The movie isn't even the same story outside of a soldier looping through the same time. Keiji is different, Rita is different, the mimics are different. The military and their tech is different. No Indian qt technician, and a tacked on happy ending.
You can like the movie but it's not really comparable to the source material and vise versa

the omega isnt that good of a concept but a dedicated generator beats the brains explanation
the added humour and MCs redemption arc were very nice and the supporting characters kilometres better
only thing I missed was a bit more armored and sleeker suits over grungy exoskellingtons
thank liman and cruise, being loose with the source was the bwat decision. Its not faithful, but a faithful one wouldve been bad.

I thought the entire point of Tom Cruise being a scummy promoter was really weak. And the general just shipping him off to the front instead of having him arrested for treason or whatever didn't work either. Plus how come a guy who is the face of military promotions isn't recognizable on a military base?

Both the book and the movie have pretty shallow supporting characters but I liked the seargant and Kiriha's bunk mate for what they were in the book. Movie had a bunch of cliches in Tom's squad and then tried to make me care about them when it was time for them to start dying.
