Why are all the characters on this show 1 dimensional?

Tanjiro:
>no personality outside of kindness & "protect nezuko"
Nezuko:
>literally there to act cute & help Tanjiro asspull his way out of death
Zenitsu:
>comedic relief character that fails miserably
>his entire character is acting like a complete pussy, then fainting & winning
Innosuke:
>blowhard who autistically wants to fight everyone & everything

Why do i still come to this place for opinions on anime?

I don't know the show is designed ground up basically to be a crowd pleaser hit while also hitting up the typical high spender audiences (in this case mainly Fujoshi) as opposed to just the usual Shonen Jump crowd so I think that explains like 99% of the decisions made in it's production, writing and overall design.

Full throttle hype marketing, the usual popular animators, usual popular voice actors, and the usual popular composers approach does something to modern social media lurking anime fans brains where because something was planned ground up to be the most eye catching, ear grabbing, general production value and mass market appeal laden popular show of it's season that it must also have incredible and intrinsically deep complex characters. Either that or it must already clearly have it otherwise why else would everybody be scrambling to talk about it? I mean a lot of fanboys and fangirls treat it as such but it's really not....like none of these shows produced in this fashion have particularly compelling characters usually.

Like seriously despite all the shilling, all the mass appeal and working the social media lurking otaku crowd extra hard......at the end of the day, even surprisingly so, it's still very much a typical Shonen Jump show.

The anime fanbase as it is online circa 2019 is completely incapable of giving what seems like a serious concise legitimate face value opinion on anything nowadays and typically seen doing either one of two things, shilling for attention or trolling for attention. It's also kind of the same as the youtubers everywhere you look everybody is apparently basing their own "opinions" on anime off of now everywhere you look. It's all basically just reactionary commentary that's given precisely in the moment. You're lucky if it all just isn't given in the ironic weeb style of commentary or if the person isn't just lying through their teeth to troll you.

Sorry but you're all just kind of a bunch of fucking idiots that can't talk straight for even a second and could just as soon drop dead of irony poisoning, but you're not doing any better or worse than any of the other major hubs.

I love how you all can't just even so much as try to answer the guys simple fucking question even if you have to bullshit him. Are you people all okay? Is the anime otaku fanbase okay?

because it's a series made for 12 year olds

Because the author unfortunately commits the cardinal sin of writing shit purely based on imitating what others ''in the genre'' do. The premise and vibe/art of the show can be interesting and with potential, but rest succumbs to typical shounen checklisting because that's the only way they know.

>asked a legitimate question
>can't give an answer to counter my arguments
so this is how little faith you have in your series

>"THIS ANIME IS SO GOOD GUISE LAST EP MADE IT A MASTERPIECE"
>the hype is crazy i should probably check this out
>it's slapstick fairy tale
anyone praising this shit is retarded, not OP

no, it's just that retards on this site can only respond with insults cause that's all they have

What a retarded comment

Nice try nigger, but if you actually gave a fuck about character nuance in the show you would have picked up on the fact that Tanjiro's compassion hasn't once made him foolish enough to spare his opponents, which is a phenomenon that shonen protagonist often falter on the moment their enemy is shown in a empathetic light.
>inb4 what about the rest of the characters hurr durr
You can't even read the subtitles so there's no point in telling you to read the manga.

Attached: 1566360522053.jpg (1920x1080, 172K)

Why is Inosuke a guy when he has arguably the 2nd cutest female face in the show??
It makes my wee wee confused

So fucking what? You are saying that not being retarded is the whole extent of the character's depth and complexity? LOL thats barely a compliment, it only shows how generic the character is when thats the only thing you can praise about him is that shit

Can't you all just have fun and watch anime without complain?

What's the big deal with Oxygen!
Why breathe such a basic combination like O2, when you could have something more complicated like C4H8Cl2S!

This shounen has the most focused basic character set you could possibly have, and OP still can't process them correctly. Congratulations.

>he thinks this is exclusive to anime fanbases
Talking about stuff on the net has become a chore desu, it's more annoying than anything. At least i spend less time on the internet day by day, that's something positive.

