psychological impairments, obsessed fans, coldblooded attitude to assure success) are connected, so that's less "legit criticism" and more "muh feefees". I look at Perfect Blue as something that tried to be a thriller, but simply isn't thrilling.
7/9 I dislike monogatari and baccano had very little going for me

Yeah, this is the last iteration though as I actually went through everything I have watched and included films in this one. No more changes unless I find a better picture for Horizon in the Middle of Nowhere.
not really fond, would never have realised that was bebop without searching it

i like the ones on here that i've seen, the zombie one looks cool but idk it sadly
i should watch tylor someday, like most of these shows at least somewhat
not really for me
always thought i'd enjoy hyouge mono more but i never really got into it, not overly fond of this grid, personally enjoyed sgrs s1 a lot more than s2 and other various opinions
went back and watched the boob scene from plastic little today - do quite like that
pretty inoffensive, not much to say
i prefer the lighter colorido shorts but shashinkan is really good i reckon
did you watch any of the other kenji miyazawa movies, i like ihatov gensou a lot
like this one, that was a good ep of green jacket, did you watch the latest koike movie
>plastic little was very enjoyable but also a whole lot of nothing.
It's all about the characters for me. There's much more going on between them than in many "larger" narratives.
The OP is a great example.
Full of the top meme anime that everyone watches. Yet these anime series don't have anything special about them other than popularity. Like Evangelion. It's just endless symbolism with the sole purpose of telling you "just be yourself and just be with people bro"(an idea Anno is notoriously OBSESSED with). People who claim these are their favorite series are generally soulless gen-z e-boys/girls who skateboard and wear thrasher clothing.
Fuck this thread.
6/9 Tatami, Lain and Baccano are more anime I appreciate than actually enjoy.
4/8 I love the Utena movie but the TV series was really irritating to watch.

I just realized you have rakugo so I have to change my rating to a 3/4
What's bottom middle ?
not him but, isn't that Kyoukaisenjou no Horizon?
Evangelion is significant solely for the fact it resuscitated a dying industry. I'm not saying it's great, as it's certainly not one of my favorites. However you seem comically cynical.
>always thought i'd enjoy hyouge mono more but i never really got into it, not overly fond of this grid, personally enjoyed sgrs s1 a lot more than s2 and other various opinions
I never really consider seasons when I post these. I always sort of think of them as a complete product. Same with tie in movies like End of Evangelion. I just think of it as an extension of Evangelion.
i'd agree for tv anime but probably not movies, but i'd say s2 of that show soured my enjoyment of the first unfortunately
The Horizon in the Middle of Nowhere.
It holds a special place in my heart because it is aggressively trash, but is the most enjoyable trash I have ever experienced. It is also famous for trying to cram 15+ volumes of light novel into 26 episodes. The whole show is a mess, but it's oddly endearing. Also the main character is absolutely stupendous.
I can definitely understand that. The first and second seasons are different products in the extreme. I enjoyed them both immensely, but for entirely different reasons.

How retarded would I be to make a 3x3 that’s a webm of all the OPs?
Making one shouldn't be difficult. Getting it below the filesize-limit without it looking like shit is what's the problem.
Hmm... I could reduce it all to greyscale.
Well, try it. I don't think it helps as much as you hope. WEBM is pretty good at reducing colour depth anyway. The bulk of the filesize comes down to the difference of frames used, and that's enormous for most openings.
You have quite a distinct taste.
What is top left?
Lol. Are these actually shots from your top 9 shows? I think top center is from Nisemonogatari, but I could be way off. That's the only one I can even guess at.

