I just finished this.
I can say with confidence that this is the greatest anime ever made.

Overrated pseudo-deep slice-of-shit.

It's actually very good though.

Mediocre at best.

Been years but memory has it being slow, boring as shit.

you dont understand the intimate genius that is haibane renmei shutup

Which part was trying too hard to be deep? I don't remember anything pretentious. It's a mystery with a great atmosphere.

Some people just aren't cut out for slow-paced comfy melancholy I guess.

I am if it's done well.

What's an example of it done well, then? As far as I'm concerned, haibane renmei is at/near the peak of the genre.

I don't remember but I usually like things that are done well.

>greatest anime ever made
I agree, but it's a fucking stupid way to start a thread.

Have you considered the possibility that you (for whatever reason(s)) just don't like this kind of story, regardless of how well it is executed?

Rakka is love

Reki had a hard lives

Attached: 1509876623820.jpg (225x344, 11K)

A bit too much contrived withholding of information in order to drive the story by making Rakka suffer, but it handled the mysteriousness behind the existential questions it deals with exceptionally well and is a pretty engaging to watch thanks to a likeable cast. Even if the animation quality is pretty low tier a lot of the time and the characters don't look very good, it does have a few nice episodes visually, and the backgrounds can be pleasant to look at. All together it is quite flawed but still very good,

I tried rewatching it recently and couldn't finish the final episode. The only other anime I liked so much that I couldn't bear to finish a second time was The Tale of Princess Kaguya.

The speedwatching cucks finding it boring probably don't even get that it's a story about suicide.

What the hell am I listening to?

good luck proving that it's about anything at all given the amount of exposition it had

It's not about suicide any more than it's about angels. Suicide is never the issue.

I don't think it's THE best, since it has issues like awkward animation in places and the pacing is kind of weird towards the end, but it's definitely one of the best of the century so far and is indisputably Abe's best.

It's not necessarily suicide, just an afterlife for unfulfilled souls to heal themselves before moving on. I understand why a lot of people think of Rakka and Reki as suicide victims but some people, myself included, just don't see it that way. When I hear the sounds just before the well scene I picture a distressed Rakka running away from home during a heavy storm just before she slipped and fell to her death. It's all headcanon and your ideas are as good as mine because we'll never have an answer but that's why I love talking about Haibane Renmei. I have a lot of fun hearing people's different thoughts on scenes and putting them next to my own, like I'm assembling a little puzzle or something. I'm quite obsessed with this show though, maybe I'm the only one that feels this way.

Abe has a story of the season 2.

finished it a week ago and it was so good.
Rakka and Reki were really great characters.

fuck wrong thread lol sorry

There probably will never be a second season.

I don't think a second season will ever be made

A second season is very unlikely to be produced.

I'd be happy to see him make a few doujins but like the others I doubt an anime will happen.

fuck off

Wow what a cute thread!!

It doesn't make much sense for a character like Ku to have committed suicide. To me, all the Haibanes are like the western idea of ghosts: people clinging on to the world because they have something unfulfilled. They're emotionally unfulfilled and are getting a second chance to accept death without regret. I like how it's strongly hinted that they become those masked dudes if they can't succeed in their task of letting go of their regrets.

At least there is a great doujin about this.

>"I enjoyed drawing this for the series' Blu-ray release. In other words, I have become more subjective about the Haibane world than when I was working on it in 2002, although I still feel a special warmth while drawing. I still can't start writing a follow-up story of Yomi and Yami (twins) that begins with the departure of Nemu, but I know that I will complete it some day."

Kaguya had me bawling like a little bitch. Maybe I will watch this angel anime.

I don't think they all necessarily committed suicide, but with the theme of sin I think in Reki and Rakka's case it makes a lot of sense, with them feeling guilty about having done so. Wouldn't really work if they just died in accidents.

were the normal humans also dead people tho?

Attached: 1549225863271.jpg (780x440, 159K)

Good point. I think suicide makes sense for Reki while Rakka probably ran away from home in despair, recklessly endangering herself in the process and then died. That would jive with the crow who tries to keep her from falling.

Sora no Woto is Haibane Renmei done right.

This post is subjectively, objectively and mathematically correct.

Shoujo Shuumatsu Ryokou is Sora no Woto done right.

Texhnolyze is SSR done right.

Hidamari Sketch is SSR done right.

That's either ARIA or Non Non Biyori.

There's no theme of sin though. "Sin bound" is self-loathing. It doesn't make sense as sin because it's entirely about self-perception.

This.

One of*
is unique but has his little problems, still better than 99% of animes.

Question: if I die a kissless virgin, what kind of Haibane will I become? Asking for a friend.

Attached: 1565066240394.jpg (468x448, 97K)

Headcanon: Reki is Revy from Black Lagoon reincarnated.

One whose wings twitch when you orgasm.

The kind that won't get their day of flight until they have filthy kinky sex with another Haibane in the same situation. Good luck.

The children are in a different path actually and is mentioned in the show, Ku being just in the middle between being a kid and a teen and then being allowed to remember her dream means she was a “conscious” person when she died, pretty different for little kids that can’t be held responsible or are not able to understand guilt or responsibilities. So, I think is an afterlife for dead people who died in some shocking way, being suicide, murder or accident.

You fuck the sin outta them.

>people who died in some shocking way, being suicide, murder or accident
I think it's just a more general "died while still having 'unfinished business'/feeling unfulfilled/had regrets/etc". Reki and Rakka having similarly traumatic pasts feels more like a coincidence and just a particular aspect Abe wanted to address with their specific story rather than a "rule" of sorts.

The part when it pretends to give a fuck abou the world-building in the first half and then they leave it half-assed. I mean the drama is fine but the other shit was just there to make it look grander than it is.

hehe

Flexnit has it