Does demon sister marry the piggy or the pussy?

I mean it's a Shonen Jump show, just produced and marketed in such a way to try to target late night anime fans and Fujoshi more directly......but it's still a Shonen Jump show. It is funny that it was sort of an also ran action popcorn fare show until what looks like a very carefully and staged marketing campaign caused people to treat it like the second coming. Literally the entire reason this show is talked about so much at the moment is 3 minutes of cliffhanger style sakuga power up (that didn't even amount to much the episode after) to market an insert song and apparently that's all it takes now to make a show the single goddamn greatest thing ever....at least for a few weeks until something else does something similar.

Like I appreciate the flashy action sequence as an 80's guy, but man how that gets turned into everything is amazing, greatest show ever, deepest lore, greatest characters ever, always the most amazing thing that will never be topped, for what feels like at least the 10th show to apparently achieve the same thing in the last 3-4 years? That's all on the weird fuck fans and social media that have cropped up around the anime scene of late and only seem good for making the maximum fucking amount of noise when prompted to by influencers and "that one big hype moment". If you took this current fanbase back to the heydays of the 80's and early 90's films and OVA's their heads would probably explode if 3 minutes of above average TV animation and an insert song is enough to have them crying masterpiece. Try a whole movie or OVA of Sakuga and insert songs every 10-15 minutes like Macross Do You Remember Love or Megazone 23 Part 2.

OP is also retarded for buying in the hype and expected to see deep and complex characters in an action series literally aimed toward children, especially when it's only the early stage of the series. Jump series simply don't have the luxury to develop character more than the bare minimum when they are still fighting to avoid cancellation.

I won't argue as much about the characters themselves because they have more depth than what you say except maybe Tanjiro who is some paragon of virtue kind of character.

Inosuke is also shown as scared with modern things, deeply admires "strong" people and is sometimes insecure about his own abilites. Zenitsu is deep down very responsible about protecting innocents so despite his cowardice pulls through and is fiercely loyal and devoted to his teacher.

My point is that sometimes simple but well-executed characters are better than complex messes that some shounen authors try to do like with Naruto or Deku where the "complexity" is just insecurity, whining or just bullshit internal monologues with shit philosophy/drama. You can do relatively simple characters with just a bit of nuance so that they aren't mere caricatures and be more effective at making them memorable and endearing.

The strength of KnY is being simple but well-executed battle shounen. It's no masterpiece but does everything pretty well.

I mean fuck man, do you get the same vibe I do that almost everybody has no idea what the fuck they are talking about at best or are being disingenuous at worst. Are more interested in making noise, shitposting and having "their views" (more on that in sec) exactly parroted as opposed to actually discussing stuff about shows they claim to like and coming across weird as shit about it like their entire sense of self-worth is predicated on you acknowledging them constantly? I think around the time of noticing the "Anime is Trash and So am I" thing as some sort of badge of honor and mantra to go by was when I really figured the fact that I interact with the anime fanbase about 5% as much as I did in 2014 or so was the right fucking choice. I can't imagine being an active regular participant in all the bullshit arguments, waifu wars and shit flinging that seems to pass for fan discourse lately and looks just incredibly fake and forced.

It's not just anime though, IMO it's social media and letting any asshole with a phone or half-functioning brain get onto the internet and be able to just start posting. People used to come into online fandoms after already kind of being seasoned to things, forming their own opinions and insights and then sharing them and not being threatened by different ones cause they lived somewhat functional lives already before hand. Nowadays it's more like people who live their lives through the internet stumble onto memes or some shill influencer telling them what to think and watch and that forms the basis of what they claim to be their fandom and instead of like 50 people joining a fan community every season it's like 5,000 and they all tend to be fair weather as fuck and have no idea what they are talking about other than the memes they've seen and mantras they've heard repeated so they all just have the same opinions and say the same damn things over and over all the time as a form of "identity".

Does this sound accurate?