Yes.
Choose official art (e.g. volume covers) that represent the series well

Tailoring around a certain aesthetic. The only way to do it if you want the grid to look good. Nothing else works, I've tried.
Like what? Is this your 3x3?
No. Either you focus on a certain theme (for example highly detailed wideshots) or focus on limited color palettes (all blue). In either case you need to stick to certain saturation ranges. If you pick 7 shots with flat colors and high contrasts, picking 2 with low contrasts and some digital blur filter (like this one ) will ruin the whole grid. Mid and bottom mid just clash too much with the rest. Admittedly, it's piss easy to make good grids from shorts. Making them from a mix of tvshows, OVAs, movies, 70s-10s is actually hard. Picking recognizable and reverse-searchable shots adds a final layer of finesse. You need a PhD in design to make good looking 3x3s.
Who would you say, in this thread, has good looking 3x3? Not great, but good.
(ruined by bottom row, especially desaturated Yui)
(ruined by desaturated mid - botmid, botright are shit too)
(ruined by midright)
(not a fan, but the digital bloom is present in all shots, makes everything come together - also good range of colors because the overbearing digital effects kinda limit the shots to a single one)
Rest is irredeemable trash, but I doubt people tried. For transparency's sage: third is my own.
You're right. I'm gonna redo mine as all red.
Your mom is desaturated
She is white, has grey blue eyes and very light blonde hair, You're correct, she is indeed desaturated.
Okay but what's her cup size?
i know im going to be called some kind of fag for saying this, but ive been here for years and ive been so envious. How the fuck do you make a 3x3. do i have to download something? is there a website?
I wouldn't be surprised if it's D. Though I neither measured them personally, nor did I ever steal her underwear.
Just use GIMP you tard.
Sorry, but by your own standards, there's way more wrong with all of those than what you pointed out.
>neglecting to mention the Emperor's
Thirty days in the dungeon!
What said. Try to read up on GIMP's "Guide" feature. If you really nead help with something specific, you can always just ask.
But the most important thing is that you get a proper image editor.
Thanks for sharing, I will literally never forget how big your mom's tits are.
Nah, ms paint is fine.
Such as? The Perfect Blue and Shirobako shots clashing with the rest in the last one for example? What else?
cant even bother making something with your own for once? keep crying and begging for templates you r*dditfag.
Also: It's just a very general guideline, autism-kun. All blue doesn't literally mean all blue. You just need a foundation and not use every shade present in the rainbow. It comes down to opinion anyway. If you think garbage with 1inch thick frames looks good, more power to you. It' doesn't though.
For compiling it, sure. Zoomed in you can align stuff pretty well. Not much worse than Paint.Net. But if you want to resize something, Paint is shit.
Also, if you think long-term, you might want to use different layers for each panel, so you can make changes more easily in the future. You can't do that with Paint.
What's wrong with resizing in paint?
And I just put the new square on top of the old one if I want to change something.
What about manga 3x3s, do you consider the black and white ones to be great?
The main "problem" with that particular one is that it has colours from the whole spectrum. Hues are all over the place: Green, torquoise, blue, orange, purple, red, yellow. By your guidelines, that's a no-go.
Or let's take yours: Top-right is mostly heavily desaturated, as are center-top and center-left. The rest isn't. Furthermore, all nine of them are so very different in style (even the linework alone), that it can hardly qualify as what you've called "Tailoring around a certain aesthetic". They share no theme either, which leaves only the shared hue in the yellow-orange-brown part of the spectrum.
Not something I have much of a problem with, but it doesn't really follow the rules you gave.
You don't need to put effort into making them, so I refuse to acknowledge thier existence. Colored pages/covers are a different story. Pic rel is incredible and everything this Kiwifag Australian shitposter has made since then look appalling by comparison. He peaked very early in his career.
Just for you guys I went and created the perfect mosaic.
Eh, I like the layout but the jiro taniguchi manga are very bright and colorful while zamurai is basically a white box. I'm no expert but it kinda seems unbalanced.
>What's wrong with resizing in paint?
Are you seriously asking that?
Paint doesn't interpolate properly. And it shows.
I said A OR B, not both. You can also do both. I'd also make the argument that virtually all of them are somewhat desaturated. I mean, how the hell is Kaguya not the epitome of desaturated color-palette? How is the basis of bottom right not very lush colors? You don't need to stick to a format, it's just easier if you do. And based on how shit virtually all the grids in these threads look, that seems to be something people should focus on first. The rest entirely depends on the cartoons specific looks anyway.
Besides, when I say desatured I don't mean "desatured". I simply don't know what else to call it. English isn't my native tongue, so my ability to articulate myself is somewhat poor. What I am referring to is "wow dude digital blur filter".
Would look better with a high contrast frame on the right, I agree. But it's top 99th percentile nonetheless.
Where do you find manga volume covers without text on them? The number of color pages available for a given manga is limited enough without text covering half of them.
>Pic rel is incredible
That's only because of the hidden svastika.
And what said is true. If you apply your same-saturation-hammer it falls apart. It also has diffences in hue as well. And it frames the shots differently (wide-angle and close-ups).
Again, those are your standards. I'd say that you're better of embracing the stylistic differences your picks have and let them clash when you need to.
>"wow dude digital blur filter".
