I played the thing in english, then in other languages as practice. Everything about his past are flashbacks and inner monologues. The girls don't know anything about his past. And he never reveal anything.
And of course they have a positive attitude toward him. He is alpha and reliable, but respectful and gentle and always giving a hand when asked. He always try to get along with them. Plus is a pretty and fit guy.

Also he was influenced massively by Asako and it shows with the way he tries to emulate some of her mannerisms (like cockiness). She did save his life, after all, it's not like he's going to drop all that the moment he enters Mihama.

I mean he does act aggressive to that police guy at the very start and he only really acts like a recluse when he is in his little room - doing so outside in full view would make his interactions more awkward. Being aggressive or too reclusive in front of people he regularly interacts with could lead him to get alienated from his classmates - and from his scribbles in that little room, this is not an outcome he wants.