Why do you ask a question and then answer it in the same post?

its just a generic shounen with a monster of the week but the animation is really good. I don't understand people that read the manga tho, is it just retards that just eat whatever shounenshit they find?

the villains are even worse, what's with the trend of giving a random dude a sob backstory? am i supposed to feel back for this dude that acts like a complete edgelord and has 15 minutes of screentime? I really don't get it

holy shit imagine being so far into the spectrum that you can't understand the narrative purpose of the sob flashbacks

I liked the Akaza and UM6 backstories.

I understand the point. it just doesn't make sense to give EVERY minor villain with barely any screentime a backstory. who the fuck cares, especially when they are all edgelords with 0 personality

This is pretty much what's wrong with anime getting more popular. You have to deal with waves of newfags constantly hyping up shit unoriginal shit because it's the first anime they've ever seen.

>I understand the point.
If you understood it then you wouldn't be complaining about it like a fucking mongoloid.

Because its a shonen, retard. Its LITERALLY for kids. Watch seinin. Not shonen

what seinen are there even this season

I mean it airs late at night and the main producer is Aniplex who always tries to target the weird Otaku/Fujo fuckers for BD sales purposes and they're using one of their favorite go to studios for targeting said weird Otaku/Fujo fuckers. Even Japan has said they feel kind of sorry for KnY's intended audience in younger boys who typically read Shonen Jump for possibly having to deal with rabid adult otaku trying to muscle in on content that was originally aimed at them but airs at midnight cause Aniplex timeslot so yeah it's kind of fucked up.

Like you look at the way the show looks with dark color palettes and Yuki Kajiura/Go Shiina music and like often ridiculously pensive and stretched out sequences for rudimentary Shonen Jump dialogue that ufoTABLE was infamous for with Fate (people walking in literal circles just talking in serious tones and the dialogue is almost all jargon, that sort of thing) and then the next scene a character goes into chibi mode like a skit in one of the Tales games they worked on and starts hopping around like you'd see in a sight gag in a typical Shonen Jump series and you remember what it is that you're really watching and the source for it and actual intended audience and it's kind of weird.

Not to say that you don't get young adults watching Dragon Ball or MHA or shit like that, but not quite like this in the form of "core otaku". Like to give another example of how weird it is, the studio that's producing animation for this Shonen Jump adaptation is going full bore into the edgiest looking anime game I think I've ever seen next month with the exact same composer, an A-List cast (many of which are even in this very same show) and all the characters look like fanservice waifu fujo bait or erstwhile edge lord types in a way that's more typical of ufoTABLE work, something that has actually been tempered by the source here so talk about whiplash as a lead-in project.

Attached: CodeVein-32.jpg (1101x611, 71K)

Vinland saga is one example. In any case, the reason why seinin dont get produced that much is lack of demand. Anime fans need to stop rewarding repetitive trash and shonen shit with their money

But the actual intended audience is still young teenagers, right?

>give EVERY minor villain with barely any screentime a backstory
Sure, like
>the temple demon
>the swamp demon
>the arrow demon
>the ball demon (unless you count playing with a ball is a backstory)
>spider dad
>spider brother
Literally the only demons with a proper backstory is Rui and to an extent the drum demon. Other than that we know the hand demon used to have a brother, and the female spiders were abused by Rui, which is part of Rui's story as well. That's pretty much it.

It's a cartoon for kids. Also Inosuke best boy and Zenitsu second best boy.

It basically goes with the territory for shounen anime/manga. Besides, it's a large part of what makes Kimetsu no Yaiba actually entertaining.

the c96 nezuko doujin was amazing

I don't want to sound like one of those guys that rants about normalfags and shit and you don't just sound like one of those shitposters either since you didn't phrase it like a shitposter, but it really does kind of seem to be a problem and like an Endless September sort of thing that is overwhelming the pre-existing fan culture to the sole benefit of some pretty shitty producers that seem in it just for the money and access to people's social media data so they can market the same shit to them over and over forever.

