It works for all the major music producers in Japan that basically run it's animation industry now, just Aniplex is the most obvious example since they've put the most into more or less conditioning their favorite target fanbases via social media to just respond to the latest casting of say Maaya Sakamoto or latest instance of Hiroyuki Sawano x LiSA or whatever soundtrack production with "Holy fucking shit greatest show ever, gotta buy it all and support my favorite creators" even though all the money gets pocketed by the production committee and these people see jack fucking shit and are just as soon onto the next project together a few months later to make another "hit". The fans make it super easy though since they seem to just want the same sorts of things with the same people over and over forever and ever for the better part of a decade now.

If you ask me Tencent seems to have an even greater lockdown on hit generating potential in China than Aniplex or the like does in Japan and for America Disney controls something like 40% of the box office all on it's own apparently and are on their way to basically being completely unchallenged by any other film production outfit. Really it's all the same any market you go to now. It's the biggest media companies with the largest amounts of capital and blanket social media advertising like Disney, Sony, Tencent etc. making the biggest killings on nerdom media by essentially doing the same things over and over the same way since at least 2008 while somehow someway almost nobody seems to notice or care and if they do they just make self-deprecating jokes about it for some reason. I guess just as long as they get their glossy visuals and big loud hype soundtracks with hot dudes and girls and everything is done super stylish and cool like in the webms being posted in this thread it doesn't matter how bog standard and samey it all is.

For a while it was make everything look as much like SHAFT as possible and even to some extent still is but it's slowly transitioning into make everything look as much like a ufoTABLE FMV for a Bandai Namco game as possible now as they become more established, have basically 2-3 timeslots all to themselves now and obsess less over cutting costs at every turn. It still makes all their produced shows look and sound kind of the goddamn same though and while technically high in production value and big name staff/cast people, still kind of hard to get excited about much anymore since you just know that there was a show almost exactly like the current one produced with a lot of the same people six months ago and that six months from now there will probably be another show that looks and sounds the same produced with more or less the same people again. This is before we even get into the scripts which typically have all the range of guy meets girls that either treats him like shit or is doomed to die or flashy action show that fills the time between sakuga action sequences with half baked shipping war fuel.

As for Mo Dao Zu Shi 2, just one look at it I already know why MAL would rank it their second most popular show currently airing after the Japanese one it kind of looks a lot like. I feel like the only thing probably keeping it from similar territory and hype levels is that whoever is doing the music probably isn't an established hit maker like Yuki Kajiura or LiSA nor are the voice actors as internationally well known. Apparently it doesn't fuck around with pushing the insert songs much like Kimetsu no Yaiba though, just nobody likely knows them outside of China and they probably just work for and are produced by Tencent. Like I said all these shows are produced and targeted in roughly the same manner, it's just a matter of which one has the more popular well known names or not that makes up the little differences in overall popularity.

Nor was how many insert songs by popular artists you can cram into action sequences to make them feel more like music videos.

I feel like the first real example of waifu/husbando fagging just taking a show to untold heights they weren't expected to reach was probably Evangelion. Like a lot of the hit shows nowadays feel like deliberate high budget and big production market focused reconstitution's of what Evangelion's fanbase made the most noise about in the mid to late 90's.

Man what do you want, Yea Forums is down to it's last legs in terms of active users with meaningful commentary to contribute and I suspect much of MAL, Reddit, Twitter and the like that looks like it's discussing anime are just bots programmed to bounce generic commentary about trendy anime off of one another and occasionally real users for the purposes of giving maximum exposure to the things that the producers want people to pay the most attention too. It's pretty obvious that the online anime community is actually substantially smaller than it appears to be.

Add Symphogear XV and King Records to proving that the model of music company lead producers for animation pushing character insert songs with carefully planned out sakuga action/transformation sequences centered around them (kind of my impression of episode 19 of KnY that had fanboys all over it's metaphorical dick for couple weeks now), cliffhangers every other episode and waifus all voiced by your favorite voice actors is the one true proven winning formula for generating a hit in the 2010's.

Like the confidence in betting on something like that by green-lighting it through five seasons almost right away was not at all misplaced even if it seemed like it back in 2012 or whenever the first season of Symphogear came out. God help me if it isn't the most cliched nonsensical wacky generic anime shit, but my god catchy insert songs and half naked girls voiced by the likes of Yuuki Aoi, Nana Mizuki, Inori Minase, Ai Kayano and Yoshino Nanjo etc. blowing shit up to barely coherent plot lines and occasional melodrama, that's instant "AOTS" potential for the anime fanbase right there.

I don't know I kind of just call bullshit on MAL these days and wonder how much of it's userbase and voting shit is even real people. They even admit to having increasing troubles with bots mass registering, upvoting and downvoting stuff. There's obvious numbers of fake accounts that will have people registering the same month or day to profess their profound love of whatever is currently hot and clearly receiving a big marketing push and like your average twitter bot have nothing in their profile to distinguish them as a real person. They either have just 1 post or an impossible 4 digit number of posts for one person to make in a single week or two. Like it's just too fucking obvious and while MAL clearly has real users that have been registered for years, it's kind of overwhelmed by the fake ones that'll have join dates like Mid 2018 onward and there's only so much the staff can do about it when they even give a fuck.

Same thing with Reddit, as bad as Yea Forums is with shitposting I'm starting to see it's points about R/Anime in particular which just seems like an echo chamber for people to end up pigeon holed into where every other post seems like an advertisement that gets mass upvoted by bots.