More like post processing filter I guess. Also: let me provide an example of what I mean. For clarity's sake i.vgy.me
That shot just clashes so hard with the rest it's unbearable.
>I said A OR B, not both.
So you'd say that as long as everthing has roughly the same saturation, it looks good? Or the same hue? Sorry, but it doesn't necessarily work that way.
You're also neglecting contrast entirely, when contrast is the very thing that makes something visually interesting. (Your mono-coloured one is one of the most boring, actually.)
>That shot just clashes so hard with the rest it's unbearable.
Try putting it in the center spot.
>boring
Oh no
It doesn't work, Professor Covers.
This one works everytime
>It doesn't work, Professor Covers.
Well, no, because that shot itself looks like shit.
But if you put something that clashes there (or two or more things that clash in symmetrical positions on the outside), it usually spices up the whole thing.
You're all about tone-in-tone harmony, when that really isn't what makes anything stand out. It's how you'd design a tapestry or wallpaper for a bedroom.
>bro just place it center
You shill GIMP all day so maybe, just maybe, actually use it for once. Looking "awful" is not better than looking "boring".
>how you'd design a tapestry or wallpaper for a bedroom
Sounds good to me. Very calming. Very sexual. The place my soul finds rest at. Who says a 3x3 needs to be aggressive or daring? This limited range of yours sounds like a very personal problem to me.
>Sounds good to me.
Well, great. But it's nothing impressive, like you want to treat it.
Finding some monotonous screencaps is easy if you don't give a fuck about recognizability. Everyone can do that much. But most people opt to pick something that looks more characteristic. Anyway, you have your shitty opinions, I have mine. It's just a bit cringeworthy that you try to make them into rules or guidelines or whatever for others to follow when you yourself only follow them to a certain extent.
I don't think I can change your mind about anything, so we might as well drop this here and now.
>impressive
But nobody called any of those grids "impressive"?! That's a pretty high bar. Our goal should be for more than 1/5 grids to look servicable. You could try to contribute to this endeavour, but you've choosen not to. Will we ever see the might of North American design? The power of GIMP? The strength of freedom? At this point, I can't help but feel a little nervous in fear of dying prior to witnessing it.
>He peaked very early in his career.
That was after 3 years into my 3x3 Odyssey.
Look harder and use search filters. It's very easy. With something as big as Jojo, there are people that make edits of the volume covers to make them clean. Some others have dedicated art books to take images from.
Pretty sure I found Children of the Sea on twitter somewhere. 4 of the pictures in have text on them without resizing. I couldn't find a clean cover for Solitary Gourmet or Yotsuba. The clean cover for Walking Man was low quality. Takemitsuzamurai is just a colour page from one of the chapters which I moved around to hide the text. Be creative to hide text.
Well, yours looks boring as fuck. That's not "servicable". You might think it looks good because it's all brown, but you honestly chose some ugly as fuck screencaps, as far as I'm concerned. And you used some extremely desaturated things that "clash" just as much as that other screencap you found so unfitting. Top-center and top-right just stand out. But not in a good way.
Anyway: I really don't care how your grid looks. Keep doing what you're doing. I wouldn't have said anything about it had you not brought it up as something that follows your strange made-up rules when it clearly doesn't.
>Will we ever see the might of North American design?
What the hell are you even on about, retard? I'm not North American.
So, should we drop this shit "debate" now or would you rather drop more of your shit accusations on that boogeyman of me you've made up in your obsessed mind?
>That was after 3 years into my 3x3 Odyssey.
Woh woh woh, hold on a second. Post an example of a rookie grid of yours?
>strange made-up rules
You could be the one who invents arbitrary rules instead, but unfortunately you're busy using covers and shilling GIMP.
>I'm not North American
Please tell me I am not sharing a continent with you. Dear lord, NO. PLEASE.
>you're busy using covers
I'm not. Thanks, mentally ill retard.
>Please tell me I am not sharing a continent with you.
Fuck off.
They're very far removed from my current taste and I hate most of the things I liked back then. I'll scour the archive to see if I can find anything.
>Fuck off.
Oh NO NO NO NO NO
>and I hate most of the things I liked back then
Now that's a pretty extreme development. Being indifferent towards past favourites is one thing, but developing hatred towards them within a mere 3 years? What happened? Did people bully you?
>Now that's a pretty extreme development
I converted and stopped liking anything degenerate.
Couldn't find any before late 2017, maybe they turned into errors in the archive. There's this joke one, though.
Bit late to convert. It's Allah's century.
Pretty much what I expected after you posted the screencap of CSI vatican. Noone else had ever even given that show any attention. I was going to point out how none of those are degenerate, but I get the impression you'd classify Barakmon as pedoshit, SamFla and LWA as homo propaganda, Houseki no Kuni as tranny advertisement and endorsing a third gender.
>It's Allah's century
I'll take Muslims over atheists.
>CSI vatican
Vatican is still a very fun show worth watching. The first arc is great comedy and the episode right after that was surprisingly good. Serial killer santa and a deal with the devil.
>Barakamon
It has a fujoshi in it
>Samumenco
Gay characters and the MC with severe attachment issues
>LWA
Croix
>Houseki
Yes, it's tranny propaganda. If you look at the people who like it the most, they're all trannies or faggots.
Why do people still like Steins;Gate? We're getting close to 2020 and that shit is wasted and forgotten.
>no Swing You Sinners!
Watership Down was great but what's the excuse for excluding Fleischer?
You might like Claymore and Zegapain
>3 looney tunes
bit redundant