It's less of an issue that they come in like that all green and ignorant, but that they're opinion is supposed to apparently count as much as somebody that actually knows what they are talking about with a fandom they've been part of for years, and has seen the shit they think is cutting fucking edge many times before. Yet when you tell them how it's not really cutting edge at all and show examples and their response instead of acknowledging the clear reality or even taking an interest in what might have inspired something they like is to get fucking mad and victimized and then just follow stuff through to the next season of whatever the fuck waiting for an influencer (who's probably an ironic weeb youtuber with half fake opinions that still get taken seriously like Gigguk) to tell them what to watch you start to wonder what the point of interacting with the fanbase could possibly be anymore. Like they don't give a fucking shit about anime/manga/games or the community, it's all disposable really even as their proclaiming somethings greatness. They just want something to hype and pass the time with cause it's basically free to watch online now and makes for good pre-made meme fuel with how classic anime reaction faces tend to look...something that doesn't seem lost on producers in how they're planning out shows and scenes lately.

What I don't get is how every sob flashback scene now in anime is apparently equally emotionally devastatingly and effective in generating buzz. Even if it's the most hackneyed thing ever that becomes a disposable plot point an episode or two later as long as you play the sad insert song over it and it's some cute girl character having the breakdown people will go to the usual places and profess to weeping like a baby and that episode will then draw rave reviews. Either these fans are full of shit and just engaging in one upsmanship reactionary posting for attention or there's a lot of severally emotionally stunted and broken ass people in the anime community that are not at all equipped to face any of life's real challenges in any capacity and they're going to need to build a lot more psychiatric words for future generations.

Like seriously the sorts of scenes that in any other medium by just about any other fanbase would be lambasted for being hackneyed emotional pandering are a golden goose that's guaranteed to lay a golden egg ever time apparently when it comes to anime/manga/weeb games. People seem geared toward it too and every story apparently has to have at least one example at some point even if it's the most forced shit that doesn't matter in the long run. Then there's the whole "I can't wait for people to see this scene animated and tell each other how much they cried over it and how sad it made them and that's why x episode or show is 10/10" thing that comes in with your usual stock of over-hyped melodramatic late night anime too. Totally healthy and natural reactions not akin to the middle aged super opera watching audience of housewives that never finished school or had a career.

News flash for you, producers have only ever been in it for the money, anime has always been primarily not-especially-sophisticated entertainment for kids, and if no-one made new titles unless they were original and not ultimately very similar to titles that had gone before, we'd have fuck all to watch. Shounen action flavour of the month too unoriginal for you? Quit whining and watch something else.

youtu.be/FwrrSjaGNYo
youtube.com/watch?v=9fK23-cpMHY

Of course then there's people like Mari Okada who made a literal career out of writing this sort of stock scene for large production houses over and over and over year after year after year. She used to be equal parts criticized and praised but now I guess she's awesome entirely cause it's just that easy nowadays and she works with big producers like Sony, Toho and the AKB48 guy a lot and has big name voice actors and composers to accompany her melodrama scripts.

She's writing two movies in two months coming up and they both look like exactly the same teen melodrama thing and the trailer for one of them is literally just to play a greatest hits sequence of past shows she's worked on that were all the same thing almost as if to dare the fanbase to finally notice or care that she's made the same work like a dozen times now, but I bet somebody tries to give her an award and praises her for both no matter what happens depending on the intensity of the insert song and the cuteness of the girls that get attached to her melodrama sob story script. I mean fuck the people that run awards things for anime are all just the same people that produce the stuff anyway so why not.

Don't reply, OP is a fucking retard, it's fun to watch him think he's super smart or has a legitimate question

Because you don't watch this for some 2dee4u shit, you watch it because the fights are pretty fun and the slicing of heads is rewarding.

Don't tell me, tell the chuckle fuck fans that claim otherwise. It's not like I don't know, it's not like I can't stand the stuff at all, it'd just be nice if people would stop talking out of their ass and making way too big a fucking deal out of the same old shit for just one or two seasons and buy so completely into all the stuff hacky producers are pushing out as if they actually give a shit about them or what the content they are pushing as opposed to their money and data just because they're giving them waifus, and idols and flashy action sequences with big loud insert songs Hollywood style.

