She stopped being best girl in second arc when we got Yoruichi though. And she has barely any good gags post-SS arc, she got pretty damn bland as the series started to take itself more seriously.

She just wasn't used properly. Orihime had OP powers that negated legitimately everything but she didnt get the time to shine and ended up as just the healer girl.

Bleach's lore was never good enough to be expanded because the moment you realize that SS as an afterlife only concerns the very specific area of japan you realize this story is written in a nationalistic vacuum.

1: That's not going to work effectively with a real-world setting.
2: It's going to fall apart completely the second you start introducing world-ending threats and character who are god-tierting.

Even MHA gets shit for AFO because he was such a powerful villain him taking over "just Japan" made absolutely no sense at all and nor did other countries not nuking the shit out of the city he lived in.

Maybe he was like Il Palazzo, and realized ruling the world, or even more than one country, might be strenuous, so better to narrow his efforts to just Japan lol

Kubo had some great ideas for an expanded Bleach universe which were continuously shot down by his retarded editors who wanted to keep the story focused on Ichigo and friends. And to be fair, Kubo had a propensity for just writing too many characters whenever he couldn't come up with something meaningful so I can see why the editor told him to ignore the minor details of the Bleachverse.

I like Orihime because she is not a typical character, she is a mix of silly, funny and deep and relatable moments and thoughts. She is one of my favorite characters but she is not my favorite female, that would be Rukia.
