Zexal was really lucky in its outsource studios for whatever reason and 5ds was in a time where finding passable level key animators was a lot easier.

Their smartest and most practical option with the animator manpower problem is to put more effort in all the other fundamental aspects that only really need a few people (although they each have to be legitimately talented and clever). Things like great color design, bg design, character and monster design, creative use of storyboarding, an inspiring ost on the level of 5ds - arcv, etc. Creativity in stuff like this is how Shaft deals with lack of raw animation manpower.

That's because they were remnants for the original plans for VRAINS before in got scrapped at the last minute, back when Yusaku was a shy kid that had a hard time standing out. Only reason why they exist is because at that point they already had cards they were contractually obligated to shill.

I kinda like the approach. The monsters are relatively simple and the main combo is relatively straightforward, but you can get more mileage out of them by adding support. Originally, Seahorse only got you Marbled Rock, but now it gets you Marbled Rock with 2000 more ATK and another recycle if it's removed. If they get another Link-1, whatever it does (searches a Marincess Trap, summons another monster so you can add Crystal Heart protection or go for Wonder Heart), that just gets added to the combo for free.
At the very least, it's nicer than the idea they had with Salamgreats, where you have to buy the monsters in installments.

Ishizu and Shadi are still minor characters. And he didn't utilize all the millennium items to great effect because of the card game taking precedence.

I think picking up the pace at Synchro would be a good start. Maybe have them be in the middle of a Fusion invasion or something, with the Tops bunkered away while leaving the Commons to just get trampled by Ancient Gears. So you can have the Lancers start in Tops, with Reiji working to convince them, and Yuzu and Yuto in Commons, trying to survive while being hunted by Yuri. So they get to have their own little character arcs (Yuya reconciling his idea of entertainment with the notion of ignoring suffering, Yuzu finally making a crude, strong stand against Yuri, Dennis actually betraying them) and finally meet up and let Yuya and Yuzu be on the same team for more than five minutes.

Larger viewership matters for shows that are externally funded by attracting various sponsors who want to put up ads. The yugioh anime is basically self franchise funded, all that matters is for konami to give them their cut with the card ads they run with the anime.

I don't think he used Ignis' code. Revolver hates all kind of AIs, after all, and he created Pandor just in a case of an emergency. I don't think he could have risked in using the very thing he hates the most.
Though I don't think it's relevant to talk about it now, considering how the Pandor subplot will probably end being irrelevant just like a lot of other things that never happened.

I didn't say he used the ignis code, just something like it, notably without the free will.

Not from the start, but likely by the end of Season 1. Early on they were telegraphing SOL to at some point become major antagonists. Then in season 2 they introduced Queen, but dropped the rest of the chess pieces.

That and stuff like the tone shift from Revolver vs Windy onwards.

5D's had teenagers/young adults as protagonists and that season was one of the best if not the best one.