Let me put it this way, I don't need the fandoms to enjoy something, the last 5 years have made that plenty clear. Often times nowadays it's outright detrimental to that goal. Still sometimes on a day off I see what some of them are up too and saying about games or anime or shit and can't help but wonder and reminiscence about the days where I could just go online and shoot the shit about a show and not have it somehow turn into some shitposting histrionic fest of shilling/counter-shilling and/or fake outrage stuff that social media has wrought on countless communities. These apparently life or death waifu wars about which character somebody ought to jerk off the hardest too or not and all the discussion and focus goes into talking about the same old shit every season like waifus, insert songs, merchandise and like literally anything but the actual content and it's just sad too see.

Older Japanese fans that have been around since the 80's, 90's or even 2000's refer to it as "people making noise" and I tend to agree with that description. Like it is what it is, but it'd be nice to have more people just talk straight to each other without all the irony bullshit and poser opinions. Walk into that sort of thing, just once regardless of the season or year. That's all it is, hardly life or death, just would be nice.

Lmao

Shonen anime is for kids, seinen is for older teens/adults. Saying that all anime is for kids is retarded.

No, its because its a kids show. Fiction that has action as its main appeal can still have good character writing.

>it'd just be nice if people would stop talking out of their ass and making way too big a fucking deal out of the same old shit
And while we're at it with the unrealistic desires, I'd like a space station I could go and take holidays on. I could be here all day with what I wish the fandom as a whole could get into their skulls, but it's not worth the effort of the rant.

I know, I know. It's just that most is made with children or teenagers in mind, and seinen and josei anime hasn't always been a thing.

Nezuko is also the girl in casual BDSM inuendo that pulls male viewers by the millions

they are a comedy trio
also it's a battle shounen

All I've seen hyped is the awesome fight scenes

Villains should always have their backstory built up prior to their fight, not when they're about to die.

>why does a shonen have shitty characters guys ????

Wait a second... you mean the MC actually kills his enemies unlike other shonens ? Holy shit, that's excellent writing right there folks

>The anime fanbase as it is online circa 2019

the anime fanbase was never good and you know it

Thanks for the heads up.

because characters begin to grow from there.
The characters dont betray their basic characteristics.
Tanjiro asking for 2 servings when his sister cant eat to protect her secret.
plus he is the basic shounen hero. So he isnt going to have many flaws other than being extreamly niave.
Nezko is the authors self insert imo. None the less its their bond blah blah blah that you are supposed to feel for.
I keep reminding myself some of these series they rely on the drama of brother and sister than independant development between the two siblings.
Zenitsu: he is the comic relief but he is like ussop in that he is the first to run. this is somethinng to grow from and you can tell he has a lot of characters trying to get him to man up, so its not like growth isnt there.
Innosuke is the uncivilized learning to be civilized. Give him time and soon he will be the mad man we all want him to be.

Because its a kid's show. A shounen anime. Kids don't need over complicated characters. Do you ask why Satoshi wanted to win a League? No. Because Pokemon is a kid's show.

remember when one of Satoshi's rival decapitated a pokemon when it got space demon rabies?

Well that's not entirely unheard of, but it is rare enough to be remarkable.

And I still don't think they're starting from completely one-dimensional; there's more to each of them than you'd get from a cursory glance. Not much more initially, sure. But more effort has gone into them than "yeah, I'll make this one a coward, job done lol".

InuYasha did it too.

If this show had stronger character motivations, it would be amazing. Otherwise, it's just a fun diversion each week.

The puddles are deep, not wide user.

Way to move the goal post to "i-it's still generic writing"after its been disproven that Tanjiro is one dimensional niggerfaggot.

No retard, I'm pointing out the shonen protagonist tendancy to lose there resolve to finish the job their opponents when they learn the sob story.

Fair however Inuyasha was a lifetime ago and being merciful without stupidity is still very much a lost art in battleshonen.

Why did OP call the characters one dimensional, then list at least two dimensions for each character?
